Chapter 1960: Chapter 1962: Seven Days Left to Live
"Ah, never mind, when the boat gets to the pier-head, it will go straight with the current!" Unable to recall anything anyway, you decide not to worry about it, grab the steel blade, and head down to the little river at the foot of the mountain to hunt rabbits.
After the three of you have a hearty meal, you begin to converse with the woman: "Where is this place?"
"Ixie Kingdom, that’s what you Han people call us."
"Han people?" From the woman’s words, you pick up the keyword, "Are you saying there are Han people here?"
"There are." The woman nods, appearing remarkably beautiful and radiant under the firelight. "More than a year ago, the Great Han Dynasty sent envoys to Xiematai Kingdom and Zigudu Kingdom. They became vassal states of the Great Han and started paying tribute to gain its support. The Great Han also sent some Han people here to help train soldiers and build cities."
Upon hearing this, a general picture forms in your mind. It’s evident that you have traveled back to ancient China, and most likely to the Han Dynasty.
You continue to ask, "How far is it from here to the Great Han?"
The woman looks up to locate the stars and then points westward, "In the distant west beyond the sea, that’s the Great Han’s vast territory stretching over hundreds of thousands of miles."
"The sea, westward?" A map of Earth naturally appears in your mind, and you immediately jump back in surprise, exclaiming, "Damn it! I’m actually in Fusang!"
You don’t elaborate on the woman’s confusion, knowing she could never comprehend the meaning of "Fusang," and you aren’t inclined to let these words exist in this world either.
For the time being, you won’t delve into your memory blanks, as you currently lack the energy and time.
Looking steadily at the woman, you ask, "Since this isn’t Xiema Country nor Zigudu Kingdom, how can you, an ordinary person, speak Chinese?"
The woman knew you would eventually ask this question. Instead of hiding the truth, she openly replies, "I’m not ordinary; I’m just a wretched person exiled from my country, far from my own people."
At this point, the woman instinctively looks up to the northwestern sky.
Her profile presents itself perfectly before you, tugging at a heartstring for some unknown reason. At this moment, a feminine silhouette fleetingly flashes through your mind, disappearing before you can grasp it.
Though the woman’s body has been cold and sickly throughout, she has never shown a hint of cowardice. Yet, this makes you feel a strong compassion for her, almost instinctively. Your hand reaches to embrace the woman who is just inches away, pulling her into your arms when she is caught by surprise.
The woman doesn’t resist, nor does she meet your eyes, simply sitting quietly in your embrace, absorbing the warmth emanating from your body. As she sits with you, the chill enveloping her dissipates completely, as a blush of exquisite beauty gradually appears on her beautiful face.
"By the way, you still haven’t told me your name." Holding the woman, you look up at the moon above.
The woman hesitates a moment before softly replying, "My name, Himiko."
At that instant, you’re taken aback. After a brief pause, you slowly lower your head, looking at Himiko in your embrace, and smile: "So, I still have such luck. I never expected the distinguished Queen of Xiematai would warm herself in my arms."
Himiko likewise didn’t expect you to know her, surprised that a Han person is aware of the Queen of a distant small country to the east, indicating that you’re not an ordinary Han person.
However, such matters do not concern Himiko anymore. Having lost her country and home, she is now a slave not even regarded as a peasant, a female slave to that hawk-eyed man, at his disposal. If her guards hadn’t risked their lives to escort her out, she would now wish she were dead.
Seeing the look of desolation on Himiko’s face, you gently lift her chin with your hand, smiling as you say: "What’s past is past. Since you’re here, and since God has led us to meet, this is what they call fate. I wonder, are you interested in helping me fully unite this Land of Rising Sun?"
No matter if you’ve lost your memories, as someone from modern times, you have always held a passion: to make the Eastern Sea, this Land of Rising Sun, into a province of the Han people!
Unexpectedly, Himiko shakes her head, the desolation on her face vanishes instantly. She simply sits comfortably in your arms, looking at the moon overhead: "My lifelong wish was for my people to no longer be poor and suffering, but alas, fate is cruel. Now, the country is lost, the people are gone, and the Xiematai Kingdom is no more. But I’ve heard that Xiematai Kingdom has merged with Xiema Country, and people’s lives are better than before at least. I no longer yearn for anything else."
You don’t comprehend the woman’s thoughts. Regarding this historically renowned legendary queen, you know very little. She appears frail yet not helpless, clearly not despairing but having seen through everything.
You don’t dwell on this issue further; there’s plenty of time later. The idea to unify Japan and assimilate it into Han culture will never change for you.
"By the way, why is your body so cold?" You shift the topic.
Himiko smiles and says, "If I calculate it rightly, I should have about seven days left."
"Why do you say that?" With Himiko’s words, an unsettling feeling begins creeping into your heart, as if something you cherish deeply is about to shatter.
Himiko gently shakes her head, smiling with ease and elegance: "Let’s not talk about this; can you tell me about the Great Han? I’ve always admired that prosperous and powerful place since childhood. My teacher said the Great Han’s borders stretch for hundreds of thousands of miles, with beautiful grasslands, majestic mountains, and prosperous people."
You sigh softly, only lightly holding Himiko, narrating stories of culture and people that you’ve seen on television.
This night is destined to be sleepless.
The next day, when Himiko and her maid Little Cherry awaken, they discover the tall man, bare-chested, building a house on the flat ground near their mountain cave. By now, the house’s framework is already up, made from nearby trees, with the massive beams standing perpendicular to the ground, leaving Himiko and Little Cherry utterly amazed.
It’s worth noting that while the Sen Luo Eye was sealed, your mind remains active, and for you, constructing such a simple wooden hut is a piece of cake.
Himiko sits watching at the side, while Little Cherry assists by passing materials and water.
