Chapter 73: The Black Hero
"You know, magic girl, could you introduce yourself? I’m the Black Hero, and you, what would be the name of a beautiful maiden like you?" He speaks in an almost archaic and somewhat mocking tone.
"...Why should I introduce myself when I barely know you?" I decide to keep the conversation going, the more we stall, the better, I also prepare for the fight.
"You’re right, beautiful maiden," He says, and in an instant, he appears in front of me with a upward cut that I defend with the hunting knife, I end up being thrown with extreme violence upwards, breaking through the walls and floors of the building and stopping at its ceiling.
I get up quickly, already seeing him up here, he looks at me with a strange surprise.
"Wow, you actually defended yourself? What a scary girl to be able to predict me like that," He immediately recognizes how I defended the blow.
I am weaker, slower, and obviously less resistant, so the only way for me to defend is if I predict where he will attack and defend that spot before the attack happens, and that’s what I did.
Since he had his sword lowered, I judged that it was easier to attack either with a lateral cut or with a vertical one from bottom to top, if it was lateral, I would defend with the sniper.
I don’t know how resistant my weapons are, but when I tried to break them in a training, I couldn’t even scratch them, so I judged that they are ridiculously resistant.
’I managed to defend one, and my arm almost broke,’ I didn’t even receive the full impact because I redirected the knife blade, the attacks are very strong.
"...Now that I think about it, why the hell do you have three weapons?" He questions, tilting his head to the side while his eyes stare at me analytically.
’...’ It’s obvious that I can’t hide this, he’s too strong and I’ll need everything I have to fight him, even if the everything is revealing my 3 weapons.
"Hahahaha you’re an interesting girl without a name, how long has it been since I’ve seen someone this interesting?" He speaks with amusement in his voice as I prepare, analyzing how he holds the sword and moves his legs.
In a normal fight, observing these two things would not guarantee that I could predict what the enemy would do, but in this case, it changes because his movement in my vision is basically instantaneous and doesn’t change.
Of course, it doesn’t change because he’s playing with me, with his speed I don’t doubt that he saw me moving my hand down and still struck.
"Why are you called the Black Hero?" I ask, trying to buy time while I prepare.
"Are you curious about me? Maybe if you survive, I can tell you more about myself in the future," He says as I make the Sniper appear in front of me, the sniper receives a kick that pushes me and throws me off the building down below with force.
I fall to the ground feeling immense pain, even though the weapon took the blow, the impact was still huge, I force myself to get up and he’s already here.
’As long as he keeps playing, I have a chance to get out alive,’ With this speed, killing me would be easy, it’s a good thing he doesn’t see me as an enemy that needs to be killed immediately.
"You’re good, now in addition to ignoring my murderous intent, you can even predict me, are you some hidden talent of the magic girls?" He questions with interest, appearing in front of me and hitting me with a punch in the face before I can predict it.
I am thrown against a building while my nose bleeds, I almost passed out with a single blow that he obviously held back, it’s ridiculous how weak I still am.
I get up from the rubble, looking at him as he enters the building, fortunately the surrounding area of the city is known to have hundreds to thousands of abandoned buildings because the population is smaller than in the past.
Fighting people here would interfere with everything, although us fighting here was pure chance since the weapon threw me far away due to the force of the shot.
’My vision is blurred and dizzy,’ Clear signs of almost losing consciousness due to the force of the blow.
"Hmm, you’re still conscious? That’s good, where’s the fun in beating up those who are passed out, right?" He speaks in a sadistic tone, making it clear that he’s enjoying my attempts to survive.
Bang, Bang, Bang.
I shoot at him with the pistol, but as expected, nothing happens, he’s too resistant for me to hurt him with the pistol.
"I guess we can finish this, huh?" He speaks in a false pitying tone, as if what was once fun has now become embarrassing and pitiful.
He advances as I use the sniper as a shield, it receives a direct blow that throws me against several buildings, the pain increasing along with the injuries on my body, nothing broken yet I think, but small accumulated damages that together form serious problems.
’My vision is too blurred...but I need to get up,’ I get up shakily, holding on to a part of a building as support, while he’s already here in front of me, his big eye very close to my face.
"You may be quite resilient and determined, but you’re weak, and determination without strength is just trash," He speaks insultingly as he kicks my chin, throwing me against the rocks.
’I can’t get up...’ My arms, legs, back, and the rest of my torso hurt, I was violently thrown against many places almost in succession, and the impacts of his blows are very strong.
"Ugh," I let out a sound of pain as he steps on my stomach.
"It’s lamentable, in the end, talent only serves if well used, at least you showed me something fun, so I’ll kill you in an equally fun way," He says, touching his sword above my chest.
"I guess this is goodbye, nameless beautiful maiden," He speaks as he starts to slowly insert the sword, it goes through my chest until it hits my heart, piercing it until it goes through my back and hits the rocks behind me.
Soon he rotates the sword, increasing the wound and making a large circular hole instead of a simple puncture that could be staunched, as he pulls out the blood-stained sword.
"Even as a magic girl, you can’t survive having your heart pierced and destroyed, there are no strong healing magic girls strong enough to heal this wound at once, and even if there were, no one will find you in time in this isolated place."
"Have a good rest, nameless beautiful maiden, it was fun," He says, disappearing completely as my eyes see everything blurred, the blood flowing from the wound and staining the rocks below, while blood flows from my mouth.
"..." I can’t move, it hurts a little, but the pain throughout my body helps me not to pay too much attention to the pain in my heart, it’s cold, but also hot.
"Meow...you survived, hihihihi," Hexael appears on the rock next to me, chuckling while looking at the wound.
"..."
"Don’t worry, Setsuna, that monster was stupid not to cut off your head, this wound won’t kill you, look closely at your heart," Hexael says as I make an effort to move my neck and see.
What I see is the wound trying to close, it’s strange and even a bit grotesque as the flesh moves, trying to cover and restore the hole.
"Wh...at did...you do...to me..." I say, feeling a certain disgust at my own body and this somewhat grotesque healing.
"I didn’t do anything, it’s just one of the many benefits of your very special body, your body has great resilience and self-healing ability, as long as it’s not an enormous amount of fatal wounds or decapitation, it’s harder to kill you than it seems," Hexael speaks with malice.
"I’m glad your regeneration is finally showing signs of activity, that fool the Black Hero didn’t even bother to confirm your death, what a stupid monster hahahaha," Hexael laughs at the monster who literally almost killed me.
"Ayane...how is she?" I say with a hoarse voice and a little blood in my mouth, the taste of iron and dust is unpleasant.
"She’s fine, other magic girls are fighting the mind control monster, and they’ll soon win."
"No, no, no, stay still there," He says, jumping on my stomach when I try to move, even though jumping on my body increases my pain a lot, making me cough up blood.
"They don’t need you, and you can’t move, you have 49 cracked or slightly fractured bones, 2 broken ribs, and a very serious laceration in your heart, you’re lucky to have a lot less broken things than I thought you would."
"In a few minutes, the wound in your heart will close, but the rest will remain as is because you’re just now showing regeneration, basically your regeneration is weak and will only heal the dangerous wound."
"So you need help, but Ayane and the others should come help you in about half an hour when they notice you’re not there."
"You may not be at real risk of dying, but you’re also not fit to walk or try to fight, if you try to move, you can further injure your body, and let’s face it, that would be a terrible choice."
"I didn’t say you’re immortal, I just said it’s harder to kill you than other magic girls, if you try to go walk and some complication happens and you die, wouldn’t that be terrible?" He questions in an arrogant tone.
"..." I just give up on moving, the ground of broken rocks is uncomfortable, but I think it’s better to stay still, if Ayane is safe, that’s all that matters.
’I need to get stronger before I run into another aberration like that,’ He just played with me, and even so, I literally ran more risks than at any other time since I came back.
But this is strangely good for me, it shows that if I don’t get stronger, I will fail to protect Ayane, it clearly shows that I need more strength if I want to protect Ayane and her happiness.
’I’m glad everything turned out well for now...’ I think before closing my eyes and passing out from exhaustion, the relief making me lose the last of the strength I tried to hold on to and use.
