Chapter 48: Chapter 48: Don’t Go Home Tonight
Damon Hawke looked at the woman blocking the car, his expression cold and stern.
After getting out of the car, he slammed the door shut.
The man’s tall silhouette was elongated under the streetlight’s illumination.
His chilling aura merged with the night, exuding a bone-chilling coldness.
Though the air wasn’t cold, it inexplicably felt freezing.
Victoria Don shivered inexplicably but quickly adjusted her emotions.
"Damon, you’re back! I came to bring Charlie some toys, but he wouldn’t let me in."
She feigned an innocent act, shaking the toy in her hand with a face full of grievance.
Damon Hawke’s sharp gaze fixed on her, watching her feebly lean over, he barked commandingly, "Butler, arrest her for me!"
His voice was icy, starkly glaring in the night.
Victoria Don’s heart skipped as she looked at the man akin to a king, exclaiming, "Damon, what are you doing?"
Why arrest her!
Could he possibly know something?
"Victoria Don, what did you do tonight? Need me to spell it out?"
Damon Hawke looked at her being restrained, his dark eyes filled with frost.
"I... What did I do? Damon, I know I was wrong before, I shouldn’t have scolded and hit Charlie, that’s why I bought toys specifically to make it up to him. I promise, I won’t do it again!"
Victoria Don’s face turned pale, but she pretended to be calm.
Wasn’t she reminding him she was Charlie’s biological mother!
"Victoria Don, you really won’t shed a tear until you see the coffin!"
Damon Hawke stared at Victoria Don, "Was it you who pushed Elara Don into the sea? How can you be so vicious? I really doubt if you’re truly my child’s biological mother! Butler, take her to the police station!"
He’s sending her to the police station!
Victoria Don panicked.
She struggled hard, "Let go of me, let go! Damon, you can’t do this! What evidence do you have to say I pushed Elara Don into the sea? It’s Elara framing me!"
How did he know!
Could it be Elara isn’t dead?
Did Damon save her just in time?
What should she do now?
Victoria Don was restless as she saw Damon Hawke heading into the estate; she shouted hurriedly, "Damon, your company is currently in negotiation with Northwood Group. If the media exposes that you sent your fiancée to prison for no reason because of a woman, would it be good? I heard the chairman of Northwood Group values the character of those in power the most. If he finds out you discard the old for the new, your image in his eyes will greatly diminish!"
This was information her mother had found out.
That’s why she dared to come with toys to coax Dominic Hawke after being thrown out of the estate by Damon Hawke.
Because she was convinced Damon Hawke wouldn’t sacrifice the greater for the lesser.
Hearing Victoria Don’s ranting, Damon Hawke paused, then slowly turned around.
His handsome face appeared even more resolute and cold under the night sky, enveloped in frost.
"Are you threatening me?"
"I’m not! Damon, sob, I really didn’t push Elara Don into the sea, you can’t just listen to her one-sided words!"
Victoria Don tactically played weak, sobbing out loud.
Damon Hawke’s cold glance swept over her; he found the woman before him so unfamiliar that it disgusted him to the core.
He stared at her fixedly, nodded after a while, "Very well, since you’re here to atone, then don’t leave tonight. Butler, take her into the estate."
With Damon Hawke’s order, the butler hurriedly instructed the servants restraining Victoria Don to take her back.
Victoria Don’s heart eased, overjoyed.
"Hurry up and let me go! Damon, I knew you would trust me. After all, I am Charlie’s biological mother."
He said not to leave tonight!
Does that mean she might turn misfortune into a blessing, taking the chance to move into the estate and become its mistress?
Victoria Don was secretly rejoicing when she heard the man’s voice again by her ear.
"Butler, the basement hasn’t been used in years; go, take Miss Thorne in and treat her well tonight."
Charlie’s biological mother?
Did she think bringing up the son would spare her punishment!
Damon Hawke’s lips curled into a cold arc, giving a stern order.
The butler was taken aback, then readily complied.
The young master’s identity wasn’t ordinary; long ago, a basement was set up within the estate for him.
It’s seldom used because it serves to punish the disobedient or those who betrayed the young master.
This Victoria Don, relying on being the young master’s biological mother, was arrogant in secret to no end.
As servants, they dared not meddle in the master’s affairs, so the young master was unaware of Victoria Don’s true colors.
It seems today the young master has seen through Victoria Don’s true nature!
How satisfying!
"The basement? Damon, why take me to the basement? Let go, let go of me!"
Victoria Don’s brief smugness was shattered by Damon Hawke’s words.
She struggled desperately, shouting, but the servants kept her firmly restrained, dragging her towards the depths of the villa.
Damon Hawke stood tall, listening to Victoria Don’s cries, he unbuttoned his collar, a flicker of disgust passing across his brow.
What a cunning woman!
How did he end up sleeping with such a woman in the first place?
It must be a mistake!
Just then, his phone rang in his pocket.
Damon Hawke furrowed his brows, taking out his phone.
It was a call from Rhun Quinn.
Upon answering, Rhun’s came through the line.
"Mr. Hawke, I have re-investigated the events from four years ago as you requested. I’ve already found results."
So soon!
Damon Hawke felt a slight lift in spirit, "Speak."
He suspected that Victoria Don wasn’t the biological mother of his son, thus he had Rhun Quinn reinvestigate what happened four years ago to find out who entered his room exactly.
Was it Victoria Don or Elara Don?
"Mr. Hawke, due to the time lapse, coupled with the fact that the surveillance system at Houghton Hotel malfunctioned that night four years ago, I couldn’t obtain the surveillance footage from that night. However, I interviewed several friends who attended the party at the hotel with the Don sisters four years ago. They confirmed that Miss Elara Don drank a bit too much that night and left halfway, later heard to have entered room 3809, spending the night with someone, caught by Evan Miles the next day."
Rhun Quinn’s voice came through the receiver, deepening Damon Hawke’s frown.
"Are you sure they said Elara Don entered room 3809 and not 3806?"
"I’m sure."
Rhun affirmed, and a trace of disappointment flashed through Damon Hawke’s eyes.
Was it all just his imagination?
The person he spent the night with four years ago was indeed Victoria Don?
"Understood, anything else?"
"Mr. Hawke, I just received news that the chairman of Northwood Group, who intended to sign a contract with us, seems to be hesitating on whether to choose us as the international partner. It’s because he heard there’s a problem with your private life."
Rhun hesitantly conveyed this information to Damon Hawke.
Damon Hawke’s already severe face turned gloomier.
He closed his eyes, swallowing internal frustration, "Understood."
He knew Rhun was reminding him to manage his relationship with Elara Don well.
And he, too, rarely felt a sense of daze.
Turns out it was all his wishful thinking!
