Master, What Dao Do You Cultivate?-Chapter 23: Cultivation Always Happens in the Late Night

Chapter 23

Ji Qinglin didn’t want to waste a single moment. After searching for so long, he had finally stumbled upon some clues related to his resurrection—possibly even connected to his phone.
To be safe, he first returned to the General Store to grab his toolkit and a stun gun for self-defense, as well as Coal Boss, who hadn’t been outside for a long time. With one person and two birds, they headed toward Old Town in Xindong District.
Old Town on Xindong Street was part of an old urban development project. Later, due to the collapse of a major corporation, the project was abandoned, leaving the old district undeveloped.
However, since it was close to the wilderness, it became home to those who couldn’t make it into Bangkok City for a better life. Although underdeveloped, it was too poor to attract the attention of gangs or corporations, making it a relatively peaceful place.
After taking the bus to the city’s edge, Ji Qinglin followed the marked location on his map. Along the way, he passed many old, dilapidated houses, yet the area was still densely populated.
Sang Feng’s courtyard was near the outskirts, with no neighbors around.
Looking through the tightly shut iron mesh gate, he could see piles of garbage in the yard. Perched on his shoulder, Coal Boss was the first to fly inside and take a look around.
"Ga-ga——"
Looks like no one’s here.
The side door showed signs of recent use.
Ji Qinglin unlocked the iron gate—built more for keeping honest people out than actual security—and stepped into the courtyard. Aside from the main house and west wing, there was also a makeshift rain shelter on the east side, though its pillars were already rusted.
Instead of rushing to search, Ji Qinglin decided to get a general understanding of the area first. He headed toward the nearest wing room, tearing off an advertisement poster that had been stuck on the window, revealing a battered brass lock and a heavy iron chain underneath.
What kind of treasure was inside that needed such tight security?
After forcing the lock open, Ji Qinglin kicked the door wide open, while Coal Boss flapped his wings, shaking off the dust that had fallen from the ceiling.
But upon entering, he found that the room only contained an old wooden bed and a simple office desk.
"Well, Sang Feng really didn’t die in vain. If this was all he had to lock up, he must have been an extreme miser."
Then again, something didn’t seem right. Ji Qinglin quickly searched the room.
Coal Boss landed on the bed and pecked at it with his beak.
"Thud, thud, thud——"
It’s hollow!
Ji Qinglin lifted one corner of the bedboard with force, then shone his flashlight inside to check.
Under the dim light, he saw something black and round.
"This is...?"
With a sudden realization, Ji Qinglin flipped the entire wooden bedboard over.
A fully black frame, its carbon fiber components shimmering under the light like smooth, flawless skin. Under the beam of his flashlight, every inch of its mechanical beauty was on full display—two sleek black wheels, front 17-inch, rear 15-inch.
Between the two black wheels lay the most mysterious and prized component of any motorcycle—a modified V-twin engine, completely unused.
Even without much knowledge of Bangkok’s high-end motorcycle scene, Ji Qinglin instantly recognized this bike’s name.
Night Owl 750!
The Dark Knight of the motorcycle world.
Even someone like him, who didn’t care much for bikes, felt a surge of excitement. For a motorcycle enthusiast, seeing this would probably be no different from seeing a goddess in the nude.
Sang Feng, that bastard, had indeed prepared an escape vehicle. He might have been an unimpressive guy, but at least he had good taste.
After taking Yu Ye as his disciple, Ji Qinglin had been lacking a mode of transportation. This was truly a blessing in disguise.
After thoroughly checking the room to make sure nothing was overlooked, Ji Qinglin covered the bike back up. Even Sang Feng had understood the importance of keeping wealth hidden.
After locking up the room, Ji Qinglin moved on to the main house. Judging by the dust and garbage on the floor, it had been abandoned for a long time. The layout was simple—a bedroom and a living room.
Scanning the area, Ji Qinglin approached a large pod-like planter and examined it closely. Just as he suspected—it was identical to the pod that had once contained him.
However, with Sang Feng dead, there was no way to confirm where it came from.
Back then, he and Shen Bixin had investigated Sang Feng’s background. The guy had originally snuck into the country—he wasn’t some trash collector, so this place was most likely his backup safe house.
With that thought, Ji Qinglin walked over to the bookshelf and randomly pulled out a few dusty papers.
"Cultivation Always Happens in the Late Night"
"Yin-Yang Harmony Positions Guide"...
"Hiss..."
That bastard Sang Feng had quite the collection of resources.
But upon checking the dates, Ji Qinglin realized these were all years-old posters and books.
Looking at the full bookshelf, Ji Qinglin figured it would take some time to sift through everything.
Since he was claiming this place for himself, he decided to clean it up first to make the search easier. He cleared out the trash, piling it under the rain shelter for later disposal.
Meanwhile, Coal Boss perched on the roof, flirting with passing birds.
After an afternoon of cleaning, the house was barely livable.
"Phew, should’ve waited for Yu Ye to recover and made her do this."
Saying that, he carried a stack of materials over to the old sofa, sitting down to sort through them.
"Campus Springtime"
"Dao Companion’s Thirteen Stockings"...
Most of it was old advertisements and adult magazines.
This place was starting to feel more and more like a hardcore otaku’s den.
Good thing he hadn’t brought Yu Ye along. His dignified master image would have been completely ruined.
Ji Qinglin flipped through the materials carefully, making sure not to miss anything important.
But after going through a considerable amount, he still found nothing useful. Just as he was about to take a break and head out for food, he opened a book called "Harmonious Zen Sect Secrets"—and suddenly, a thin booklet slipped out.
It had no cover, the yellowed pages were so brittle that bits crumbled off when it hit the floor. Clearly, it was much older than the rest of the collection.
Ji Qinglin didn’t dare pick it up directly. Instead, he carefully flipped through it on the floor.
The printing was crude, but on the outermost layer, he could barely make out the words "User Manual".
Turning to the next page, a small illustration made Ji Qinglin’s heart tighten.
Because the image looked eerily similar to the interface he had never been able to access on his phone.
Though the size and layout were different, it was clearly from the same type of device.
Excited, Ji Qinglin tried to read further, but the rest of the pages only contained different angles of the same interface.
Just when he thought it was another dead end, he flipped to the final page and saw four words:
"Reset Method"
The instructions stated:
To reset, the owner must draw a Taiji symbol on their right palm using their own blood.
With nothing to lose, Ji Qinglin took out his knife, cut his finger, and drew a simple Taiji symbol on his palm.
At first, nothing happened.
Then, the blood-drawn symbol was suddenly absorbed into his right palm.
His previously dark palm began to glow, revealing an ancient-looking holographic interface, displaying a line of text:
"Reset complete. Please enter a new password."
Eager to see what was inside, Ji Qinglin thought, "I’ll just set a random one for now."
A new line of text appeared:
"Password successfully set to: 'I’ll just set a random one for now'."
(╬Ò‸Ó)?
At first, he was stunned.
But then, realizing that the device was linked to his mind, he figured mental input must work.
After re-entering the password, the background "Dao Heart Forever Steady" became clear, along with four app-like icons:
"Connections Across Miles," "Cloud Storage Qi Sea," "Divine Perception," and "Beidou Maps."
