Master, What Dao Do You Cultivate?-Chapter 24: Worried About Your Bird

Chapter 24

This "phone"—could it be a Cultivation tool from the Old Era?
Then what exactly happened back in the Old Era? If it was so powerful, why was there a historical gap?
Having already witnessed the phone's self-defense mechanism before, Ji Qinglin figured its features must be just as extraordinary.
With that in mind, he opened "Connections Across Miles" first. Its icon depicted several small human heads linked together.
However, since the phone had just been reset, there were no contacts inside.
The second option, "Cloud Storage Qi Sea", had an icon of a small figure raising both hands toward the sky, reminiscent of Goku gathering a Spirit Bomb in
Dragon Ball
. But this feature required registration, so Ji Qinglin backed out and moved on to "Divine Perception".
The icon displayed a sharp yet gentle-looking eye—
Wait a minute.
That’s… my eye?
Opening it confirmed his suspicion. "Divine Perception" seemed to function as a camera, with its perspective linked to his own eyes.
But unlike a regular camera with modes like "Pro," "Portrait," "Plants," and "Video", the options here were:
"Dao Recognition," "Face Reading," "Soul Hooking," and "Stargazing."
The last three options were grayed out, meaning they were currently unavailable—he could only use "Dao Recognition".
Testing it out, Ji Qinglin took a few scans around the room. Soon, a small notification appeared on the interface:
"Sorry, no learnable content detected."
So, Dao Recognition meant learning? Since the background read "Dao Heart Forever Steady," the learnable content was likely cultivation techniques. He would need to scan someone actually using a technique to test it properly.
Finally, Ji Qinglin opened "Beidou Maps", which had a Beidou constellation icon.
But the screen was completely blank.
"Please scan to input map data."
D*mn, I have to map it myself?
Curious, Ji Qinglin looked around the room, and as he did, the Beidou Maps interface gradually generated a partial floor plan of the house.
The mapping speed was fast, but he wasn’t sure what practical use this feature had.
To test it, he marked the courtyard gate he had just scanned. As soon as the thought "Go" formed in his mind, a route appeared on the map.
Before he could fully process it, his feet moved on their own—three steps merged into two as he effortlessly glided to the door, kicked off the step, and flipped over, landing precisely at the marked location in the courtyard.
"Hiss… this thing is interesting."
He didn’t feel like he had lost control of his body, but the movement was unnaturally fluid—as if he had activated some assistance system. It was still his own control, but without any resistance, like driving a car with enhanced autopilot.
Four words surfaced in Ji Qinglin’s mind:
"Wind Walker Rides the Void."
But thinking back, his movements were too simple, so it probably wasn’t that. The Beidou Maps interface displayed different movement categories:
Right now, it was set to "Intelligent Selection." There were three other modes: "Physical," "Technique," and "Mental."
Mental too? That would mean moving with a single thought, like a true immortal… or would it just send his soul flying out while his body collapsed?
Since he hadn’t learned any techniques yet, the last two options were grayed out, leaving only physical movement available.
But what if the map changed?
To test it, Ji Qinglin placed a chair in the courtyard and scattered some mechanical junk near the gate.
This time, without updating the map, he followed the same route again—yet his movements automatically adjusted. He stepped over the chair, maneuvered between the junk with effortless precision, and finally leapt into the house without touching any obstacles.
The movement was simple, but completely instinctive. Clearly, Beidou Maps had an auto-avoidance function.
If it worked on objects, it would definitely work on people too. Combined with movement techniques, this could be a great escape tool.
However, his body was different from an average Qi Refiner—he might need to use Divine Perception to properly learn techniques.
After this simple round of tests, Ji Qinglin felt relieved. He was glad he hadn’t removed this strange "phone" from his body back then.
Having spent the entire afternoon cleaning and experimenting, hunger was starting to creep in. Ji Qinglin carefully tucked the booklet between some books for safekeeping, then set off to find some food.
Even though Old Town on Xindong Street was half a slum, its lively atmosphere was undeniable. The aroma of dinner mixed with the warm glow of streetlights, making the worn-down streets feel full of life. Many streetlights were broken, yet children still ran around, playing joyfully.
Aside from food, Ji Qinglin also bought some daily necessities from a nearby store. He figured he’d be staying here for the next few days to continue searching and experimenting.
It wasn’t just about checking the materials—these four features alone were worth studying thoroughly.
By the time he finished eating and cleaning up the bedroom, Ji Qinglin finally noticed that Yu Ye had called him five times.
I’ve only been gone for a day, right?
Good thing I wasn’t actually in seclusion. Otherwise, I’d end up possessed by demons at this rate.
Sighing, he dialed a holographic video call.
On the other end, Yu Ye looked much better than when he had left. Her complexion was rosier, but her brows were slightly furrowed, and she was biting her lip, looking a little anxious.
"What's wrong, Yu Ye?"
"Master, Coal Boss is missing!"
"Ga?"
Seated at the table, happily pecking at his takeout fried rice, Coal Boss turned his head and flapped his wings as if saying, "I’m right here."
"You took Coal Boss with you?"
"It hadn't been outside in a while. I brought it along for some fresh air."
"
Phew...
You could’ve at least said something. I thought someone kidnapped it!"
Someone breaking into the heavily secured Ji Family General Store just to steal a crow? They might as well buy a chicken instead.
"Aren’t you supposed to be at Bixin Hall?"
"Disciple can move freely now, so I came back to check on things."
"Check on things? You were afraid I'd pack up and disappear?"
"Of course not, Disciple was just worried that Master was alone in seclusion with no one to take care of you."
"It’s enough that you have the thought. Just focus on cultivating your foundational techniques. I'll be here for a while, so don’t disturb me unnecessarily."
Seeing that Master was indeed inside a house and not disposing of a corpse somewhere, Yu Ye finally relaxed.
"Disciple understands. Also, President Lei Qiong said he’ll be sending a Transmission Disciple in a few days to teach me the fundamentals."
"Having a guide is good, but never let your guard down. Your information is recorded in the General Store’s security system. Unless it’s a Sect Leader or a Grandmaster, as long as you stay inside, the store’s defenses will keep you safe."
"Yes, Master."
So this heartless Master, who left me all alone, not even sparing me a bird, actually cares about my safety?
After hanging up, Yu Ye sat behind the store counter, spacing out for a moment.
They had only been together for four days, yet this unpredictable Master was truly impossible to figure out.
Before, he said he didn’t trust her. Now, he upgraded her meridians and handed over the entire store to her.
Wait… was he still mad about that day? So he dumped everything on her out of spite? But judging from his tone just now, maybe not…
Mad Ye:
Thinking about him?
Yu Ye:
Hm? No, just wondering where he went.
Mad Ye:
I know.
Yu Ye:
Huh?
Mad Ye:
He’s in your heart.
Yu Ye:
Ugh, you’re even slimier than that pervy Sang Feng.
Mad Ye:
If he joins us, would that count as a double explosion…?
Yu Ye:
Shut up.
