Invincible Dad-Chapter 513 Wu Ying_1

Chapter 513

Chapter 513: Chapter 513 Wu Ying_1
Xu Lai didn’t speak, halting his steps to look at the cultivator at the pinnacle of the Divine Bridge Realm. The two had never even spoken, yet this man had followed him out of the tavern. Xu Lai refused to believe he didn’t have an ulterior motive.
Of course, with his current Boundary, Xu Lai couldn’t care less about any so-called schemes or machinations. All plots were futile in the face of absolute strength.
The Cloud Dragon Daoist also felt he had been somewhat abrupt. He chuckled and said, "Fellow Daoist, don’t misunderstand. I’ve always loved making friends, so I wanted to offer you some help. After all, Chaotic Burial Town has a registered permanent population of ten million, not to mention all the transients. Moreover, around the Mass Burial Mound where Divine Sense is useless, searching on your own would be like looking for a needle in a haystack."
Xu Lai gave a noncommittal smile and nodded.
The Cloud Dragon Daoist was overjoyed and burst into hearty laughter. "Rest assured, fellow Daoist, there’s no one in Chaotic Burial Town that I can’t find!"
Since Divine Sense was unusable, Xu Lai didn’t bother with a Jade Slip. Instead, he used his Spiritual Energy to conjure an image of his target in the air.
Staring at the woman’s face, the Cloud Dragon Daoist’s brow twitched imperceptibly. He hesitated before asking, "May I know why you are looking for this woman, fellow Daoist?"
"You recognize her," Xu Lai stated, his hands clasped behind his back, a hint of surprise on his face.
"I do not." The Cloud Dragon Daoist shook his head, feigning regret. "Although I have an extensive network, Chaotic Burial Town has a vast population, and I can’t remember everyone. But I will do my best to find her."
Xu Lai gave the Cloud Dragon Daoist a deep look. "Good."
Leaving behind a Sound Transmission Jade Slip, the Cloud Dragon Daoist turned to leave. Xu Lai watched the man’s departing figure with a cold sneer on his face.
His acting is quite good.
However, the instant he saw the woman’s face, the Cloud Dragon Daoist’s heart had skipped a beat—a detail so subtle that a normal person would never have noticed it. But even with his Divine Sense sealed, Xu Lai’s five senses were terrifyingly sharp.
Casually forming a hand seal, Xu Lai followed behind the man. Now, not even a Quasi-Emperor could detect his presence.
The Cloud Dragon Daoist was highly vigilant, constantly looking left and right, yet he failed to see Xu Lai just half a step behind him. The old man made over ten large circles within Chaotic Burial Town and even spent a long while in teahouses and gambling dens.
Three hours later, he staggered out of a tavern, drunk, and casually glanced around. Once certain he wasn’t being followed, he quickly headed in a specific direction.
Half an hour later, the Cloud Dragon Daoist arrived at a small courtyard tucked away in a corner of the town. The courtyard was somewhat dilapidated, with weeds growing along the walls, looking as if it had been uninhabited for a long time. He walked up to the gate and knocked in a rhythmic pattern. The door opened silently, and he quickly stepped inside, only then letting out a sigh of relief.
The Cloud Dragon Daoist walked toward the house. Unlike the dilapidated courtyard, the sole side room was spotlessly clean. A girl of about fifteen or sixteen sat on the floor, deep in breathing meditation.
Upon seeing the Cloud Dragon Daoist, the girl exclaimed excitedly, "Dad, you’re finally back!"
"My daughter." The Cloud Dragon Daoist forced a smile. "Hurry and pack your things. We’re leaving Chaotic Burial Town."
"Leaving?" The girl was taken aback. "Dad, didn’t you say there was a heartbeat near the Mass Burial Mound that could be from an Emperor Realm expert? Didn’t you want to seek out the opportunity?"
Suddenly, the girl broke into a sly smile. "Did you not find any reliable partners? If you ask me, the two of us are more than enough."
The Cloud Dragon Daoist sighed. He had indeed been drinking in the town’s taverns these past few days, hoping to find a reliable cultivator to venture into the Mass Burial Mound with him to test his luck and seek an opportunity. That was the real reason he had stopped Xu Lai to try and befriend him. That heartbeat was related to the Emperor Realm. It was an immense danger, but if he could seize the opportunity, it would also be a heaven-sent fortune!
"Someone is looking for Senior Wu Ying," the Cloud Dragon Daoist said. "It’s a young man, and I can’t see through his cultivation. We must leave quickly."
The girl’s smile vanished, her expression turning grave. "Is he a bad person?"
"Not necessarily, but they’re certainly not here with good intentions." The Cloud Dragon Daoist gently touched his daughter’s head and said softly, "Five years ago, you almost died in the Mass Burial Mound. It was Senior Wu Ying who saved you. We can’t drag her into our troubles."
The girl nodded repeatedly, but soon her eyes began to widen as if she had just seen a ghost.
"What’s wrong, my daughter?" the Cloud Dragon Daoist asked, puzzled.
"Dad, that young man... what did he look like?" the girl’s voice trembled.
"I forget his face, but he was wearing a long white robe." As the Cloud Dragon Daoist spoke, his expression suddenly stiffened. Through the reflection in his daughter’s eyes, he saw a blurry figure standing right behind him.
It was none other than the inscrutable young man!
BOOM!
The Cloud Dragon Daoist’s scalp prickled with terror. Without the slightest hesitation, he threw out a broken sword. The ancient artifact exploded the moment it appeared, creating a terrifying vortex of Spiritual Energy that instantly flattened the house. The blast was comparable to the self-detonation of a pinnacle Divine Bridge Realm expert!
Seizing the opportunity, the Cloud Dragon Daoist had already fled ten miles away with his daughter.
"Dad, who is he?" the pale-faced girl asked from atop his shoulder.
"I don’t know." The Cloud Dragon Daoist spat out a mouthful of blood. Such an instantaneous long-distance escape placed a considerable burden on him.
"Take me to the woman named Wu Ying."
A calm voice suddenly echoed in his ear. As the Cloud Dragon Daoist felt his soul about to leap from his skin in fright, an invisible pressure enveloped him, rendering him completely immobile.
"Venerable... you’re actually in the Venerable Realm," he said bitterly.
Only a Venerable, free to roam heaven and earth, could immobilize a peak Divine Bridge Realm expert. As for those above the Venerable Realm, like a Celestial Venerable or an Immortal Venerable... such beings were beyond the Cloud Dragon Daoist’s wildest imagination.
"You have three breaths to consider. If you don’t speak, I’ll search your soul myself," Xu Lai’s words were devoid of any warmth.
The Cloud Dragon Daoist had intended to die rather than submit, but then he saw that Xu Lai’s outstretched hand wasn’t aimed at his own forehead. It was placed on his daughter Cui Cui’s head.
"Let go of my daughter! If you have the guts, come at me!" The Cloud Dragon Daoist’s eyes nearly split with rage. A high-Boundary cultivator soul-searching a lower-Boundary one could instantly destroy their mind.
"One breath left."
"I’ll talk!" The Cloud Dragon Daoist’s voice was filled with despair. He seemed to age decades in an instant, his already stooped back bending even further. "I’ll take you to her," he said bitterly. "Just let my daughter go."
"Very good." Xu Lai nodded.
「...」
Chaotic Burial Town was vast. Within its jurisdiction were dozens of rolling mountain ranges located in the most remote region, which was also inhabited. These were small villages, home to ordinary folk, somewhat reminiscent of the ancient towns on Earth.
Moss-covered stone steps. Old houses built with beautiful tiles.
At some point, rain had begun to fall. PITTER-PATTER. The drops drummed against the tiles, creating a crisp, pleasant sound. Faint lights flickered throughout the village.
BANG, BANG, BANG.
In the deepest part of the village stood a temple, and someone was knocking on its wooden door. Soon, the door opened to reveal a beautiful woman. Seeing the Cloud Dragon Daoist and the girl called Cui Cui drenched like drowned rats outside, she was momentarily taken aback.
"Cui Cui, what brings you here?"
Cui Cui’s eyes were red and she said nothing, looking as if she had just been crying.
It was the Cloud Dragon Daoist who suddenly shouted, "Senior Wu Ying, run!"
