Chapter 1936

Capítulo 1936: Chapter 1936: The Factory Attack Incident
Xu Huo pushed aside his clothes to reveal his sidearm, as a warning.
Unexpectedly, the two exchanged a glance and walked toward them instead.
Facing a disadvantage in numbers, and with people beside him, Xu Huo’s best choice was to avoid the brunt of the confrontation.
Indeed, Xu Huo did just that, shielding the mute girl with his arm and retreating.
The mute girl was also very frightened, nervously clutching his clothing.
Just as Xu Huo was about to run with the mute girl, two more people entered the alley from the other end, clearly recognized by the two from the scarred man’s place.
Out of options, Xu Huo pulled out his sidearm and fired at the feet of the two closest, the laser gun leaving finger-wide, finger-deep holes in the ground, as he shouted, “Step aside, or I’ll call in support from the Supervision Department!”
At this moment, the drone that had been following Xu Huo appeared, its electronic eye clearly demonstrating its recording capability, and based on the inspector’s use of his weapon, it activated firing permissions, with the gun barrels pointing at each side’s people.
“I don’t want any trouble with you, I’m just here to collect her parents’ bodies,” Xu Huo spoke again.
The four who had already stopped turned around and left, not returning to that small courtyard.
Seeing this, Xu Huo let out a big sigh of relief, turning to the mute girl and saying, “It should be fine now.”
After this small incident, both became cautious, even when entering the narrow courtyard, first checking under cabinets and tables and elsewhere, relaxing only when no one was hiding.
The mute girl’s parents were still in the cellar, dead for several days, with the corpses already beginning to stink.
Xu Huo, bearing the smell, pulled the bodies out and said to the mute girl whose eyes were brimming with tears, “It’s not good to move the bodies in broad daylight, let’s just bury them here.”
The mute girl wiped her tears, picked up tools from the courtyard, and began digging.
Xu Huo also helped, but before they had dug the pit deep enough, they uncovered other corpses, more than one, in various stages of decay, both male and female.
Not wanting to know just how many bodies were buried under this courtyard, they covered the earth back up, finally burying the mute girl’s parents in a corner of the yard.
After burying the bodies, the mute girl suddenly pointed to a cabinet against the wall, and Xu Huo cooperatively moved it, watching as she pried open an irregular stone slab, digging out a box from the dirt beneath.
This should be something the scarred man buried; the mute girl explained that she’d seen it before.
Inside the box were a few pieces of well-preserved jewelry and two blackened circular metal pieces, button-sized, each showing signs of wear, one surface having become very smooth, the original engraving unrecognizable, while the other had remnants, but the complete words couldn’t be made out.
“Is this a badge?” Xu Huo had seen in the Supervision Department’s files such tokens used internally by the Resistance Army, badges with words engraved on them, though due to limited resources their badges weren’t made of uniform materials, only all were round with the word “Will” engraved on them.
These were likely the relics of the Resistance Army killed by the scarred man’s gang.
“Do you know of any place that takes things?” Xu Huo asked, “We can pawn these for money to last us for a while.”
The mute girl nodded, taking him to a pawnshop she knew.
The jewelry fetched a significant amount, completely alleviating Xu Huo’s financial pressure, so when leaving the pawnshop he suggested having a good meal.
Although things were found by the mute girl, she didn’t consider herself in control of them, accepting whatever Xu Huo suggested.
The two found a nearby place, ordered some good dishes, and kept eating until night fell; when they settled the bill and were about to leave, they happened upon some limited edition ice cream, and Xu Huo bought two.
The nightclub owner had already entered Knife Boss’s hotel, and the manager from the frozen processing plant with two players in tow, went up to the top floor’s suite.
The rotund manager disliked the setting, unwilling even to sit on Knife Boss’s chairs, until the players accompanying him disinfected and covered them with expensive silk, then he reluctantly took a seat and went straight to the point, “Speak up, I don’t have all day.”
This behavior displeased both the nightclub owner and the accompanying Knife Boss, but the feeling quickly vanished, unable and daring not to show it too obviously in front of the fat manager.
“Manager Dian is straightforward.” The nightclub owner awkwardly complimented, then proposed, “I’d like to acquire some weapons through you.”
If not for the weapons, Manager Dian wouldn’t have come here at all, he peeked at them under his eyelids, “How much are you planning to buy? A small deal isn’t worth my trip.”
The nightclub owner named a figure, but Manager Dian wasn’t satisfied, remaining silent.
Reluctantly, the nightclub owner doubled, then doubled again the original figure, gritting his teeth to reach Manager Dian’s expected terms.
Manager Dian was pleased, contacting someone on the spot to prepare the supplies, promising delivery within three days at the latest.
With the deal sealed, the atmosphere instantly relaxed, Manager Dian preparing to leave, but Knife Boss spoke up, clapping his hands towards the door.
Six women in pairs carried in a young woman wrapped in luxurious silk fabric.
“These three have been raised here from a young age, untouched by any men since the age of five,” Knife Boss grinned at Manager Dian, saying, “They have bathed and scented before coming up, I wonder if they meet Manager Dian’s taste.”
Manager Dian took interest, revealing each before choosing, “I’ll take this one, send her to the factory first.”
Knife Boss signaled for the two women carrying her to withdraw, then looked at the remaining pair, “And these two…”
Manager Dian fondly felt the woman’s smooth skin, smiled, “I’ll take them graciously, prepare a clean room.”
“Additionally,” he pointed to the two players beside him, “these two brothers of mine fancy fair-skinned boys, see to their arrangements.”
“No problem,” Knife Boss agreed without hesitation.
All three parties concluded the meeting quite satisfied.
As for the woman selected, she was immediately sent to the frozen processing plant by Knife Boss’s personnel, but was intercepted halfway by the Resistance Army who swapped drivers, taking her to the factory.
Just when Xu Huo was about to return with the mute girl, there was chaos at the processing plant, starting with shouts and then workers yelling “it’s eating people” and escaping in panic.
Beast-like roars came from within the factory, strange figures soon emerging, having lost their reason, attacking anyone—unsuccessful Evolvers could become man-eating monsters, something not new in the game but catastrophic for ordinary people, especially since these had already killed many before coming out.
Three minutes later, the frozen processing plant’s alarm sounded.
