Everyone Wants Me Dead: The Villain Lord's Survival Diary-Chapter 34 – I, Eaglehold, have lived my life with integrity
"The Source of the Wilds? What is that?" Sylvie asked the system in confusion, feeling a colorful orb within him, brimming with primal and wild energy.
"Ding! The Source of the Wilds is a unique world relic, the fountainhead of the Breath of the Wilds, containing various types of wild energy."
Listening to the system was like listening to nonsense. Sylvie was speechless; it felt like the system was saying a lot without saying anything at all.
Forget it, no point in arguing with a dumb system.
Sylvie patiently continued, "So, what exactly is the Breath of the Wilds?"
"Ding! The relic, Breath of the Wilds, represents the rules of natural power. Pure natural beings can perceive and awaken the power in their bloodline based on their innate talents."
"Can I perceive power from it? I think I'm quite pure."
Sylvie put on a serious and earnest expression.
"Ding! No!"

"So what's the use of this thing for me? Am I just a human-shaped WiFi spreading the Breath of the Wilds?"
Sylvie complained, feeling utterly frustrated. He had drawn a reward with a critical hit, only to find it useless.
"System, what are considered pure natural beings?"
"Ding! It's hard to describe, but for example, the horse under you is one."
Sylvie looked down at his trusty Dragonblood Steed, noticing that it was tilting its head to look at him, its big eyes filled with a hint of joy and infatuation.

"!?"
"There's something wrong with my horse!"
He did like beast-eared girls, but a horse was out of the question, especially since it was a stallion.
Ugh, even a mare wouldn't do.
"It seems the Source of the Wilds is causing this. According to the system, I've become a catalyst for the evolution of natural beings, which is why my horse is more affectionate towards me, showing such expressions."
"And the range of the Source of the Wilds' influence must be limited, as no other horses around are reacting. That's a relief; I wouldn't want to be covered in birds all the time."
Sylvie pondered how to better utilize the Source of the Wilds to benefit his territory.
Start a super farm? Raise chickens as big as cows, fish that can leave water, or pigs that give birth to twenty piglets at once?
He's a lord, not a farmer, but thinking bigger, perhaps he could use the Source of the Wilds to breed and tame magical beasts, or cultivate stronger warhorses.
But it was clearly not that simple.
The system mentioned that whether a natural being could perceive the power of the Breath of the Wilds depended on their talent.
Some beings might awaken slowly upon first contact, while others might never grasp it, merely instinctively drawn to the Breath of the Wilds.
Like his Dragonblood Steed, which showed no special reaction other than a slightly ambiguous look in its eyes.
Sylvie couldn't figure it out for now; he'd have to wait until he returned to Eaglehold to experiment personally.
Since they didn't rush on the way back, Sylvie and his troops only arrived at Morninglight Town the next morning.
He planned to stay in Morninglight Town for a while, partly to let his soldiers recover and partly to transfer the town's ownership to the Saintess.
The players were adamant about this, insisting on a contract, even though Sylvie could break it at any time.
But Sylvie soon realized that the players and demi-humans weren't as foolish as he thought.
...
In the Mayor's Estate of Morninglight Town, player representatives stood solemnly on either side of the room.
In the middle of the meeting hall was a square table, with Sylvie and the Demi-human Saintess Roye sitting opposite each other.
Roye still wore her patched but very clean priestess dress, her fox ears and tail, and her long, snow-white hair falling smoothly behind her, making her look beautiful and holy.
But her eyes seemed a bit dazed.
Sylvie couldn't help but glance at the charming fox-eared girl, wondering if he should sponsor her a new priestess dress.
"Lord of Eaglehold, if you have no objections, let's draft the contract for transferring Morninglight Town."
Avatar solemnly placed a parchment in front of Sylvie.
Sylvie looked at the parchment in surprise, noticing it was blessed by the God of Order.
Goodness, where did these players get this? Did Eaglehold have a temple for that old lady, the Goddess of Order?
But Sylvie said nothing, taking out a quill and swiftly drafting the contract, signing his name at the bottom, and pushing it to Avatar.
Avatar and the players couldn't understand the contract, as they couldn't read the language of the Kain Continent, so they turned to Saintess Roye for help.
Since the Lord of Eaglehold sat before her, Roye had been somewhat absent-minded.
Not because of past events, but because she felt an incredibly comforting aura from the Lord of Eaglehold, making her want to get closer, to touch, to lick, to rub against him.
And the longer the Lord of Eaglehold stayed in front of her, the stronger this feeling grew, almost overwhelming her consciousness.
So much so that when the player stood before her, waving a hand in front of her eyes for a long time, she didn't react.
"Saintess Sister? Your Highness the Saintess? Oh no, has the Saintess fallen for the Lord of Eaglehold? That look isn't right."
"Ah...?"
Avatar's muttering snapped Roye out of her daze, staring blankly at the Lord of Eaglehold.
She looked at the puzzled player in front of her, then at the Lord of Eaglehold's amused eyes, her face turning red as she hurriedly lowered her head, flustered.
"Is there... anything you need?"
"Uh..." Avatar was speechless, realizing the Saintess had been daydreaming and hadn't heard a thing.
The Saintess and protagonist Ye Hao were both unreliable; this batch of NPCs was getting harder to handle...
Avatar sighed inwardly, then patiently repeated, "It's like this, the Lord of Eaglehold has drafted the contract. Please check it, and if there are no objections, we'll sign it. If there are issues, we'll discuss them."
Roye looked at the scroll, reading aloud, "...hereby transferring all rights of the former Mayor Megil of Morninglight Town to the Demi-human Saintess Roye, including governance rights, ..., effective immediately, the Demi-human Saintess Roye becomes the Mayor of Morninglight Town, for an indefinite period. The Lord of Eaglehold will ensure the contract's validity and cannot terminate it..."
She read it several times, feeling something was off, but couldn't pinpoint any issues.
Confused, she looked up, seeking help from Avatar.
Avatar was taken aback, thinking, why are you looking at me? I don't understand your Kain Continent's rules either!
But what could he do? The Demi-human Saintess Roye was their favorite NPC.
Even if she was a bit silly and dazed, the players accepted it.
So Avatar had to muster the courage to ask the Lord of Eaglehold, "Lord of Eaglehold, as an Earl, you wouldn't play word games in the contract, would you?"
Sylvie almost burst out laughing but maintained a sincere smile, saying, "I'm a person who is meticulous and honest in both life and work. I've written the contract very clearly: the ownership of Morninglight Town is transferred from the original Mayor Megil to Roye, with a clear beginning and end, so any future issues can be traced back."
Avatar nodded, discussing with the other players, but finding no leads, they ultimately left the decision to the Demi-human Saintess Roye.
Roye glanced back and forth between the contract and Sylvie's face, biting her lip before nervously signing her name on the parchment.
After Roye signed, the parchment trembled, emitting a bright white light, before shattering into particles and disappearing.
Yet, everyone felt an overwhelming will sweep through the place.
They knew the contract had taken effect, acknowledged and protected by the Goddess of Order, and any violators would face divine punishment.
Sylvie wore a sunny smile, leaning back comfortably in his chair, clapping his hands in congratulations:
"Congratulations, Demi-human Saintess, you are now the Mayor of Morninglight Town."
The Demi-human Saintess Roye was also delighted, as this meant the demi-humans finally had a true home and no longer needed to wander.
And with the contract protected by the Goddess of Order, she didn't have to worry about the Lord of Eaglehold reneging.
However, at that moment, the Lord of Eaglehold's devilish voice echoed:
"Now, let's discuss the tax issues of Morninglight Town, a subsidiary of Eaglehold."
