Magical Girl with Demonic Time Magic-Chapter 74: Medical Wing

Chapter 74

Chapter 74: Medical Wing
I quickly rush to the medical area at the magical girls’ base, as I heard that Setsuna is here.
"..." I quickly open the door, making the two girls in the room look at me as I see Setsuna lying on a bed, sleeping.
"Hello, Ayane, how are you?" Ophelia asks me, moving her wheelchair closer, while the other girl just checks the machines in the room and leaves through the door, passing by me in silence.
"O-Ophelia, how is Setsuna?" I ask nervously. Everything went well at school, with a lot of conversation, I was able to reduce the students’ confusion to a minimum, and I was told that the other magical girls defeated the monster that was using mind control.
Everything seemed perfect, until they told me that Setsuna was not there, and a large hole was found in the administration room. With all this, time seemed chaotic, and 2 hours later they found Setsuna on the other side of the city, unconscious in a pile of rubble and her own blood.
As soon as I was informed, I ran straight here to the magical girls’ base, and now I see Setsuna sleeping in the bed in the medical ward.
"Setsuna is fine, she lost a lot of blood and has some minor fractures and cracks in some bones, but she is recovering well and will be completely healed in two days," Ophelia says with a small smile, as immediate relief hits me.
"Thank God... I was so worried," I murmur with my heart racing from running too much.
"Ophelia, what happened? Why did she end up like this?" I ask after the relief. It doesn’t make sense for her to have been injured so seriously, the other girls said the monster was strong, but not absurdly strong to the point that Setsuna would have so many problems.
Moreover, Setsuna was found on the other side of the city, it’s impossible for it to have been the same monster.
"...We’re not entirely sure, all we know is that Setsuna probably encountered a Calamity Class monster and somehow managed to get away from it at the school. Probably she was hit by it and thrown to the other side of the city while it followed her."
"!!!" I’m shocked by this.
"H-How?"
"Some magical girls analyzed the scene, the debris of the buildings, the location of the fight, and finally the amount of time it took for each damage."
"From this, we can deduce that Setsuna was removed from the school to the other side of the city in an interval of 3 to 20 seconds, and the fight between her and the monster resumed 40 seconds later."
"That is, in less than 1 minute, Setsuna was removed from the school and began a fight with a monster, and only a Calamity Class monster can move so abnormally from one point to another."
"Besides the unnatural damages to the building structures, did you know that there are no traces of any monster?" She speaks, even though I have no idea what happened.
"All the destruction made in the area where we found Setsuna unconscious was done by her body being thrown around like a toy from one side to the other, there is not the slightest evidence of attacks from another party."
"This shows a clear sign that the monster left no traces of itself at the site, which is consistent with the modus operandi of the Calamity Class monsters that have already been cataloged in the base’s information system."
"..." I’m shocked, Setsuna risked so much, and all I did was walk around the school gymnasium.
"Don’t feel discouraged, Ayane. Even if 30 magical girls were together, they wouldn’t have won against that. Setsuna surviving was a miracle, she lost a lot of blood and we found some serious injuries on her body."
"Only the strongest magical girls at the base could have been of any help in that situation. Besides, we need Setsuna to wake up to give a more accurate on the monster in question."
"We don’t know much beyond its class," Ophelia says, a little disappointed.
"So you’re here to collect a when Setsuna wakes up?" I ask with doubt.
"No, I’m here because I’m worried about her. Encountering a Calamity Class monster is not at all healthy for the mind."
"Even if Setsuna wasn’t raped, it would be no surprise if she was left with a broken mind," Ophelia speaks as if it were routine.
"W-What?!" I’m completely nervous with this incomplete explanation.
"Ayane, monsters of this class are a literal calamity. Just their murderous intent is something harmful and difficult to overcome. We’re talking about a monster that can destroy cities."
"Seeing such a thing in front of you is usually not very good for anyone’s mental health. We’ve had other cases of girls who survived monsters of this class, but were completely crazy or too unstable."
"..."
"Think of sanity as a meter. Seeing dead people, seeing people tortured, being raped reduces this sanity meter to some degree, but encountering a Calamity Class monster can make the meter zero out all at once, do you understand?"
"Yes..." My concern returns again. Will Setsuna be okay when she wakes up?
"I-Is there anything I can do to help her?" I say with a voice full of concern.
"No, we can only wait for her to wake up and see if the damage was too great or not. With luck, nothing will happen to her besides a certain extra fear of high-level monsters," Ophelia says, looking at Setsuna’s calm face.
"But Setsuna is lucky," When Ophelia says this, I’m confused.
"What do you mean?"
"We have data on Setsuna, and it’s no surprise that she has a medical condition that reduces what she feels, and this works in everything. Thanks to this condition, there is a real possibility that she will come out without any mental sequelae."
"I’d say there’s about a 70% chance she’ll be completely fine," Ophelia speaks optimistically, but this doesn’t calm me down at all. It’s even a bit annoying, it’s like she’s saying that Setsuna having a problem is a good thing.
’That’s not a cool thing to say.’ It’s like telling someone, "Thanks to you being blind, you weren’t affected by the brightness of a flashbang grenade." There’s literally nothing good about it.
’At least she’s safe.’ I approach the bed, seeing how she sleeps peacefully.
"Since you’re here, I’ll go out for a while. If anything, just click that red button," Ophelia says as she moves her wheelchair out of the room.
I hold Setsuna’s hand, kneeling in front of the bed and squeezing it tightly as a confirmation that she’s here.
"You’re an incredible heroine, you know?" I say with a huge smile, trying to be positive. Thanks to her plans, everything turned out well without too many problems, apart from the destruction in the administration room.
Everyone at school forgot many things, but since I wasn’t in magical girl uniform, no one forgot that I was helping everyone to calm down. Before I left the school, an administration member said I would receive a Medal of Honor.
Because what I did was good. I kept calm, calmed other students, and helped maintain order. For everyone, what happened was an accident with the school’s electrical system that caused a small explosion.
So no one remembers or has the slightest notion of reality. Everything was resolved without deaths and with few injuries.
But no one will remember all of Setsuna’s efforts, except for the magical girls who know about it. It’s a bit sad that Setsuna won’t be recognized like all the others who helped.
’I feel stronger.’ I think this counts as a good deed to increase the Divine power that will make me an angel in the future. I feel stronger now after all this complication.
"...Holding so tight hurts," I hear a somewhat cold and hoarse voice, but one I recognize well, and I look at Setsuna’s face, who watches me with a small smile.
"S-Setsuna!!"
"Don’t yell, please... I’m all sore," She speaks with a hoarse and somewhat broken voice, showing that it’s not so easy to speak now.
"O-Okay," I speak more softly while I’m happy she’s awake.
"H-How do you feel? Are you okay? Are you crazy?"
"Crazy? Hahaha, I think I’m fine apart from some physical pain," Setsuna speaks without understanding. She really seems fine without any apparent mental sequelae.
"I have so much to tell you! But first, the others want to know what happened to you too," I say hurriedly.
"...I won’t say anything. Tell them I don’t want to talk about this matter... and don’t call anyone yet, I want to rest without much... interruption," She pauses for a moment, as if thinking of the word before saying "interruption."
"W-Why?" I ask, not understanding why she wants to hide.
"I feel more comfortable leaving this behind... I’m glad you’re okay," She changes the subject with a soft smile.
"Yes, your plans were very good, and thanks to them, we reduced the damage to the maximum!" I say in a more cheerful tone.
"That’s good..." Setsuna says only that, as if she hadn’t done anything extraordinary, when she actually saved many people.
"Do you think I’ll get a medical certificate for absences?" Setsuna asks in a tone that’s a mix of something serious and a joke.
"Pfff hahaha, you’re terrible at jokes," I say with a gentle laugh.
"Yes, I know... I’m someone without charm."
"Don’t be too hard on yourself, you need to rest. The school has already been informed, for everyone you were near the explosion, were affected, and sent to the hospital, so you’ll have 2 to 4 days off," I say, explaining to her that she should stop talking and close her eyes.
"I want to sleep, you can stay, but don’t say anything, okay? I’m... very tired, and my lungs hurt when I talk too much..." She speaks with an even more hoarse voice.
"Oh, yes, sorry for talking too much, you’re right, you need to recover. I’ll be quiet," I say, getting up and going to sit in a chair. I’ll stay here for a while before going home.
’What a difficult and crazy day... I’m glad everything turned out well and that, thank God and Setsuna, nothing too big happened.’ It’s really great to have a brave heroine like Setsuna as my friend. She inspires me to be better.
