Everyone Wants Me Dead: The Villain Lord's Survival Diary-Chapter 35 – Where did that dead dog come from, barking wildly?
"Taxes, taxes... taxes?"
Roye shot up from her seat like a cat whose tail had been stepped on.
"That's right, taxes."
Sylvie leaned back in his chair, one arm crossed over his chest, the other stroking his chin, his azure eyes full of mischief.
"You are the Mayor of Morninglight Town, and Morninglight Town belongs to Eaglehold. It's perfectly reasonable for me to collect taxes from Morninglight Town. Even the Goddess of Order wouldn't punish me for it."
"But..." Roye gritted her teeth, her pretty face flushed with anger as she argued, "But the ownership of Morninglight Town is clearly mine now!"
"I never said it wasn't yours." Sylvie shrugged, spreading his hands with a smile, "You indeed gained the authority over Morninglight Town that Megil once had, in the name of my Eaglehold. I was the witness and guarantor of this process, but the authority you gained was Megil's, not mine."
"Do you understand what I'm saying?"
"You... you!"
Roye was so confused by Sylvie's words that her head was spinning. She had grown up in the temple, learning how to serve the goddess and spread faith. After the Demi-human nation was destroyed, she wandered around, having no understanding of these complicated matters.
The players were also bewildered.
They didn't understand the Kain Continent, nor the Cologne Empire, and never thought an NPC in a game would set them up, even rubbing their intelligence in the dirt.
"Damn! We've been played!"
"So, does this mean we still have to pay taxes to the Eaglehold Lord, like a tribute?"
"...Seems like it."
"Did we get scammed? By an NPC? Is this really a game and not the real world? Are you kidding! I'm here to play the game, not be played by it."
"The Lord is so bad, I love it~ (✧∇✧)"
...
"Eaglehold Lord, a gentleman is open and honest. Your behavior lacks any sense of righteousness or morality, let alone the demeanor and magnanimity of a lord."
"You're nothing but a despicable and shameless scoundrel!"
At this moment, Ye Hao squeezed out from the players.
He stood tall and proud, his eyes sharp, speaking with neither humility nor arrogance, full of righteous indignation.
Sylvie looked at this unexpected big-tailed wolf, Ye Hao, thinking to himself, as a major villain, why should I talk to you about righteousness and morality, demeanor, and magnanimity?
He could still smile at the cute fox-eared girl, but he had no good face for Ye Hao. His eyes turned cold immediately, and he spat:
"Where did this dead dog come from, barking wildly in front of me!"
Ye Hao was so choked that he almost couldn't catch his breath, his handsome face turning visibly livid.
He, a favored son of heaven, raised in luxury, surrounded by stars, had never been insulted as a dead dog before.
"You... Eaglehold Lord, don't be so arrogant, dare you duel with me without relying on others? If you lose, you must hand over Morninglight Town to Roye completely, without any further interference, allowing it complete independence."
"Sure! But you can't use that skill of yours that boosts your power." Sylvie sneered.
"I think you're afraid."
Ye Hao stepped forward, his cold and arrogant gaze fixed on Sylvie, speaking slowly, "I didn't expect the mighty Eaglehold Lord to be nothing but a coward hiding behind his subordinates."
Sylvie couldn't be bothered with Ye Hao, just as he was about to slap him to teach him a lesson, the System Notification Sound rang in his mind.
"Ding! Daily quest updated:

Villain Quest 3: Forcefully kiss the Demi-human Saintess.
Completing this quest will unlock new system features in addition to daily rewards. Please continue your efforts to become the strongest villain."
"Goodness, does this damn system have a grudge against the Saintess?"
Though he complained in his heart, Sylvie thought, please, more of these twisted quests in the future, don't pity me just because I'm a handsome lord.
Since the system had issued the quest, Sylvie had no choice but to agree to Ye Hao's challenge.
He glanced at his status panel, having gone through several life-and-death battles, his level had reached 48.
No wonder the notorious lord was called the Star of the Empire; this body's talent was indeed somewhat monstrous, otherwise, he wouldn't have been taken as a disciple by the Legendary Sword Saint.
Previously, he saw Ye Hao's level was 47, and considering he didn't use his full strength the first time he fought Ye Hao, this duel should be easy.
But Sylvie not only wanted to fight, he wanted to take advantage, otherwise, it wouldn't fit his villainous style.
So Sylvie deliberately pretended to hesitate, thinking for a moment before saying reluctantly:
"Alright, I agree to your duel. But, what if I win? It can't be that if I lose, I have to fulfill your demands, and if I win, I get nothing, right?"
Sylvie's hesitation was noted by Ye Hao, who couldn't help but show a confident smile, thinking Sylvie was apprehensive, feeling guilty.
He had previously been able to suppress Sylvie, and now, just a few days later, he didn't believe Sylvie could break through to Sky Knight.
Ye Hao didn't think he would lose, so he readily agreed:
"What do you want, as long as it's not excessive, I can agree."
Sylvie glanced at the penniless Ye Hao, thinking, what I want, you can't give, can you? If I wanted your life, would you go and kill yourself?
So he set his sights on the cute fox-eared girl, flashing a wolfish, predatory smile.
Roye was taken aback by Sylvie's gaze, a hint of wariness appearing in her eyes as she nervously took two steps back, clutching her chest.
Sylvie was amused by Roye's nervousness, feeling a tickle in his heart. He pointed at the fox-eared girl, turning to Ye Hao, saying:
"If I win, I want her."
"No way!"
Ye Hao and Roye refused in unison, one looking furious, the other blushing with embarrassment.
"That request is unacceptable, choose another."
Ye Hao's face was stern, his voice leaving no room for doubt.
Sylvie frowned, thinking, you're really pushing it, aren't you?
But remembering the system quest, he held back his temper, a sly glint flashing in his azure eyes as he smiled slightly, saying, "How about this, if I win, let me and the Saintess be alone for five minutes."
Ye Hao gritted his teeth, about to refuse, but Roye tugged at his sleeve, gently shaking her head.
Her gentle, autumn-water-like eyes fixed on Ye Hao, trusting as she said, "Agree to it, Brother Ye Hao, I believe in you."
Ye Hao looked at the girl who had such faith in him, then glanced at the smiling Eaglehold Lord, pursing his lips and nodding.
"Alright, I accept the bet!"
