Chapter 192: Chapter 192: It Was You Who Killed Him
Hearing Leia Quinn’s words, Hay Zephr’s face was full of sinister smiles.
"Since you want to know so badly, I’ll tell you, so you can die knowing the truth."
Hay Zephr paused, hatred filling his eyes as he stared at Leia Quinn.
"Do you know, two years ago, when you went to Pendleton University as a psychological counselor, it was because of one sentence of yours that caused the death of a boy who had a promising future!"
Leia Quinn looked shocked at these words.
Two years ago, she was indeed recommended by her mentor to work as a psychological counselor at Pendleton University for a period of time.
But when had she ever caused someone’s death?
"Hay Zephr, make it clear, who did I kill?"
"Killed who? You killed my younger brother, Cameron Hayes!"
Hay Zephr’s eyes were full of crimson as he shouted angrily.
Cameron Hayes?
Leia Quinn struggled to recall, and finally, she remembered.
She had indeed counseled a college student named Cameron Hayes.
The boy was handsome but suffered from severe depression.
During her counseling, she had gently suggested that he go to a legitimate hospital’s psychological clinic for some diagnosis.
Did he die?
What did it have to do with her?
No wonder Hay Zephr felt familiar to her.
Hay Zephr and Cameron Hayes were brothers, and they had some resemblance.
Two years ago, Hay Zephr came to see Cameron Hayes.
She had seen him.
"Cameron Hayes died? I didn’t kill him, how did I kill him?"
Leia Quinn held his increasingly tightening hand, asking with difficulty.
"Still saying you didn’t kill him?"
Hay Zephr’s hand became more forceful, "Just because of your one sentence saying he was ill, my brother was rejected from a free overseas study program by the school. Afterward, he couldn’t bear the strange looks from others and chose to slit his wrists and commit suicide!"
The man’s eyes were full of crazed anger and pain, Leia Quinn’s pupils shrank, shocked and confused.
Was it because of her?
Was it due to her honesty that caused Cameron Hayes’s death?
But she had never told anyone about Cameron Hayes’s depression, how did others find out about it?
"Leia Quinn, do you think you deserve to die?"
Hay Zephr glared at Leia Quinn, "Did you know that my brother was smart from a young age, a prodigy in our village, and the pride and hope of our family. Our entire family saved and scrimped to send him to college, hoping he’d bring glory to us, but because of your careless words, it cost him his life!"
Hay Zephr’s hands tightened again, "Leia Quinn, I’ve been looking for you; I didn’t expect you were capable enough to flee overseas! Someone finally told me you were here two days ago, you incompetent quack, I will definitely kill you today!"
A suffocating feeling tightened around her neck, Leia Quinn struggled desperately, opening her mouth wide.
The man’s face was ferocious, clearly trying to choke her to death.
Leia Quinn’s breathing halted, and she nearly couldn’t breathe.
She clawed at Hay Zephr’s hand, speaking with difficulty, "Hay Zephr, it’s not me who killed your brother, but you all!"
She couldn’t just sit and wait; she had to save herself!
Hay Zephr froze, his grip loosening slightly, "Leia Quinn, you’re still lying on the verge of death!"
"I’m not lying! Your brother had severe depression; he told me he was under a lot of pressure, afraid of disappointing your expectations, and scared one day he wouldn’t do well and see your disappointed expressions."
Leia Quinn tried to put her words together, "In your eyes, being a prodigy is glorious, but you have no idea how much pressure the person with your expectations bears. He told me he lived very tiringly from childhood, he didn’t want the prodigy title, nor did he want to study abroad; he just wanted a quiet life with his family. Do you know this?"
Cameron Hayes didn’t tell her much.
But she understood a bit from her memories and Hay Zephr’s words.
Cameron Hayes’s suicide was still due to depression.
And the reason he developed severe depression was because he couldn’t bear the pressure from outside.
This pressure wasn’t built in a day or two.
It accumulated over years.
Hay Zephr might not even know, but the root cause might be their family.
Their family’s expectations of Cameron Hayes were too high!
Leia Quinn’s words left Hay Zephr in a daze.
"Aiden said that to you? Did he really say that?"
The man murmured, his grip gradually relaxing.
Seeing the opportunity, Leia Quinn forcefully pushed Hay Zephr away, quickly got up from the ground, and ran forward desperately.
She shouted while running, "Help! Somebody, help!"
Her voice was hoarse, unable to yell properly due to being strangled.
Her face was anxious; when she looked back, she saw Hay Zephr already catching up.
"You filthy woman, dare to run! There’s no way Aiden died because of us, he clearly died because of you!"
Hay Zephr took long strides, grabbing Leia Quinn’s hair, then dragging her back into the corner once more.
"Help, ugh..."
Leia Quinn closed her eyes briefly, feeling hopeless.
What should she do?
Was she really going to die here today?
Who would save her!
"Let her go!"
A man’s angry roar suddenly came to her ears.
Leia Quinn opened her eyes suddenly, surprise flashing in her eyes when she saw who arrived.
It was Craig Landers!
He had found her!
A sudden relief filled her heart, tears of excitement welled in her eyes.
No moment felt more filled with anticipation for his arrival than now.
Grateful that this thick-skinned man hadn’t backed down because of her repeated coldness.
Craig Landers wore a stoic expression, his gaze sweeping over Leia Quinn, spotting tears in her eyes and a hint of tenderness appeared on his face.
He quickly restrained his emotions and looked at Hay Zephr.
"Are you a man? Why hold a woman captive? If you have guts, let her go and fight me one-on-one."
He didn’t know what had happened.
He had just parked his car when he vaguely heard Leia Quinn’s cries for help.
He thought he was hallucinating but fortunately followed the source of the sound to take a look.
He didn’t expect to actually see Leia Quinn held hostage!
"Get lost, this woman killed my brother, I have to kill her!"
Hay Zephr grabbed Leia Quinn’s neck, a wary look directed at Craig Landers, retreating constantly.
Leia Quinn’s mouth and nose regained freedom, hearing his words, she deliberately provoked him, "Hay Zephr, you’ve got the wrong target for revenge. It’s not only you who caused his death, but others too. I never leaked your brother’s condition to anyone. I just want to know how others knew he was sick and who mocked him?"
Her words left Hay Zephr slightly stunned, as if pondering Leia Quinn’s words.
Leia Quinn held her breath and looked at Craig Landers.
Craig Landers got the signal, seizing the moment of Hay Zephr’s hesitation, he swiftly rushed over and kicked him away, simultaneously pulling Leia Quinn into his arms.
