Chapter 21: Chapter 21: DNA Test Result
Edith was shocked to read the results of the genetic DNA test between her twins and her lover were different from her expectations. Her vision became increasingly blurry, her body felt swayed because the DNA test results showed that the genetic match between the twins and Callum was not a 99.99 percent match. Was the DNA test machine broken? It was impossible that Callum was not her husband because she could feel Callum’s warmth that always made her comfortable. If Callum wasn’t the father of her twins, then who was?
Now she’s unsure how to tell Callum. Should she be honest about the DNA test results being incompatible? What about their future children?
"Callum... what should I do now? Is it true that you’re not the father of my twins?"
Her footsteps slowly crept into a restaurant. She was genuinely nervous about meeting the man who had so successfully melted her heart. Her eyes grew teary as she stared at the handsome man before her, still smiling sweetly as he offered her some side dishes.
"Edith, what’s wrong with you?" Callum took the initiative to wipe his lover’s eyelids with his thumb.
Again, Edith didn’t dare be honest about this. However, she still wanted to get an honest answer directly from Callum rather than make her chest ache even more. "Callum, now I have a question for you. You have to be honest."
"Of course I’m telling the truth. What do you want to ask?"
"Is it true that Erdin is your son?"
"Of course Erdin is my son." Callum furrowed his brows. "That’s strange, is someone slandering you?"
"I just got the DNA test results. I see that the result shows that Erdin is my son too."
A beaming smile lit up his handsome face. "Really? Does this mean I can marry you?"
"But, you are not the father of my twins."
Suddenly, a powerful lightning bolt seemed to strike his entire body. He swallowed hard as he stared at his lover, who looked gloomy. Callum’s tone was especially harsh; he knew his lover’s temperament all too well, as whenever she faced major problems, her temper would be rather bad.
"Impossible, I’ve been taking care of Erdin since he was a baby!"
"DNA test results are never wrong. Since I still don’t remember anything, I just want you to be honest. What really happened back then?"
"I swear those twins are ours. I know how twins are made." Callum rubbed his palms together furiously. "Edith, please believe me! I swear Erdin and Eliana are ours."
Edith looked away, slamming her spoon on the table. "Actually, I felt something was off. When I woke up, I never saw you, and it was another man who was taking care of me all this time. If you really loved me, you should have been the one taking care of me for the past five years." She snickered, crossing her arms. "I never thought you could only say sweet things."
"Because there’s something I can’t tell you. I don’t really know what happened either." Callum lowered his head in resignation, his hands clenching on his thighs. "I still can’t believe I’m not the father of our twins. There must be something wrong with the DNA test results."
"Anyway, I don’t care anymore. I’m so disappointed now. I have to find Erdin’s real father."
Callum rolled his eyes. "I’m their biological father!"
Edith got up from her chair and grabbed her sling bag. "I think I’ve had enough of talking with you. There’s nothing more to discuss."
Callum also got up from the chair and wrapped his arms around his girlfriend’s stomach from behind. "Give me another chance! I’ll treat you better than before."
In her heart, Edith had the courage to openly confess that she truly loved Callum. Even though they had only known each other for less than a month, Callum was the one who had made her fall in love. Yet, her heart had always been stubborn and unyielding towards anyone. For some reason, her heart had accepted Callum so easily. Were the DNA test results truly wrong? Has someone manipulated the results? For now, she simply believed the direct evidence that showed Callum was not her husband.
Her heart felt like it was being torn apart by Callum’s hurt right now. Thinking about the many sweet moments they’d shared recently, she couldn’t bear to hurt him even more. Tears streamed down her cheeks.
"Callum, please let me go. I need time to think."
"I won’t let you go. I don’t want to lose you again!"
"Can you stop being so stubborn?! The more you overreact, the more I’ll hate you! I really don’t like men who don’t do what I want!"
"Then I won’t obey you. If I do, I’ll lose you again."
"But I’ll hate you even more. Wouldn’t you mind if our friendship was ruined because of your selfishness?"
"I don’t mind!"
Edith laughed awkwardly as she tried to break free from the hug that was making her breath even more labored. "But you look like you’re killing me right now. I didn’t expect you to be such a possessive man."
"I’m being possessive too so I don’t lose you again."
Finally, Edith managed to break free from the tight embrace that was making her chest ache even more. "From now on, Erdin has to live with me. I’m going to find his real father."
"I won’t let you take my son!"
"Go ahead and keep fighting me. I won’t just stand there!"
Edith still ignored Callum’s warning. She turned and walked quickly away from her lover. Just as she was standing near the restaurant entrance, her head suddenly felt like a bomb was about to explode. This time, the memories that came back weren’t just one fragment, but some fragments, leaving her body weak and her vision blurry.
Now she couldn’t support herself any longer. Her body collapsed to the floor, her eyes slowly closing. The last thing she saw before passing out was her lover’s pale face, and he continued to scream her name.
