Invincible Dad-Chapter 514: Senior Sister Yu Guiwan (1)

Chapter 514

Chapter 514: Chapter 514: Senior Sister Yu Guiwan (1)
"Escape? Where can you possibly escape to!"
Xu Lai’s expression was cold and detached as he fixed his gaze on the beautiful lady’s waist, where a medallion hung, bearing a single character.
Yu!
This woman is the target I’m looking for.
"You... you are..."
Wu Ying’s expression changed dramatically. She stumbled back several steps, looking at Xu Lai in disbelief. She clearly hadn’t expected him to find this place. Deep in her eyes, however, there was a hint of relief, as if to say, "You’ve finally arrived."
SWOOSH!
Xu Lai struck out with his palm, showing no mercy. He wanted to search her soul for any information about his Senior Sister.
RUMBLE!
The heavens and earth changed color. What had been a light, continuous drizzle transformed as Xu Lai made his move, and several claps of thunder exploded across the sky.
"Qingfeng, are you trying to kill my disciple?"
An aged sigh echoed through the area.
Xu Lai’s pupils contracted. His palm, just an inch from Wu Ying’s forehead, halted and even began to tremble.
After a hundred thousand years, Xu Lai finally heard the voice that had echoed countless times in his dreams. The only difference was that the voice was no longer as crisp as he remembered; instead, it was laced with a sickly frailty.
But Xu Lai was certain. This voice definitely belonged to his Senior Sister, Yu Guiwan!
"The rain has gotten heavier. Let them... come in," a feeble voice called out from the depths of the temple.
"Yes, Master."
Wu Ying nodded slightly toward the temple’s depths before turning to Xu Lai with a complex expression, wanting to speak but stopping herself. In the end, she uttered only one word, "Please."
SPLASH.
In the pouring rain, Xu Lai lifted his foot to step into the temple, raising and lowering it several times without crossing the threshold. He dared not enter.
Because the most terrifying thing in the world isn’t despair; it’s the despair that comes after hope is shattered.
In the Immortal Domain, a Jade Slip could record not only images but also sounds. So Xu Lai was afraid. He feared that he was too late, that what awaited him was not a living person, but a cold, lifeless Jade Slip.
Plagued by this uncertainty, Xu Lai stood drenched, his clothes soaked and his hair a messy tangle. He was an utterly wretched sight.
Yunlong Daoist and his daughter Cui Cui looked on, bewildered. They didn’t understand why this young man with a formidable Boundary was suddenly acting so strangely. Yunlong Daoist’s keen senses noticed Xu Lai’s slightly trembling body, and he couldn’t help but hesitate.
Could this young man be afraid of something?
"Senior Wu Ying, what’s going on?" Cui Cui asked in a low voice. "Isn’t he an enemy seeking revenge? Why are we letting him in?"
Despite her warm and gentle nature, Wu Ying, whose name sounded quite heroic, shook her head. She offered no explanation and just said softly, "You should come in, too."
Cui Cui, only fifteen or sixteen and with a carefree heart, went straight inside. After much hesitation, Yunlong Daoist followed her.
One breath of time passed.
Then ten.
Then the time it took for an incense stick to burn.
Xu Lai stood before the temple like a stone statue. If not for the faint rise and fall of his chest, one might have thought he was a corpse. Wu Ying stood respectfully by the door, waiting for him to step inside without a single word of prompting.
TAP.
TAP.
TAP.
After an unknown amount of time, the sound of very light footsteps came from the depths of the temple, then faded.
Xu Lai knew the owner of those footsteps was surely watching him. He suppressed his wildly beating heart and took several deep breaths before he finally gathered the courage to slowly look up.
The next second, he couldn’t see anything clearly, for his eyes had filled with a misty haze of tears.
"Senior Sister... is that you?" Standing outside the temple, Xu Lai’s voice was trembling and incredibly hoarse.
At this moment, Xu Lai was not the supreme Great Emperor who could look down upon the Universe and decide the fate of all eras. Instead, he was as vulnerable as a youth on the brink of a mental breakdown.
"Senior Sister... is it truly you?" Xu Lai murmured again, then began to weep loudly in the curtain of rain.
A hundred meters away, inside the temple’s main hall, a white-haired old woman stood leaning against the doorframe. Her back was hunched, and her white hair was piled atop her head. Her wrinkled face bore the deep traces of time.
The old woman gazed at the figure in the rain and couldn’t help but smile. "Qingfeng, why are you still such a crybaby? Come inside."
Xu Lai’s nose stung as he lifted his leaden legs and stepped into the temple. He walked on a path paved with green flagstones, now overgrown with weeds, making his way step by step toward the main hall a hundred meters away.
The journey was short, but for Xu Lai, it took a very long time. How long? As long as a hundred thousand years.
When Xu Lai finally reached the main hall, just a step away from the white-haired old woman, his lips trembled, and his mind went blank. All the words he had fantasized countless times about saying to his Senior Sister, his Master, and his Senior Brothers when he finally found them—he couldn’t utter a single one.
Instead, the old woman reached out and gently embraced him. She squinted her eyes, smiling happily. "Don’t cry, don’t cry. Your Senior Sister is here."
Xu Lai broke down in tears again. He rested his head on the old woman’s shoulder and wept aloud.
Xu Lai cried like a child, while the old woman who was Yu Guiwan smiled joyfully. One was crying, the other was laughing—it was a very strange scene.
"Don’t just stand there crying. We haven’t seen each other for a hundred thousand years. Don’t you have anything you want to say to your Senior Sister?" Yu Guiwan released Xu Lai, her frail voice still gentle as she smiled.
Xu Lai reached out and gently stroked his Senior Sister’s white hair. "Senior Sister, Qingfeng has finally found you."
But as he cried, Xu Lai began to laugh, a foolish, happy grin spreading across his face. He had been searching for a hundred thousand years. He had finally found his lost family!
And Yu Guiwan, who had been smiling all this time, felt her heart constrict when she saw her junior brother’s familiar yet distant smile. Tears rolled uncontrollably from the corners of her eyes. She pounded on Xu Lai’s shoulder, sobbing, "You fool, Qingfeng! Why did it take you so long? You’re too late... much too late..."
Xu Lai’s face stiffened.
His vision swam with blackness as his gaze moved past her into the temple’s main hall. He saw no statues or offerings inside. There were only three black coffins.
CRACK!
A clap of thunder tore through the dark night sky, striking Xu Lai’s heart like a physical blow.
"Master and my two Senior Brothers... how did they... pass away?"
With red-rimmed eyes, Xu Lai walked toward the three coffins. His hands, trembling uncontrollably, landed on their lids, and he finally collapsed to his knees before them.
"Your Second Senior Brother, Song Zhongling." Yu Guiwan pointed to the coffin on the far left, her voice choking. "He died from his old injuries ninety-nine thousand and thirty-seven years ago."
Xu Lai kowtowed, his forehead touching the cold floor.
"Your Third Senior Brother, Qing Qianqiu." She pointed to the coffin on the far right. "He died of old age ninety thousand six hundred years ago. He was in the initial stage of the Divine Bridge and lived for nearly ten thousand years, but sadly, he never managed to step into the Venerable Realm."
Xu Lai kowtowed a second time, his fists clenched tight.
Yu Guiwan looked at the coffin in the center. "The old man... he lived for quite a long time. He passed away with a smile when his time came."
Xu Lai performed his third kowtow.
Kneeling beside him, tears streamed down Yu Guiwan’s face. "Father died eighty thousand years ago. Junior Brother, it was the day after you became a Great Emperor."
