Chapter 285: Chapter 285: Appearing to Be a Loyal Servant
Elara Don felt like there was a cat’s claw scratching at her heart, making her itch unbearably.
She pouted, "Alright, I’ll wait for your good news."
"Okay."
"By the way, Tom, have you been in touch with Craig Landers? I can’t get through to him. I wonder if he’s found Kiki yet."
Elara was constantly worried about Leia Quinn.
She couldn’t get through to her, nor did she know if Craig Landers had found her.
"I’ll go find him and ask later."
Damon’s thoughts drifted to Craig Landers, and the faint smile on his face waned.
"Yes, be sure to notify me as soon as there’s news about Kiki."
"Alright."
The two chatted casually for a bit more before Elara hung up the phone.
Looking at the empty house, she smiled slightly and started texting Helen.
Helen hadn’t returned. Could she still be with Arthur?
"Helen, are you planning to stay out all night again?"
Soon, Helen replied with a message.
It was a few hotel pictures and the silhouette of Arthur going into the bathroom, wrapped in a towel.
It was clear what had just happened between them.
Elara chuckled softly.
"Helen, you’ve got quite the charm to hold Arthur tightly."
She remembered how much Arthur had disliked Helen at first, but she didn’t expect them to have slept together repeatedly.
"Charlotte, men often say one thing but mean another. They say they despise you, yet deep down they want you. Ugh, I’m tired, taking a break to sleep now."
Helen sent another message.
Elara chuckled softly and sent a few goodnight emojis.
At the very least, Arthur keeping secrets was a good thing.
Of course, she hoped more that Arthur would see Helen’s good qualities, and they could make a beautiful story together.
That way, the guilt she felt for Helen would lessen.
Meanwhile, Damon Hawke was patiently waiting for Rhun Quinn’s update.
Soon, Rhun sent him a few photos.
When he saw the photos full of Julian Miles and James Lee together, including some explicit ones, a gleam flashed in his eyes.
It’s just as he suspected.
These two were indeed in a relationship!
He never anticipated that James Lee would set his sights on Gabriel Miles’ son!
With an age gap, James Lee practically watched Julian Miles grow up.
It was grooming!
Did Gabriel know about this?
Was he aware of his son’s orientation issues?
It was so surprising.
"Have all traces been erased?"
Damon tried to suppress his inner shock and instructed Rhun with a few words.
"Don’t worry. The person Chase found is reliable."
"Okay."
Damon put away his phone and glanced at Julian Miles in the distance.
At that moment, James Lee was by his side, mingling with some male friends.
James Lee seemed like a loyal servant, but who would’ve thought...
"Tom, what are you looking at?"
Samantha Miles approached Damon Hawke, wrapping her arm around his.
Damon’s eyes flickered slightly as he pulled her hand down.
"Samantha, it’s getting late. I should head back. Charlie and Bea are waiting for me, and they’ve set a curfew."
If he could uncover the truth about Lina Quinn’s death from James Lee, he wouldn’t have to keep feigning affection with Samantha.
"Leaving already?"
Samantha watched Damon leave, wanting to stop him but ultimately remained silent.
That damned little brat even set a curfew!
When she entered the Hawke Family household, she definitely wanted to get rid of those pesky children!
Damon got into his car, thought for a moment, and called Craig Landers.
The call went unanswered, and Damon narrowed his eyes, instructing the driver to take him to Houghton Place.
If Leia Quinn had encountered such a big event and Craig Landers wasn’t home, he must be at Houghton Place.
In the suite, Craig Landers lounged lazily on the couch, drinking cup after cup of wine.
The collar of his shirt hung open, revealing his strong chest.
Few crystalline droplets of wine fell onto it, shimmering under the light.
Dejected yet alluring.
When Damon entered, he saw Craig fully lost in his drunken stupor.
He frowned and turned up the lights.
"Wayne."
Craig opened his blurry eyes, struggling to recognize Damon.
"Damon, why are you here? Weren’t you supposed to be at home with your son? You heartless person."
Tongue-tied and still drinking.
Damon reached to take away his glass, "Enough. If you keep drinking, you’ll pass out."
Craig hiccupped, trying to snatch the wine bottle from Damon, but caught in the throes of intoxication, he was easily subdued.
"Wayne, I’ve already heard about you and Leia from Elly. What’s the news? Has Leia not returned home yet?"
At Damon’s question, Craig’s thoughts seemed to hit him, and his eyes turned red.
He slowly leaned back on the sofa, resting his hand over his eyes to hide the tears from Damon.
Seeing him like this, Damon furrowed his brow slightly.
It had been so long since he’d seen his friend in such a desolate state.
The last time was when he broke up with Selena Taylor.
"Damon, Cindy’s car went into the sea, and now her life is uncertain."
Craig spoke laboriously.
The sea area was vast, and everyone Craig sent out in search of Leia Quinn ed back that they hadn’t found her trace.
She disappeared!
Or perhaps she was no longer in the world!
The thought of it tore at his heart like a knife.
"What did you say? Leia’s life is uncertain? How did this happen?"
"I don’t know! She should have been following the route to the Landers’ old mansion. My mom called her back to discuss the divorce. After signing the agreement, on her way back..."
Craig slowly sat up, hammering his own head in frustration.
"It’s all my fault! I shouldn’t have left when she needed me. The last call she made, I didn’t even answer! I’m such a bastard!"
He truly was a jerk!
If Leia wasn’t found, he’d never forgive himself!
Listening to Craig’s words of self-blame, Damon patted his hand, "Alright, what’s done is done. You can’t continue to wallow in despair; you have to find a way to search for her and uncover the truth behind her fall into the sea."
Craig was a man of deep emotion and integrity, and Damon feared if he didn’t give him something to pursue, he’d revert to being the despondent man from years before.
Upon hearing that, Craig lifted his head abruptly.
"You’re right, Cindy abruptly encountered several incidents. On reflection, it must be someone setting her up. Who’s pulling strings behind the scenes? Was her fall into the sea really just a traffic accident? No, I must investigate the truth now!"
Saying that, Craig staggered up, ready to leave.
Damon quickly pulled him back.
"Wayne, you’re in this drunken state right now. Can you really think clearly and uncover the truth? Listen to me, go back and rest well tonight. Let’s investigate tomorrow, alright?"
It appeared his words spurred him into action.
He would pull through.
Craig gasped for air, slumping back onto the couch.
"Go home? Alone and lonely, is that really a home? Damon, I don’t want to go. I’m hurting."
Craig hit his chest, teardrops glistening at the corner of his eyes.
Damon sighed, "Then spend the night here."
This was his regular suite, not much different from home.
"Stay here with me."
Craig murmured.
Damon: "..."
First the conversation, now staying together.
Alright!
What could he do, they were friends.
"Let me inform my two sons."
"Damon, we’re both hard done by. My wife is missing, your girlfriend broke up with you."
Damon: "..."
The breakup was fake!
But better not to tell him!
Or it might upset him even more!
