Editor's Night
Late at night.
Streamer Purple's broadcast had ended, but Team Perfect's work hadn't. In fact, this was when the real work began.
Editor Choi Byeonghun had just finished the video he'd been working on.
[Perfect-style Equipment Crafting, "Quintillion"!]
On the screen, next to Lee Gyeongbok wielding a hammer in the forge, there was a comic-style speech bubble.
This was the thumbnail and title that Choi Byeonghun had selected.
"Done. Let's get this up first."
He pressed the upload button and let out a brief sigh. But it still wasn't time to rest.
He immediately opened his messages.
[〉Just finished video editing]
[〉Give it a review and some feedback, and I'll update it right away]
The recipient was a freelancer editor called "Madman."
Because the broadcast had ended later than usual, the workload had increased, so he'd outsourced the work again.
The footage included everything from the Corrupted Knight battle up to the boss fight with the Snow Mountain Drake.
Choi Byeonghun quickly skimmed through the footage and typed up his feedback.
[〉The story up to the drake is okay.]
[〉But I think the Corrupted Knight fight scene needs to be redone.]
[〉Way too many slow-motion shots. I get that Purple handled it so fast you wanted to draw focus to it, but repeating the same effect gets boring fast.]
[〉Instead, try varying the camera work. Maybe even show things from the knight's POV as he gets beaten, that kind of thing.]
[〉I know it's easier to stick with what you're familiar with, but remember, this isn't a modern combat vibe. Give it a bit more thought and try again.]
Even with some camaraderie, there's a strict line between personal and professional.
Madman had always specialized in editing Gunner Ground, so his inexperience with cold weapon combat footage was obvious.
[〉Got it!]
[〉Thanks for the feedback. You're totally right. No way we can make Purple stand out this way.]
[〉I'll reflect your notes as much as possible and send the revised version over.]
Madman replied almost instantly. Despite the blunt review, his motivation was clear.
"That guy's completely hooked on our stuff now."
Choi Byeonghun grinned at Madman's attitude.
"I mean, where else would you ever find a source like Gyeongbok?"
For Madman, it was more about the reactions to his editing than the pay.
And in that regard, Lee Gyeongbok was practically the perfect source for footage—no one else would really compare.
"If you're putting aside your own channel for this, that says everything."
That's also why video uploads on Madman's own channel, "Mad Gunner," had slowed down.
"Uuugh...!"
Choi Byeonghun stretched, and his stiff body actually creaked.
He cracked open a can of energy drink from the fridge, took a short swig, and scrolled through the community on his smart link.
"Wow... still burning up in here."
He didn't even need to search for Purple's name. Most of the posts were already about the recent broadcast.
Interestingly, reactions were divided into two main camps.
[Spoiler) FromSoft never forgot the king roots]
[Knew it—the Elden series is always about the knights!]
[Wasn't so sure about the knight order treatment this time, but I knew it lol]
[If you think you're an Elden noob, gotta watch Purple's stream at least twice]
Accounts with higher community levels and long-time fans of the Elden series were pleased to see the knight order shine so much this time around.
[FromSoft's new game is out, lol]
[Did you hear Elden Musou just launched?]
[Elden's Top Sword has proven the omnipotence of swords again!]
[Who said use spears for mob fights? You a Shandong Opera origin or something?]
Meanwhile, new folks with lower-level accounts were especially focused on Purple's insane plays. Many marveled at the "musou" gameplay—believed impossible in an Elden game.
Choi Byeonghun smirked at the community jokes and focused on a post with a lot of likes.
[How do you think Godple will tackle the final boss?]
A post with a ton of comments caught his eye, so he dove in.
[I've seen at least one ending
But since there'll be new folks, let's avoid spoilers in the comments, lol
For any newbies here accidentally, let me explain—the final boss is so brutal From recommends co-op.]
[-If it's Purple, it's gotta be solo-clear all the way, lol]
[naElden's Top Sword could pull it off.]
[naLOL, another legendary vid coming]
[naBut isn't it a bad ending if you do it solo?]
[naFfs, there's always some guys who spoil stuff even when told not to]
[naBlock the spoiler clowns, bye]
[-Co-op is the way to go, lol, even did that for ECL]
[naYeah, think they picked like 5 for ECL by audition]
[naThat was super fun, lol]
[naYeah, but it was seriously down to the wire]
[naFrom really made the final boss fight hellish, lolol]
[-If stream snipers are likely, it might turn into a collab stream?]
[naOh? Maybe he'll do it with ECL?]
[naHe's pretty tight with Genome, too, lol]
[naSo would that make it Per-Gen collab, lol]
[naOr maybe NewtonLord will appear, lolol]
[naWould that malicious guy really fight together though, ffs]
As he was skimming comments, a "beep" notification stole his focus.
"Ah, it's done."
The upload notification for the video had arrived. Choi Byeonghun cleared away the hologram and sat back down at his desk.
He still had lots more to edit.
"I'll get this all uploaded before lunchtime no matter what."
To pull in as many new folks as possible, the best time to upload was when the broadcast was still getting attention—the peak was around lunch.
That was partly because a lot of people watched Q-tube during lunch.
"I gotta hit trending again."
Even more important was Q-tube's algorithm. If he uploaded as the views were spiking, it was likely the video would make the trending list by the evening or at night.
"That way, I can reach more potential viewers."
The editor's job wasn't just editing and uploading videos. Running a channel wasn't a hobby—it was a business, and it took strategy.
In that respect, Choi Byeonghun was an excellent editor—a motivated and skilled asset perfect for Team Perfect.
He threw himself back into his work. Even while editing the boss fight footage, he went over Madman's revised version and uploaded it.
* * *
The dark sky turned faintly blue. The night gave way to dawn, and by the time morning sun spilled through the window:
"Ugh... finally done!"
Choi Byeonghun had finished all his work. He'd finished it even earlier than he'd expected.
[〉Byeonghun, still awake?]
Just then, a message from Park Juho arrived.
[〉Yeah, still up]
[〉How's your condition?]
[〉I'm fine. Actually finished earlier than expected.]
[〉So all the videos are uploaded already?]
[〉Yeah, uploading right now.]
[〉Good work. Go get some sleep now.]
Choi Byeonghun chuckled.
True to his manager role, Park Juho was checking the editor's condition and work schedule the moment he got up.
[〉Oh, everyone's awake.]
[〉Broadcast was a bit long yesterday, huh? The video ran longer too, right?]
Just then, Lee Gyeongbok messaged in as well.
[〉Hey! I can easily cover this much, okay?]
[〉More footage means more content and more money, so it's great, right? Lol]
[〉Byeonghun, but if you burn out, that's a huge loss.]
[〉As I always say, condition comes first.]
[〉Juho's got a point, lol.]
[〉Still, good to know you're fine. I'm off for my morning workout—call me if anything urgent comes up.]
[〉Okay, thanks. I'm off to bed now.]
It was early morning, but for him, his shift was just ending. Byeonghun got ready for bed and flopped onto his mattress.
He felt tempted to just sleep, drained as he was from all the energy drinks.
"I'll just check the video's feedback one last time, then sleep."
Byeonghun was a creator too. Like Madman, he drew his motivation from viewers' response to his work.
"Whoa... Already at 200k?"
The first weapon crafting video was blowing up. Even at dawn, views had already hit over 200,000, and there were more than 500 comments.
[-Insane lol look at this title lolol]
[naMan! Kai!]
[naBruh this isn't THAT Quintillion!]
[naWhy the Quintillion all of a sudden?]
[naBecause the odds are one to a quintillion, lololol]
[naEditor's sense is also perfect, isn't it?]
[naLOL one of the reasons to rewatch Purple channel videos]
[naBlack Company victim alert, rip]
The subscribers' praise made Byeonghun break into a wide smile. His fatigue seemed to vanish in an instant.
"Huh?"
Among the comments, one caught his eye—it stood out with its rapidly climbing likes.
[AnatomyQA]
The legendary Q-tuber known for analysis content, "AnatomyQA," had appeared again on Purple's channel.
And that wasn't the only reason it was topping the recommendations.
[Hello!
PerfectPlay, and all subscribers!
I'm AnatomyQA.
I left a comment before on the Bio Crisis coin gacha video.
I was surprised then, but not as much as I am now. Back then, I chalked it up as mere coincidence.
But when it happens twice, it's fate. That's what I believe. The Elden Soul equipment crafting you did this time is not a coincidence.
I actually gave up on this crafting attempt. At the time, I figured if I gave up, then no one else could pull it off either.
But my first feeling watching this video was embarrassment. I realized I'd forgotten why subscribers loved me.
So, I'll challenge myself again.
Just as you do, I'll live up to the name I've made for myself.
P. S.
I heard my comment on the Bio Crisis video became a meme due to automatic translation.
So this time, I had it professionally translated.]
This comment was quite a bit longer compared to last time, and, surprisingly, it was pure Korean rather than a translation.
"Real geniuses go global for a reason."
Byeonghun smiled and pinned the comment to the top. He closed his eyes, more than satisfied.
* * *
A slightly late lunch hour.
It was Team Perfect's meeting time.
Except, instead of their usual cafe, they were at a ginseng chicken soup restaurant.
It was a treat for Choi Byeonghun, who'd handled more work than usual.
"Tang, is this company welfare or what?"
"Truth is, I really wanted some ginseng soup—just used you as an excuse."
Giggling, Choi Byeonghun asked, and Lee Gyeongbok replied playfully. The three men dove into their meals.
"Well, don't you just eat with so much gusto. Try this, too."
During the meal, the restaurant's ajumma approached and set down a new plate: grilled dried pollock.
"What's this?"
Park Juho adjusted his glasses and asked. The ajumma glanced at Lee Gyeongbok and answered.
"It's service, on the house. Our grilled pollock is delicious—if you like it, could you give us an autograph before you go?"
"An autograph?"
Lee Gyeongbok's eyes widened.
"What, you're here for a shoot, right? Wasn't there talk of editing and stuff? You must be a celebrity, aren't you?"
"Hahaha, no, Ma'am."
"Really? Why?"
She genuinely looked baffled, but then smiled again and pushed the plate to the center.
"Well, you'll be a celebrity soon enough. Just don't forget our place later, okay? This is a bribe, a bribe."
"That's..."
"Thank you so much. We'll enjoy it."
As the ajumma joked, Park Juho slightly frowned. Before he could finish his sentence, Choi Byeonghun had already grabbed a piece of pollock and eaten it.
Satisfied, the ajumma left. Park Juho shot him a glare.
"Hey, you..."
"Relax. I just didn't want you making things awkward with your killjoy act again. Try it, it's actually good."
Lee Gyeongbok nodded at Choi's words.
"Yeah, it's a gesture of goodwill, so why not?"
"Well, if you say so."
There was a small mishap, but the meal ended quickly. That's typically how it was when guys ate together.
Only after filling up did the real meeting agenda come up.
"The final boss raid?"
"Yeah. I think we should set this up before going live."
"I agree. Normally, I try not to give you too much info so you can immerse yourself, but if you don't know this, the broadcast could go sideways."
At his friends' words, Lee Gyeongbok listened closely.
"So... what's the catch here?"
"This raid allows up to 10 people—including you and other players, as summoned spirits."
"And yeah, it's doable solo, but if you go alone, you're guaranteed to get the bad ending."
"Bad ending?"
Lee Gyeongbok's eyes widened. Definitely a situation that could torpedo a stream if he didn't know ahead of time.
"If you go solo, alicia joins as a support, but she dies during the fight."
"Yikes, that can't happen."
He shook his head immediately. Having watched viewers' affection for Alicia, he knew it would absolutely kill the mood near the game's end if she died.
"But if you just invite randoms, stream snipers could slip in."
"Those losers who couldn't crash the duel before are probably just waiting for a shot at this."
"Hmmm..."
Malicious snipers who crashed the previous duel had been put off by MetaGamer's response and likely wouldn't return, but plenty of snipers still lurked out there.
"So, on the community, people are betting you'll collab with ECL or Genome."
"Honestly, that would be the safest plan, but sending out an invite the day of is kinda rude."
"Eh, but I doubt those two would care, don't you think?"
Choi shrugged, but Park Juho shook his head sternly.
"That might be true for those two, but what about their staff? If you force last-minute schedule changes, it's going to rub some people the wrong way. Even if they don't say it aloud."
"Hmm, that's fair, now that you mention it. Been on the receiving end of that myself, way back."
Watching his two friends strategize, Lee Gyeongbok chimed in.
"Let's pick viewers on the spot. That'll be more fun."
"Fill it with viewers?"
"We already said—couldn't a sniper sneak in that way?"
His friends voiced their worries, but Lee Gyeongbok smiled mischievously.
"Doesn't matter."
"Huh?"
"What do you mean, doesn't matter...?"
Lee Gyeongbok looked at the empty pollock plate—now just bones.
"If a stream snipe happens, it'll just make it more entertaining."
