Volume 6 Chapter 37: Battle Between Giants
The iron octopus's ray shot directly across the sea surface, raising massive waves and billowing steam.
Four ships floated powerlessly on the sea, with the foremost ship echoing the clang of armor hitting the deck.
A dwarf soldier, his legs buckling, fell to his knees on the deck, staring in terror at the imposing giant creature.
Did it miss?
The Dwarf King and the iron octopus locked eyes.
Steam hissed from the octopus, and its heavy head tilted slightly. Both sides were momentarily confused about what had happened.
At that moment, the iron octopus shuddered and suddenly retreated a short distance.
The Dwarf King noticed a large, purple-black hand full of angles gripping the octopus's shoulder.
A sharp sound echoed from the iron octopus, accompanied by the noise of steam and gears turning, as if expressing confusion.
But the large hand didn't give it time.
In the next instant, a tremendous force surged, throwing the iron octopus backward.
The once protector of the nation, Obelisk, was hurled backward by this hand and thrown away!
The octopus tumbled through the air like a giant iron ball, eventually crashing heavily into a cluster of rocks!
Amidst the flying debris and splashing water, a massive black figure appeared before everyone's eyes.
It was a fifteen-meter-tall humanoid giant, clad in purple-black heavy armor. Its long arms were raised, either as fists or claws, and fire burned within the gaps of its helmet, emitting steam.
In the distance, the iron octopus, just thrown away, screeched and climbed up, flailing its limbs as it lunged at the giant, engaging in a fierce struggle.
Magical light glowed at the octopus's core, forming a military-grade strategic spell!
However, just as the beast was about to fire its ray, the humanoid giant grabbed the octopus's tentacle, stopping the attack.
The giant's shoulder-mounted cannon aimed directly at the gathering magical energy.
A powerful flash instantly illuminated the entire underground river.
When the people's vision cleared, they saw an unbelievable scene!
The iron octopus lay limp, a massive iron stake brutally lodged in its core, destroying the component used for firing strategic spells!
The giant's attack didn't stop.
It struck the iron octopus again, then gripped the giant beast tightly with both hands.
What happened next was astonishing!
A fifteen-meter humanoid giant lifted a thirty-meter-long octopus, seemingly overcoming a significant weight difference, and hurled it skyward at an impossible angle!
The octopus crashed into the ceiling of the cave, and, responding to gravity, it fell back into the sea amidst a shower of rubble, metal scraps, and gears.
The iron octopus looked incredibly battered now.
Under a series of successive attacks, its Adamantine shell suffered severe damage, and the magical array enveloping its body flashed with a red warning light indicating damage.
"By Tuvok…what is that?" Even the Dwarf King, who had seen many battles, widened his eyes in astonishment at the scene.
The iron monster, which had just brought despair to the city, had finally been effectively countered!
"That's the Liberty Babie," a voice laughed. The Dwarf King turned to see Chuck standing on the deck.
"Chuck!? What's going on!?"
"That's Walson and little Tanaya's creation. Impressive, isn't it?" Chuck smiled. "Uncle John has some remarkable children."
Chuck paused, then continued.
"Do you have a way to turn the tide, Chuck?"
"There is a way, but we need to act quickly and coordinate with Walson. Trust me, Father, though I was reckless in the past, I've always loved our hoMelond and this country." Chuck said, "Father, we'll talk later. We need to deal with the other rampagers first. I know where to find some untainted Thermodynamic Core. Though limited in number, they should be enough to organize a counterattack. I'll fetch the Thermodynamic Core; you lead these people to the military camp and stand by…"
"…Chuck, you say there are untainted Thermodynamic Core. Where are they?"
"Under the altar, where the offerings for the annual Ore God Festival are stored," Chuck replied. "You know, Father, I was always the priest during the festivals."
Those Thermodynamic Core, offered as part of the festival ritual, were likely old but untainted, meaning they were clean and numerous after years of accumulation.
However, the altar was now the most dangerous place.
Not only were there rampagers, but the battle between the two giant creatures was also dangerously close.
Chuck released his floating iron ball, ready to ride it when his father grabbed his hand.
Chuck turned to look at his father.
In his memory, his father had always been stern and unyielding.
But now, he could see something different in his father's stiff expression and earnest eyes.
"You don't need to risk your life for my mistakes, son," Gur said awkwardly.
He spoke not as a king but as a father, Gur Barlow.
"Father, I am the prince of the dwarves," Chuck said. "Stubbornness is our old habit."
This was the responsibility he, as a prince, should bear, needing no further words.
"I've always been proud of you," the Dwarf King finally released Chuck's hand.
Hearing this, Chuck was stunned. After a few seconds of silence, he smiled. He had waited a long time for those words.
All these years, much of what he did was for that one sentence.
"Thanks, Dad. I'm honored to be your son."
