Chapter 38: Something Special Only For Him
As usual, Arcane taught several classes in one day, especially for first and second grade high school students. Meanwhile, students in their final years or third grade were taught by other teachers who were considered more professional.
Everything went on as usual. Arcane came to school, greeted people who greeted him, and did his job, such as teaching or grading assignments.
But on that day, something was different. It wasn’t a problem given to him by Freya, but one of the teachers who had been wanting his attention lately.
"Did you make this for me?" Arcane asked Kyle, who had given him a box of food.
He looked at the lunch box in confusion, because it was unusual for someone to make something like that for him. He knew Julian had once tried to cook so he wouldn’t have to tire himself out making dinner, but it ended in disaster.
"Yes, I made this for you because you’ve helped me a lot. You might think your help is just a small thing. But your support means a lot to me. I’m very grateful for it!"
Arcane thought that the food given to him was just a token of gratitude. Although he didn’t really know what he had done, all he could remember was saying the normal things that people usually say to others.
At first, he was hesitant about it. Hesitant to accept the food, because the last time he received cookies from Freya, he threw them away.
But since he thought it was just innocent food, with no other intentions or anything bad that Kyle might have towards him, he accepted it.
"Thank you. I’ll return the box tomorrow." He accepted the lunch box and put it on his desk.
Kyle’s heart was filled with happiness, melting when Arcane smiled at him and accepted the lunch.
He knew he shouldn’t have these feelings for someone else, especially since they were both married. However, the feeling of happiness when he was near Arcane and every word the man said to him truly made Kyle happy.
"I know my food won’t be as good as Mr. Julian’s. But I hope you’ll like it," he said softly.
"It’s okay. The fact that you wanted to give this to me is enough."
He deliberately didn’t tell Kyle that Julian couldn’t actually cook. He didn’t want anyone else to know about his partner’s shortcomings and preferred to keep it to himself.
Because according to Arcane, marriage meant complementing each other. If Julian couldn’t cook, then she could do it. And complementing each other also meant not revealing the bad things about each other’s partners.
At lunchtime, Arcane opened the lunch box to see what Kyle had made for him. It turned out that he had cooked fried chicken garlic cut into small pieces, barbecue sauce, and fried sausages shaped like flowers.
"Wow, Arcane, did your husband make that for you?" asked one of his coworkers when he saw Arcane eating it in the school cafeteria.
"It looks delicious. Your husband is a good cook, huh?"
He immediately stopped them, saying that it wasn’t made by Julian but by Kyle.
"Mr. Bernard made it? It’s unusual for him to make lunch like this. I’ve never even seen him eat lunch himself, but he always buys it at the school cafeteria," said another teacher.
"I don’t know. He said it was just a thank you because I became his friend. So don’t spread false rumors." Arcane cut them off because he didn’t want any misunderstandings to arise.
From a distance, Kyle stood listening to their conversation. He couldn’t wait to see Arcane eat his meal.
"I hope he likes it."
Arcane picked up his fork to start eating his lunch. He admitted that it smelled good, and when he tasted it, it was as delicious as it looked.
"How does it taste?"
After eating only a few pieces of chicken, he immediately closed the box. This surprised everyone, including Kyle, who was watching from a distance.
There was a look of pain in his eyes, thinking that Arcane didn’t like his cooking. The man immediately stood up from his seat and left the cafeteria with the lunch box in his hand.
Kyle’s expression became gloomy. ’I wanted to impress you. But it seems like you don’t like what I did either.’
With a broken heart, he walked away from the cafeteria.
In the afternoon, when Arcane returned home, he put down the lunch box and called Julian.
"What’s up?" Julian asked, carrying the Nintendo Switch he was playing with.
His eyes immediately fell on a lunch box on the dining table. It contained chicken pieces with sausage and barbecue sauce.
"Where did you get it? Did you buy it?" Julian asked curiously, amazed by the food in the box.
Arcane nodded his head. "Yes. I bought it this afternoon and I think it’s really delicious. So I brought it home so you could try it too."
The young man was so happy and he tasted the food, which turned out to be very delicious. Arcane deliberately lied to him because he didn’t want Julian to feel jealous or sad when he found out that he got food from someone else.
Especially since Julian was traumatized the last time he almost ate the cookies Freya made for Arcane.
Seeing how Julian enjoyed the food, Arcane smiled. He also ate some of the food that was made for him.
He deliberately brought it home and didn’t finish it at school because he wanted to share the food he thought was delicious with someone he loved.
"This food is so delicious! Next time, buy a lot for me!"
Arcane raised an eyebrow. "My cooking is much tastier and healthier for you. I’ll make the same food you ate today next time."
"Hehe, okay." He went back to enjoying the food while waiting for the dinner his beloved husband would make.
While cooking, Arcane thought about returning the lunchbox with his food inside. He wouldn’t make it look special, just simple and easy to make.
’I have to return the favor. At least I’ll make a simple meal so it doesn’t look like I’m repaying his special treatment and he won’t think I have feelings for him.’
