Chapter 286: Chapter 286: Making You Use the Pretty Boy Trap
High-end restaurant.
Serena Wells looked at Benjamin Harper sitting opposite her, feeling overwhelmed.
She never expected Benjamin Harper to invite her for dinner.
She was having dinner with her idol!
"When you went back, they didn’t give you a hard time, did they?"
Benjamin Harper picked up some food for Serena Wells and asked casually.
"No."
Serena Wells quickly shook her head.
Linda not only didn’t make things difficult for her but treated her as an honored guest.
After all, she was handpicked by Benjamin Harper as a backup dancer.
"That’s good."
Benjamin Harper smiled slightly, "Eat, don’t be shy."
"Okay."
Serena Wells nodded and ate silently, momentarily speechless.
Benjamin Harper ate for a while, then wiped his mouth, "Annie, it’s fate that we met here. What do your parents do?"
Hearing this, Serena Wells was taken aback, bit her lip and said, "My parents have been divorced for a long time. My mom is an ordinary worker at a chemical factory, and my dad he..."
Benjamin Harper looked at her, waiting for her to continue.
Serena Wells lowered her eyes slightly and said, "My dad was in prison and passed away recently. My mom doesn’t let me meddle in his affairs, but actually, my dad has always been good to me."
She seemed quite honest.
Benjamin Harper’s eyes flickered slightly, and he reached out to pat her hand in silent comfort.
Serena Wells glanced at him with a trace of doubt in her eyes, "Brother Evan, why did you suddenly ask about my parents?"
He is a big star, suddenly inviting her for dinner; she didn’t think he had fallen for her at first sight.
Now asking about her parents is even more peculiar.
Benjamin Harper’s eyes flickered slightly, "Nothing, just asking casually. I said we are fated, actually because you look a bit like a friend I know, so I just inquired casually."
He had to find a reason to gloss it over, or else it would arouse her suspicion.
Serena Wells nodded knowingly, tilted her head, and joked, "Brother Evan, the person you know isn’t my long-lost twin sister, is she?"
Benjamin Harper chuckled, "Maybe! Should I get a genetic test for you two?"
"Should I pull a few of your hairs for it?"
"If you’re not afraid of pain, it’s not impossible."
"..."
The two of them joked around for a bit, and the atmosphere warmed up.
Benjamin Harper picked up some food for Serena Wells, signaling her to continue eating.
Serena Wells thanked him, glanced at Benjamin Harper, "Brother Evan, my dad did time, do you look down upon me?"
"No. Your dad is your dad, and you are you; I’m not that snobbish." Benjamin Harper curved his lips slightly.
He was good-looking, and his words were amiable, quite endearing.
Admiration flashed in Serena Wells’s eyes, "Brother Evan, you’re really nice. I’ve never seen a big star like you with no airs."
Benjamin Harper paused his eating for a moment, lowered his eyes slightly to hide the guilt in them.
"I’m not as good as you say; maybe it’s because I come from humble beginnings, so I don’t like to rank people."
He was approaching her with a purpose.
Of course, he wouldn’t really hurt her.
Just collecting some useful information.
"Brother Evan, no matter what, I will be your fan for life."
Serena Wells was full of determination.
Seeing Benjamin Harper smile, she blinked and tentatively asked, "Brother Evan, can I take a picture with you?"
Benjamin Harper hesitated for a moment, then nodded, "Sure."
"Then I’m coming over."
Serena Wells’ eyes lit up and moved to sit beside Benjamin Harper.
Benjamin Harper posed for the camera, thinking about when he and Elara Don had also taken photos together as a keepsake.
Thinking of Elara Don, he curved his lips, "Annie, send me the photo we just took."
He had to to Elara Don.
Let her know he was approaching Serena Wells.
"Okay."
Serena Wells sent what she thought was the best photo to Benjamin Harper.
Benjamin Harper took a glance and quickly forwarded it to Elara Don.
At this time, Elara Don was having lunch in the company cafeteria.
When she saw the photo sent by Benjamin Harper, her eyes widened.
"Evan, you really went to find Serena Wells?"
"Yeah, I invited her for dinner. I was thinking of calling you too, but I thought it might be easier for her to warm up to me if it’s just the two of us."
Benjamin Harper quickly replied.
"Evan, I’m so embarrassed for making you use your charms."
Elara Don stuck out her tongue and typed a line.
"If you’re embarrassed, just treat me to a few more meals later."
Benjamin Harper replied with a smile in his tone.
"That’s a must."
"Then it’s settled."
"Okay."
Benjamin Harper looked at the cold text on his phone, yet he could vividly imagine the scene.
The woman typing with a charming smile, so lovely and endearing.
"Brother Evan, who are you chatting with? Your girlfriend?"
Serena Wells asked tentatively, seeing the smile in Benjamin Harper’s eyes.
"No, just a good friend."
Benjamin Harper put away his phone, lowered his eyes slightly to hide the emotions in them.
"Must be a really good friend, right? You’re smiling so happily."
Serena Wells tilted her head and said.
Benjamin Harper acknowledged with a sound and changed the topic.
"Annie, tell me about yourself."
"Okay."
"..."
Sea City.
Houghton Club.
James Lee looked at Damon Hawke and nodded slightly.
"Mr. Hawke, I am here."
Strangely enough, Damon Hawke had invited him for tea here.
His level shouldn’t merit Damon Hawke inviting him for tea, right?
It vaguely felt like a banquet with hidden threats.
"Manager Lawson, have a seat."
Damon Hawke motioned for James Lee to sit down.
James Lee glanced at him and sat opposite him.
"Have some tea."
Damon Hawke passed over a cup of freshly brewed tea.
"Thank you."
James Lee didn’t drink it but looked towards Damon Hawke, "Mr. Hawke, you probably didn’t call me here just for tea, right? Why don’t you get to the point?"
Hearing this, Damon Hawke drank some tea and raised his eyebrows slightly.
"Manager Lawson is straightforward, so I’ll be direct. You know Lina Quinn, right? I want to know why you instructed Jack Clarke to run her over."
Hearing this, James Lee’s expression changed slightly.
"Mr. Hawke, I don’t know what you’re talking about."
How did he know that he instructed Jack Clarke to run over Lina Quinn?
Has he been investigating this all along?
"James Lee, stop pretending. Jack Clarke’s last call was with you. There’s also a sum of overseas income in his account, transferred from your offshore account. Tell me, why did you wire him the money?"
Damon Hawke asked calmly.
James Lee kept his composure, "Mr. Hawke, this is my private matter; you can’t just infer things from it, can you?"
Damon Hawke looked at James Lee, seeing he wouldn’t admit it, and his lips curved slightly.
"Your private matter, huh? The kind that can’t see the light of day? James Lee, I didn’t expect you to have quite a few secrets."
The man’s expression was meaningful, and James Lee felt his heart tighten, staring fixedly at Damon Hawke.
"Mr. Hawke, what do you mean?"
Why did he have the feeling that Damon Hawke had discovered something?
