Chapter 1958: Chapter 1960: A Lost Memory
The little girl you pulled aside noticed the woman waking up and hurried to her, babbling some words.
The woman then turned to look at you and gave a slight smile.
It was precisely this smile, as if a hundred flowers were blooming, that made you feel as if your entire world suddenly burst into vibrant, dazzling flowers. For some reason, you instinctively reached out to hold the woman. Her body was surprisingly cold, not the kind of cold caused by freezing, but as if she was naturally ice-cold, holding her felt like embracing a block of ice.
But you didn’t let go; the cold of her body did not ease despite your warmth. You looked at the woman in wonder, and due to the language barrier, you could only smile back at her while you held her thin body near the warm flames.
Unexpectedly, the woman soon started struggling and shaking her head at you, even giving you a pleading look. The little girl kept patting your arm, signaling you to put the woman down.
Initially, you thought they were rejecting you; however, you quickly realized that the woman’s body was indeed different. Your own body started to turn cold because of the woman. Just when you were about to let her go, you found yourself paralyzed, your limbs couldn’t move at all.
Seeing this, the little girl kept patting you, but then something strange happened.
The woman’s body began to frost over, and the frost quickly enveloped you. In a very short moment, you both turned into an ice sculpture.
"Damn, did I time travel just to die like this?"
While you regretted deeply in your heart, your dantian suddenly emitted a stream of warmth, no, it was five streams of warmth. These five streams merged and instantly spread throughout your body, dissipating the frost on both you and the woman.
The crying little girl next to you looked on, speechless and wide-eyed, while you, freed from danger, were bewildered. Strangely, at the moment you felt like you were about to die, countless images flashed quickly through your mind, yet none of them registered as familiar, not even an impression. Although the images came fast, you still saw scenes of several heavenly immortal-like women.
"Strange, why do I feel like I’m missing a memory?" You scratched the back of your head, realizing you could move now.
After the frost faded, the woman fell into unconsciousness. Though you could feel her breathing, her body remained cold, albeit slightly warmer than before. You held the woman tightly in your embrace; to you, her figure and appearance were of the highest caliber, and you couldn’t bear the thought of her facing any harm, especially since you both had just barely escaped the Ghost Gate.
"Gurgle—"
Your stomach growled at that moment.
A black lump was handed to you through the little girl’s slender hand.
You grinned, a subtle smile on your face.
You intended to take it and swallow it whole, as your hunger was intense. But you suddenly realized the little girl only had that one black lump left in her left hand; she had prepared it as food for herself, with the remaining one meant for the woman in your arms. You suddenly thought that the little girl had so little food, the small fish and shellfish she had collected from the beach were woefully inadequate and inedible.
Faced with a stranger and language barrier, the little girl’s kindness was indeed rare. Realizing this, you gently placed the woman on the bedding and decided to search for food on the mountain before nightfall.
The woman was already asleep, her body temperature now closer to normal, which gave you some comfort. After all, losing such a beautiful woman to death would be an extraordinary regret.
Under the little girl’s puzzled gaze, you slowly stood up and looked around.
Given your inadequate position, you quickly ran to a large rock on the hillside. Standing there, you finally saw your surroundings clearly.
This is a small fishing village, surrounded by stretching mountains, with a small river flowing from the hills to the sea. The village is built along this river.
Looking at where the villagers constructed their buildings, it’s evident these mother-daughter or sister pairs are isolated by the villagers. Because only they live on this hillside, quite a distance from the water source, with dense forest behind, they couldn’t escape if fierce beasts attacked.
It looks like a recent nature disaster struck here, judging by the collapsed houses and uprooted trees, possibly a typhoon. Down on the flat lands below, villagers are helping each other rebuild their homes.
You noticed some villagers staring towards the hillside, with a few prepared to come up, but others persuaded them not to. Clearly, there must be some reason. Yet, with your temperament, you didn’t bother with such trivial matters and instead began planning your future path.
The immediate priority was to fill your stomach.
You didn’t intend to ask villagers for food; aside from the language barrier, it felt too much like begging. You turned to face the mountain forest, its density far exceeding your imagination. However, the thicker the forest, the more life it harbors, and the more dangers lurk within.
You thought since you wouldn’t go deep, just find food, and started walking towards the mountain forest.
Logically, food should be found at sea, but for some reason, facing the sea filled you with natural fear, as if the sea was a fierce beast.
The little girl saw you heading into the forest and rushed over, pulling at you, shaking her head repeatedly. You smiled, placed your hand on her head, and patted your solid chest to indicate your strength. Unable to persuade you further, the little girl continued shaking her head and soon turned back to stay beside the woman.
After walking a while, you found a line of fences and rubble ahead, with sharp wooden spikes beyond. These were evidently barriers against wild beasts. Crossing these obstacles meant you entered the real forest area. The trees on the outer edges were all askew due to the typhoon, but the ones inside remained upright and towering. Fortunately, there was a meandering path, which you followed, walking not far before something rustled in the grass ahead. You froze, spotting a gray-white wild rabbit.
Upon seeing the wild rabbit, you felt a natural impulse to pounce, as if it was an instinct, and you could leap over twenty meters to catch the swift rabbit.
As you hesitated, the rabbit made its move!
