Chapter 128: Rescue Plan
This time, he truly was prepared.
Han Su had been watching the movement of the Mechanical Fragment’s pointer, and now, it was between “1” and “2.”
If his guess was correct, then in just over a day, the Flicker would arrive.
For Wei Lan, this was an action that made her indescribably excited.
Although this might inevitably be something no outsider could perceive progress in, Han Su had indeed made full preparations this time.
Seeing the determination in Han Su’s eyes, Wei Lan no longer asked questions, though her expression was somewhat complex.
Before leaving, she suddenly stepped forward, gently hugged Han Su, and whispered,
“I don’t know what it is we’re facing.”
“But don’t carry everything alone. You’re too exhausted.”
“You know? You actually look pretty good—if you changed gender, you might even pass the preliminary selection for our organization…”
“But in your eyes… there’s no light!”
“……”
After sending Wei Lan off, Han Su looked in the mirror: what light or no light? Whose eyes are supposed to be like lightbulbs anyway?
Clearly, aside from a few extra blood vessels, his eyes didn’t look any different…
And right now, he was clearly full of fighting spirit, okay?
Whether it was some of the hidden nooks and crannies the black cat had led him through last time in the Ancient Castle, or the secret passages he had discovered, countless rescue ideas kept surfacing in his mind.
All of this made him feel an intense sense of anticipation and the urge to take on a challenge.
The Flicker had come countless times, but this was the first time he actually looked forward to returning to the Ancient Castle.
This trip back from the base had only one purpose.
Now, during training, there were no missions to worry about, so all the remaining time was spent meticulously refining the rescue plan in his mind.
There were so many details!
Ever since leaving the Ancient Castle last time, he had been repeatedly reciting the positions of hidden passages and monsters within it.
Beyond making plans, he had even attempted to build a rough layout of the castle in his mind, including all the passageways.
Again and again, he simulated how to avoid the monsters, how to act once he knew their approximate positions, movement patterns, as well as the location and condition of the rescue targets—how to successfully save those children.
Again and again, with more care than ever before, and with a much clearer objective.
Other than not knowing which monster the key would appear on this time, everything else had been figured out.
After rethinking the plan countless times in his mind, Han Su opened his eyes, a trace of fierce resolve flashing through them—
He would save them!
In Qinggang City, even with Zhang Chiguo and Miss Ai’s protection, there were too many uncertainties.
It was Xu Ji and Wei Lan who were truly worth trusting and even entrusting everything to.
Rescuing them meant he could live better in this world.
So, no matter what awaited him in the Ancient Castle this time, he would execute his plan.
Unlike before, when his goal was primarily survival, this time—he was going in to save people!
Thinking this, Han Su sat alone in his apartment, watching the countdown on the Mechanical Fragment. Only a few minutes remained before it reached “0.”
He straightened his posture silently.
……
……
Meanwhile, in a tall building in the center of Qinggang City, the top floor—
a humanoid vessel was slowly opening.
As the dark brown foul liquid inside drained away, even the staff wearing respirators instinctively stepped back.
The liquid’s danger and pungent stench were unbearable; even without smelling it, just looking at it caused a deep psychological discomfort.
But after taking that single step back, they forced themselves to stay put.
Everyone knew the thing inside had a bad temper.
And they also knew that this time, the metamorphosis had gone wrong several times—lengthening the process, and perhaps even failing to achieve the intended result.
Hiss…
When the last of the liquid drained away, the humanoid figure inside remained motionless.
As the staff grew anxious—and a little afraid—the figure’s hand finally lifted slowly.
“Quick, quick…”
The white-coated supervisor grew tense and signaled urgently.
The workers immediately rolled forward a huge cage filled with live chickens, ducks, sheep, and dogs—even a coiled snake.
They placed the cage before the vessel and lowered their heads, trying to calm their pounding hearts.
Hearing the movement of live prey, the figure stirred more, raising one swollen, waterlogged hand to grip the vessel’s edge.
Suddenly, that hand clenched with steel-like strength, and in an instant, the figure lunged straight into the cage.
The workers hastily pulled a black cloth over the cage to block the view from outside.
Inside, there was an eruption of frantic squawking and bleating, accompanied by the heavy stench of fresh blood.
A long time passed before the sounds subsided.
Then came the light tapping of fingers on the bars.
Exchanging uneasy glances, the staff quickly wheeled the cage into the next room—a massive swimming pool.
With a splash, the figure dove into the pool, faint streaks of blood and feathers floating to the surface.
Ten minutes later, a tall, deathly pale man climbed onto the deck.
He was completely naked, his build slender yet proportionate, with a hairless, marble-like perfection to his form.
But the staff froze in shock.
The flawless body had two glaring flaws:
a deep, terrible crack across the chest, faintly oozing blood…
and a damaged right eye, shriveled as though pierced through.
The man ignored their stares and went to stand before a full-length mirror.
Assistants hurried over to wipe his body and dress him in a pure white suit.
Anticipating his baldness, they brought three custom wigs, keeping only a golden one after trying them.
For the ruined eye, they fitted a black eyepatch.
Once the white suit was fastened with a red tie and polished shoes, a snakeskin briefcase was placed in his hand.
He glanced at his reflection with faint approval, then turned toward the staff, speaking hoarsely,
“Thank you, everyone. You’ve worked hard.”
“Is there anything I need to know?”
“……”
They looked to the elderly supervisor, who nodded.
An assistant stepped forward with a file, speaking quietly:
“The Disaster Management Bureau—someone just obtained an Investigator’s license.”
“Song Chu-shi invaded Qinggang once and killed someone…”
“The Queen Organization’s beauty pageant is about to begin in earnest. Recently, they even held a themed banquet at Lilac Courtyard, causing a stir—but no one ed it to the Bureau.”
“Also, Zhang Chiguo came by recently. He suspects… suspects we sent a signal that affected the Nail of the Dead Sea.”
“……”
The man stared at the file, silent, eyes fixed on the photo, the corners of his lips slowly curling into a strange smile.
“So fast…”
“I was only resting for a month, and he took advantage of it this much?”
“Song Chu-shi… heh, this old friend is quick to act.”
The smile filled the room with an invisible dread.
But unexpectedly, he pushed the file aside and his expression went cold.
“I know all of this.”
“And send word to Zhang Chiguo—the Nail of the Dead Sea wasn’t affected by me.
Though my consciousness did jump there briefly, I was blocked and immediately returned to my body.”
“Tell him to investigate who’s really abusing the Bureau’s authority to harm people.”
He carried the snakeskin briefcase over to the floor-to-ceiling windows, gazing down at Qinggang’s endless skyline.
When he opened his eyes again, calmness gave way to boundless madness.
“That time wasn’t me harming anyone. But next time… I can’t make promises.”
“After all, he’s finally stepped out from reality’s protection and entered this circle.”
“Now, nothing I do violates the contract, right?”
The smile grew more deranged.
Suddenly, his face twisted with malice.
“Bring me the Crystal Skull files. Let’s deal with that group of lunatics first!”
……
……
At the same time, in an apartment in Qinggang’s Eastern District—
As the pointer on the Mechanical Fragment finally, painstakingly reached “zero,” Han Su heard the familiar ticking of machinery.
Not only from the Fragment before him—his ears seemed to fill with the phantom sound as well.
At that moment, all his guesses were finally confirmed.
Opening his eyes, they shone with unprecedented resolve.
“Old man, let’s see if you can stop me this time!”
