Genius’s Godlike Game Broadcast-Chapter 40 : Trying Out Gunner Ground (1)

Chapter 40

Trying Out Gunner Ground (1)
As soon as the game started, the logo of Gunner Ground appeared boldly and then vanished. The next location that appeared was somewhere Lee Gyeongbok also recognized.
"Oh, this is the shooting range. Genome, you really made it look just like the real thing."
It was the tutorial of Gunner Ground, a place very similar to the shooting range he had seen in MasterDissection.
― Honestly, in terms of modern FPS with a current-day setting, nothing beats Gunner Ground."
― For real, no matter what else I try, I always end up coming back to this game."
― If only the Big-earedguy had made Rainbow Seven properly, sigh."
― Ah, haha, do you still trust the Big-earedguy?"
― Warfield is pretty decent too, though!"
― Nope, uneducated can't do that lol~"
― Skip and just start the game already!"
Following the chat window's advice, Lee Gyeongbok was about to press the skip button, but then he reached toward the assault rifle.
"Oh, but you know, I've used pistols and shotguns before, but never really fired a rifle in-game. Let me just get a taste of it."
He grabbed the assault rifle, quickly loaded it, and took aim at the target.
'... Hmm?'
He frowned for a moment, then lightly pulled the trigger. One after another, the gunshots rang out, leaving clear bullet holes dead-center on the targets.
Even though the targets were at different distances, it looked as if each shot had been copy-pasted into exactly the same spot.
― LOL"
― Here we go, another [Pur][ple] kid, right?"
― Is it really the first time shooting?"
― Accuracy 100% (first try)"
― According to the broadcast logs it really is the first time, haha."
― Wow... This is insane."
― As expected, [master craftsman], just [per][fect]"
Most viewers reacted as if this was normal for him, but there were plenty who were surprised too. It was thanks to the influx of new viewers coming in after reading community posts.
However, Lee Gyeongbok himself just frowned slightly and tilted his head.
"Hmm... wait a minute. This feels kind of different from Bark..."
He quickly picked up a pistol and tried firing it again. As expected, every shot was dead-on.
― What's different?"
― Did you shoot badly in Bark or something?"
― No, back then he was even more amazing."
― For real lol, stripping a boss's armor with just a pistol is legendary."
― If [master craftsman] says so, there must be something."
― He hits all the shots, but says it's not the same!"
― Oh, maybe it's because of the ballistics system?"
Most viewers didn't get it, but one chat caught Lee Gyeongbok's eye.
"Ballistics?"
The mood in the chat window changed instantly at his question.
― Oh right."
― Information: The ballistics in Gunner Ground are super realistic."
― For real, you have to aim higher when shooting from far away."
― Bullets actually drop in a parabola."
― Ahaha, so many Gunner nerds in here."
― You have to check the wind too, haha. That's why I lick my finger before shooting."
― Okay, enough nonsense!"
― You realized this just by firing, right away?"
Lee Gyeongbok's expression relaxed at last. That subtle sense of discomfort had been nagging him, but now that he knew his instincts weren't off, he was relieved.
Right then—
― Ahaha, isn't this a bit much?"
― How can you actually feel the ballistics at this distance?"
― Did you do some research in advance and pretend not to know?"
― He's faking it for the camera, lol."
Seizing their chance, the trolls poked their heads out, starting to stir trouble by saying the current situation was staged.
"Staged? I just mentioned it because it felt different to me."
― For real, it was the viewer who brought up the ballistics, though?"
― Troll guys always make it obvious, haha."
― Intellectual annihilation level, lol."
― We all know the pattern haha, soon they'll say there are insiders among the viewers."
As Lee Gyeongbok responded, some viewers immediately backed him up. Even so, perhaps because it was a good opportunity, the trolls didn't back down easily.
― What, do you have any proof it's not staged?"
― Why, are we not allowed to say anything here?"
― Isn't it okay to just ask questions?"
― Come on, at least keep the acts believable."
Lee Gyeongbok slightly furrowed his brow.
'There really are people like this, huh.'
People blinded by jealousy, not here to enjoy together but to bring others down to boost their own self-esteem.
'Better to deal with this quickly.'
He hesitated, wondering whether to leave it for Park Juho to handle or mention it himself.
― Ahaha, what are these slowpokes doing?"
― Don't you know Bark has ballistics as well?"
― Information: Pretty much every FPS game has some level of ballistics."
― For real, it's not about having it or not, it's just a matter of degree."
― Isn't it actually impressive to notice this? — Does a sixth sense really exist, whoa."
― Normies just don't know stuff like that!"
― Troll guys are just causing trouble for nothing."
It wasn't just the streamer who hated trolls running wild during a broadcast. The fierce backlash from the viewers kept the trolls from doing much more.
—〈Manager has removed the viewer from the channel.〉
― Hahaha, you've made the manager dance with the sword."
—〈Manager has removed the viewer from the channel.〉
—Even if it's a Black Company, they do their job well!
As Park Juho swiftly took action, the situation was resolved immediately. Lee Gyeongbok clapped lightly to draw attention.
"There was a little commotion, but let's get on with the game now."
― There was a little bit of noise for a moment!"
― Trolls, hurry up and die already!"
― Feels so clean after cleaning up the trolls!"
― Why are there so many insider-joke comments, haha."
Lee Gyeongbok watched the now lively chat window and started matchmaking. As expected from a popular game with lots of users, he got matched right away and his field of vision shifted.
"Oh."
He found himself sitting inside a military aircraft.
The strong wind and deafening engine noise almost made his ears ring. Looking around, he saw that many people were in the same spot as him.
"Let's go to the school!"
"Come on! Come on!"
Some of them were taunting others as they jumped straight out of the plane.
"School?"
While Lee Gyeongbok asked suspiciously, the players began standing up one by one and jumping outside.
― LOL, godple's going to school too?"
― He's still a newbie, is he really going to school?"
― Isn't downtown safer?"
― No, for newbies, uptown is the standard."
― If he's [per][fect], he should go to military base."
― Exactly, if he's [master craftsman], he should go to the base."
The chat got heated with recommendations for Lee Gyeongbok's drop point. But most of the viewers insisted on the place called 'military base.'
"Base? What's that?"
― LOL, smells spicy."
― Phew... love that newbie smell... so thrilling..."
― Even as Godple, he's still a newbie, huh."
― It's short for military base, lol."
― It's the top tier looting spot!"
― Let's go looting!"
Checking the chat window, Lee Gyeongbok quickly turned on the in-game smart link. A hologram map popped up in front of him.
"Military base... Oh, here it is. Looks like I should go soon."
Just in time, the plane was approaching the military base. As the viewers said, since it was a good spot for looting, a lot of players were already jumping there.
― Oh, haha."
― Why is he suddenly talking like an old man? Haha."
― So cute, lol."
― But isn't it risky? You could die before getting any loot."
― Even Godple is as good as dead without a gun, whoa."
― Ah, so many people with little faith."
― [Pur][plelelujah](prayer emote)"
Lee Gyeongbok glanced at the chat and, smiling, threw himself outside.
The fierce wind filled his ears as he plummeted.
"WAAAAAAAH!"
"WHOA!"
Out of more than a dozen players, several were screaming as they fell.
The chat window filled with "LOL."
― 100 percent it's a greenhorn, haha."
― Honestly, the first time I jumped, I thought I'd die, haha."
― Famous for being a noob filter!"
― Godple looks totally calm, though lol."
― Wow, people popping parachutes already."
Because it was virtual reality, the fear was on another level. People with acrophobia absolutely couldn't play Gunner Ground.
A few players ended up opening their parachutes early and gently started their descent.
'So that's how you get down faster.'
In contrast, Lee Gyeongbok steadied himself and tried a vertical drop, copying the posture of players diving ahead of him.
― Huh?"
― He's going for a vertical dive on his very first round?"
― Whoa, gutsy."
― Info: In reality, godple has mentioned he's gutsy."
― What's going on?"
― Even his form is [per][fect]."
The ground rushed up at an insane speed. The structures of the military base that had looked tiny now filled his vision.
The players who had dived first opened their parachutes one by one.
But Lee Gyeongbok didn't.
― ????"
― What's he doing?"
― Wait, why doesn't he open the parachute?"
― Why isn't the system warning popping up???"
Normally, once you hit a certain altitude, a warning message would appear. Most players would use that as a signal to open their parachutes, but for Lee Gyeongbok, no such alert appeared.
― Ah! He doesn't have a HUD!"
― What? What's going on?"
― Facts: Purple plays with immersion set to max."
― Forgot because of Mystic, lol."
― Wow, is he actually doing it by feel?"
― First round, and he might die by plunge?"
Even veteran viewers didn't realize right away. During the previous Mystic League sessions, he had HUD on for ordering and map-reading.
'Just a little more...'
The viewers were getting anxious, but Lee Gyeongbok himself was totally focused and didn't even notice.
As his sixth sense intensified with his descent, he pushed himself to the limit. And at the exact critical moment—
With the sound of fabric flapping, his parachute snapped open and his body was jerked hard. Anyone ordinary would have been dragged away by the recoil.
'Got it!'
Lee Gyeongbok quickly adjusted his angle, let the force bleed off, and executed a perfect landing.
― LOL!"
― Is that even possible?"
― Even the landing is [per][fect], what's the problem?"
― Haha, now this is perfect."
― Wow, do I need to subscribe for this?"
"Wow, this is already so much fun."
With a brief impression, Lee Gyeongbok shrugged off his parachute bag and looked around.
'... What's this?'
His sharpened sixth sense wouldn't calm down. If anything, it felt even more acute now that his feet were on the ground.
'Is it some kind of item?'
It was like catching a whiff of something sweet. An enticing feeling drifted from all directions, but Lee Gyeongbok moved toward the strongest.
― Hurry up and loot! Loot!"
― The second wave's coming!"
― Haha, this is the best part of the base."
― Wait, how many people even came?"
― If you count newbies, over 20?"
― Oh, the munitions warehouse is good."
― Isn't it a bit far?"
Lee Gyeongbok was heading toward an abandoned munitions warehouse. It was a famous looting spot in the military base, with plenty of cover and obstacles, so it was good for combat.
'Someone's here.'
His glabella twitched.
Amidst all that sweetness, there was the unpleasant scent of something bloody and fishy, like a lump of meat in the middle of candy.
'Three of them? But why aren't they fighting each other?'
It was strange that they weren't already battling, given the circumstances. Once he pinpointed the positions of the players and the items, he quickly understood the situation.
'The items are bait—they formed a temporary team?'
They were all hiding around the item Lee Gyeongbok was aiming for. If he'd gone for it without thinking, that would have been the end.
'In that case...!'
It was a 3-vs-1 and he was unarmed. For anyone else, running away would be wise, but he was different.
"Gotcha!"
From behind a big box, a player leaped out aiming a pistol for a sneak attack.
― What?"
― Is it a trap?"
― Bait meta in the base now, whoa."
Viewers instantly foresaw his death. The moment the pistol fired, Lee Gyeongbok slid to the side.
"Wha—urk!"
As the attacker panicked due to his sudden disappearance, Lee Gyeongbok bounced up and kicked him across the jaw.
― What was that move?"
― Wow, so springy."
― Yami: Is it my time to shine?"
― Wait, this isn't Mystic!"
― What sort of hokage martial arts is this?"
"W-what the hell?!"
Another player, hiding elsewhere, leveled a submachine gun at him.
― There's another one?!"
― These guys are teaming in solo queue."
― These abuser guys are infuriating."
― It was so cool, but now he's dead."
― It's a Uzi, damn..."
― Shouldn't this be a ?"
Viewers were frustrated. It wasn't just a pistol, but a submachine gun.
But Lee Gyeongbok wasn't going to die that easily.
He grabbed the staggering man by the collar and pulled him close. With thunderous gunshots, the munitions warehouse lit up.
But Lee Gyeongbok was untouched.
[hanwoogameoggoshiftda 》Micro UZI》 Onlyoneground]
The bullets hadn't hit him at all.
― LOL!"
― Can you really play like this?"
― Come on, man, haha."
― Friend shield activated!"
― But since he's an enemy, it's an enemy shield, lol."
He'd just used the enemy as a disposable bulletproof vest. Lee Gyeongbok instantly snatched the pistol from the now-dead player's hand.
"Wait...!"
The now-dilated pupils of the attacker reflected a single bullet speeding toward him.
[PerfectPlay 》P1911》 hanwoogameoggoshiftda (HEAD SHOT!)]
With a cracking sound, the man collapsed.
― LOL!"
― Already legendary!"
― Abuser guys got their lesson for sure."
― Haha, the bait turned out to be a whale, huh?"
The viewers cheered, but Lee Gyeongbok wasn't relieved.
'There's still one left.'
There had been three enemies, and only two were down. As he expected, the remaining player dashed outside.
Lee Gyeongbok fired at his back, but only the clicking of an empty gun sounded.
― Oh? No bullets."
― He wouldn't know without a HUD!"
― So close...!"
― Wait, so if he'd missed the last shot, Purple would've died?"
― Miss? Purple doesn't [per][fect]ly miss."
While the viewers caught their breath, the fleeing enemy seemed to hesitate, then suddenly charged back at him.
― Uh, what's he doing?"
― That's some killer determination!"
― Reload! Reload fast!"
― Just retreat!"
The guy hadn't managed to grab a gun before, but got his hands on a 'hand axe' instead. Realizing Lee Gyeongbok was out of bullets, he decided to come back for revenge.
"Die!"
As the opponent charged, Lee Gyeongbok smiled faintly. He had already known the pistol was out of bullets.
"If you'd just run away, you'd have lived a little longer."
As soon as he said this, the chat window filled with question marks. The hand axe whooshed through the air with a slicing sound.
But the only thing it split was the air. Lee Gyeongbok slipped to the side with footwork and weaving.
Then, with a smooth hook, he slammed the attacker's jaw.
"Urg!"
With a single groan, the opponent collapsed.
[You knocked out 'magnetistooostrong' with a headshot using your 'fist']
A message popped up and the chat window broke into confusion.
― What? What is this?"
― Is this a bug?"
― Insane, haha!"
― Can you get a headshot with a fist?"
― Doesn't it only work if your helmet's already broken?"
― LOL, what the heck?"
― [Per][fect] punch! [Per][fect] punch!"
― Godple's spicy fist, taste it!"
'Knocked out' usually refers to a situation where, if you're wearing a helmet (known as 'ttoog' or 'ttoogbaegi' in game slang), only a gun can deliver a headshot.
"Oh, really? Normally you can't get a headshot with your fist?"
Lee Gyeongbok innocently asked as he turned the empty pistol in his hand. He struck the downed opponent and finished him off.
[PerfectPlay 》P1911》 magnetistooostrong (HEAD SHOT!)]
The new system message left the chat window full of laughter and question marks.
― Wait, how does this even work?"
― Do you not need to use bullets to finish them?"
― Maybe it's based on the weapon you're holding at the time, haha."
― If headshots register like this, then fists must work too."
― LOL, so it's not a bug?"
Of course, no one could answer definitively. Lee Gyeongbok promptly located the green box containing the item he had been after.
With a click, the box opened.
"Oh, a matched set."
Inside were an assault rifle, dot sight, vertical grip, and quickdraw magazine.
― Wow! M4!"
― Full attachments loot, for real?"
― Insane, haha."
― Normally you only get one or two attachments, haha."
― Even his luck is [per][fect]."
― Ah, [per][fect] incarnate!"
― He was amazing unarmed—now with this, he'll wipe everyone out, haha."
Viewers who didn't know about the sixth sense just chalked it up to luck. Lee Gyeongbok gave a soft smile at the chat and quickly assembled the weapon and attachments.
Then, wearing an even deeper smile, he said,
"By now, the other areas have probably finished looting and fighting."
A vague sense of foreboding began creeping in, and the sound of gunshots echoed in the distance.
The real military base firefight was about to begin.
