Investigation Report of the Gods-Chapter 127 : Wei Lan’s Visit

Chapter 127

Chapter 127: Wei Lan’s Visit
The encrypted spells within the three major sequences all largely originated from the same source, though they were interconnected in different ways. The Zero Sequence encrypted spells, from No. 1 to No. 13, each had their own distinct characteristics and could not be integrated with one another.
In a certain sense, this actually suited Han Su quite well.
At present, he had no intention of touching the three major sequences.
First, they were too troublesome, requiring rather tedious testing and observation; second, he was already biting off more than he could chew.
Miss Ai had previously reminded him that spaghetti code wouldn’t run far. What he needed to do now was deepen his understanding of his own levels of power, solidify his foundation. Moreover, if he wished to grasp some new mysterious powers, it didn’t seem particularly difficult.
At worst, he could just return to the Ancient Castle and touch a monster—or be touched by a monster...
What truly piqued his interest was the Life Code Miss Ai had deliberately reminded him of.
After chanting the Fisherman’s Chant, his spiritual activity was now far higher than that of an ordinary person. Furthermore, his repeated special experiences of returning to the Ancient Castle had given him a large reserve of spiritual power. But the intermittent nature of this spiritual power was uncomfortable.
It was like shackles, segment by segment, restricting his performance.
If there was a way to break this limitation...
From Miss Ai’s hints, he had vaguely perceived that the “Life Code” seemed to serve precisely such a function.
Unfortunately, the permissions to obtain this Life Code were still somewhat far from his current reach.
The fact that Miss Ai had accidentally “bugged” and mentioned its existence to him was already good enough.
He couldn’t very well demand that her “bug” be even bigger and give him the full content, could he?
For now, what he could attempt were these Zero Sequence spells.
Zero Sequence spells were generally not powerful and couldn’t be compared to the three major sequences at all, but their applications were very broad.
For example, No. 06 — All Things Obey My Will.
This spell could allow one’s spiritual power to infiltrate another person’s mind, or exist within some kind of vessel, erasing or suppressing the other party’s activity. Its range of application was wide enough, and it was one of the three spells that Disaster Management Bureau investigators were required to master.
Then there was No. 08 — Devil’s Kiss.
This one didn’t look like it belonged to the righteous path, but its effect was unexpectedly impressive.
It was actually an encrypted spell that could effectively alleviate one’s injuries, extremely useful in combat.
However, after using this spell, one’s spiritual power would be continuously consumed for quite a long time.
The effect was significant, but so was the cost.
As for the others: No. 07 could enhance the senses and gather information at night or in shadows.
No. 09 could grant a boost in physical strength through the expenditure of spiritual power.
No. 10 could locate sources of contamination.
No. 11 could summon certain mysterious entities for one’s own use.
No. 12 allowed one to form contracts with others.
No. 13 was a special case; its description claimed it could erase all spiritual activity, but no one had ever managed to use it.

Back when Red Trench Coat trained him, she had said that mysterious powers were not to be learned greedily and superficially. Even the former gods could only represent their own sequence—there was no way anyone could master too many at once.
Although the Zero Sequence had low secrecy levels and was easy to come into contact with, it wasn’t something anyone could just instantly master in its entirety. Han Su had no such ambition—he simply wanted to learn as much as possible.
He would memorize the spells, understand them as best he could. Even if they weren’t useful often, being able to rely on them in a critical moment would be good enough.
Beyond that, he worked to cram the most basic knowledge about mysterious powers, infiltration incidents, contamination, and gods.
Han Su understood the importance of a solid foundation. His repeated experiences in the Ancient Castle had also taught him the importance of the three words: “Don’t make mistakes.”
Thus, while training and recuperating, he appeared to live a few days of peaceful life on the surface. He spent most of his time in the base, even applying to Zhang Chiguo for a private dorm room. He rarely went to the university—at worst, he could just bring his credentials to speak with his advisor.
Xu Ji, on the other hand, had resumed attending classes, but he had completely dropped his street-racing habit.
Others assumed he had aftereffects from a car accident and was now afraid.
But Xu Ji denied it, saying, “I’m not into cars anymore—just because I’ll never find one cooler than that one…”
Everyone was astonished. “What car? Even Young Master Xu is so envious?”
Xu Ji refused to elaborate, only showing deep admiration: “That car… shakes its rear.”
Apart from that, Wei Lan’s side was a bit troublesome. Two days after the group parted at Lilac Courtyard, Han Su found her sitting on the steps outside his apartment.
This celebrity—whose billboards had begun to blanket Qinggang City’s every corner—was wrapped in a headscarf, sitting there with a dejected Xu Ji beside her, looking thoroughly disgruntled:
“You two doing this underground dating thing—why’d you have to drag me along as a guide? I have class this afternoon…”
“…”
“It’s not dating!”
Han Su corrected Xu Ji, then looked at Wei Lan, feeling just as puzzled.
“Go back to class, then!”
Wei Lan dismissed Xu Ji, then entered the apartment. Once she confirmed it was safe to talk here, she couldn’t help but say excitedly, “I feel like there are so many things I never got to discuss with you in detail. It wasn’t easy to get the chance, so I came to find you.”
“I… even fear you might suddenly disappear.”
“So I had to come take a look—also leave a location marker, so it’s easier to contact you later.”
“…”
Han Su was surprised. “Couldn’t you just send a message?”
Wei Lan said seriously, “I don’t trust the current communications network. The things we’ve experienced are too strange—if certain people found out, it could cause huge trouble.”
If someone sees you coming to my apartment, that’s trouble too…
Han Su laughed. “If we’re talking leaks, before I joined the Disaster Management Bureau and learned of all this, I’d already let the cat out of the bag. Now it’s too late to silence me even if they wanted to. Of course, we should be careful in the future, but we don’t need to be this careful.”
“How’s your face?”
“…”
Wei Lan removed her headscarf, revealing a fine wound on her cheek, still seeping red.
It wasn’t large; in a way, it even lent her delicate features a bewitching allure. But the constant bleeding did look strange.
Thinking of her work, Han Su frowned. “No way to heal it?”
Wei Lan shook her head with a smile. “Only certain high-level powers from the same system—or finding the source of the wound—could heal it. But it’s not important.”
“I can feel the shadow that once affected my fate in Ti City fading, and the Life Code growing clearer. Before, when I got the Queen title here in Qinggang City, my chance of successfully advancing was only 30%. Now, it’s over half.”
“…”
“The source…”
Han Su’s eyes narrowed slightly. The source of Wei Lan’s scar might very well be that mutated monster.
Zhang Chiguo had said the creature’s transformation was delayed, but how much longer could it be?
Now, he had even less ability to predict when it would succeed—he could only remain alert.
Still, another word Wei Lan used piqued his curiosity. “You also have a Life Code?”
Wei Lan was surprised by the question, then realized that Han Su was still a newcomer to the Mysterious Side.
Smiling, she said, “Everyone has a Life Code—it’s a necessary threshold. Without unlocking it, no matter what powers you’ve mastered, you’re only imitating, not truly wielding mysterious power.”
“But everyone’s path is different, and the source they face is different—so the Life Code is different. Our Queen Organization’s Life Code wouldn’t suit you.”
“Unless you changed gender—but even then, you’d have to look good…”
“…”
Han Su was speechless. He had no interest in the Queen Organization’s Life Code, but he did ask more about its function.
After some discussion, it was getting late—time for Wei Lan to leave. Yet she seemed reluctant, and excitedly asked the question she most cared about: “When will you next try to save other children?”
“Is there anything I can do to help?”
“…”
Han Su froze at the question, then slowly shook his head. “You can’t help with this.”
“If we’re talking about action—it’ll be soon. Two more days…”
“…”
At that point, he realized it was pointless to explain further.
Given the usual flickering pattern, even if he succeeded this time, Wei Lan would probably forget—or adapt.
No matter how many he saved, to her, it would always have been that way.
But then again, she was already contaminated by mechanical fragments… would she flicker with him next time?
The thought stirred something in him, though he didn’t dare hope too much.
Wei Lan, unaware of his thoughts, only looked a bit dejected. “So I just have to wait?”
She didn’t like having to repeat, over and over in front of Han Su, how thrilled she’d been after remembering these events. Her desire to take action was already stirring—like someone tormented by an unseen monster for ages, who had finally glimpsed one of its scales.
“If you really can’t sit still, then help me investigate the Crystal Skull Organization!”
Han Su could see her unease and just smiled. “As for the rest, don’t worry too much. Don’t be in such a rush to find me—focus on preparing for your competition. This world won’t let us rest.”
“As for saving people—this time, I’m already prepared.”
