Chapter 351: He Came .... But Not Alone
(Author’s POV)
*Ding Dong Ding*
"Good evening, ladies and gentlemen, VistaLux Airlines’ flight VLX007 is now beginning its descent into Esteria. We expect to land in approximately fourteen minutes. The local time in Esteria is nine twenty two p.m., and the skies are clear with bright stars, with a temperature of 28°C," the pilot’s announcement echoed from the speakers.
Brave sighed heavily when he heard the announcement and then gazed outside the window to see a dense urban landscape illuminated by countless golden and white lights, highlighting the street grids and numerous buildings. "You should have stayed in Kimberg. I don’t want you to get entangled in the mess here," he mumbled softly, almost inaudibly, not wanting the person sitting behind him to hear.
"I heard that, you know. And~ ... no way.... I was going to stay there after watching the horrific news. How could I have sent you alone to deal with the chaos? I am ready to help in any way possible," the person said with a pouty mouth.
"Don’t be stubborn. You were persistent in coming here, so I relented. But~ .... After we get out of the airport, you~ .... will be going to the hotel, and I will be going to the crash site. I have arranged for the vehicle in advance," Brave declared authoritatively.
"But, B~...." The person tried to protest, but Brave cut them off midway, "No buts. Your safety is my topmost priority. So, I won’t be taking no for an answer. It is already decided. If you have anything else to say, you can, but not on this topic." He set his foot down on the matter, not willing to concede.
The person pouted and looked out of the window.

"Ohh~ ... I forgot to tell you about the poor reception here. And~ .... you can’t book any kind of cab from this place," Dion told Myra. Though he sounded genuinely regretful, Myra could tell at a glance that he was just toying with her.
She scoffed internally, clenching her fists tightly, her nails digging into her palms, but she knew she needed to stay calm and alert. So, she asked, "This place? Where is this place, Mr. Everests? Where are we exactly?"
He got up from the bed and walked towards the window to undraw the curtains. A cool and gentle night breeze nestled inside the room, making Myra’s body tingle, as Dion informed, "Where are we~ .... Hmmm? We are~ .... We are in a small town area of Hensenhaven."
"Hensenhaven?" Myra mumbled, her eyes widening as she stared at Dion with a dumbstruck face.
’We are in Hensenhaven? That far? Fucking jerk. He brought me here on purpose,’ She started calculating in her mind how much time it would take her to get to Esteria, and an obvious gloom clouded her expression. ’Shit~ .... I should have kept my emotions in check, just like always, and nothing like my crying or my fainting spell would have happened. Myra~ .... Ohh~ .... Myra, you really fell into a trap this time.’ Myra’s inner voice was at full swing.
"Ummhmm~ .... By the way, isn’t this place beautiful? See, the entire sea is visible from here in its full glory. Don’t you agree with me?" Dion chimed as he glanced at the waning gibbous, brightly lit moon reflected by the vast blues spread ahead of them. The picturesque scenery was breathtaking, even Myra was stunned to see the allure of it.
Dion then turned towards Myra and added, "A perfect place to rest and relax." He ended his words with an expectant smile, his eyes forming an antonym of the moon, a crescent. He walked back to Myra and said, "I guess you are stuck here with me for a while."
Myra stared at him once again, her mind racing. All of a sudden, an idea struck her as she muttered, "So~ .... You are saying, it can’t be helped?"
"Ummhmm~," Dion nodded like a child.
"Then, that’s that," Myra feigned compliance.
Hearing her words, Dion couldn’t help but feel giddy inside. He and Drey can finally have some alone time with Myra. The thought of it was so exhilarating for him that he couldn’t help but blush. He has waited for this for a very long time.
Then Myra added, her voice was filled with guilt, "But I have to inform my family about my extended stay. They must be worried sick about my disappearance. I need to give them a call right now. What do I do?"
Dion pursed his lips and then walked straight out of the room without saying anything. Myra was left dumbfounded by his lack of reaction, ’Did he just leave like that? Is he trying to pull out a trick he had up his sleeves?’ Myra was about to get out of bed and check, but after three or four minutes, he came back inside and handed her a wireless landline, "Here you go. Make your call to your folks. Hmm~"
’Cunning wolf in human clothing,’ Myra thought as she grabbed the phone from his hand. She waited for him to leave the room and give her some space, but the guy had no plan to do that. He stood there, rooted, giving a charming smile as he urged her, "Don’t mind me at all. Just go ahead with your call."
Myra felt a headache coming. Her body was still weak from all the stress, sleepless nights and panic attacks she was having, combining them with the nightmares and now this whole absurd situation, she knew she couldn’t go out on her own. She didn’t even know where in Hensenhaven she was. She has hardly been out of the Red Stone vicinity, let alone Esteria. And Hensenhaven was almost two hour drive away from the city.
She could tell he wouldn’t go, and right now, calling at her home and telling her family that she was alright and safe was her main concern. Exhaling a sigh, she thought of calling William, but after punching in five digits, she halted, ’No~ .... Not dad or mom, I can’t call any of them. They will ask too many questions, and might catch onto something. So~ .... should I call Yelena then? Ummm~ .... No, no, no~ .... She was already not feeling well. I guess I will have to call Wendy.’
After much contemplation, Myra tapped in Wendy’s number and called. Her caller ringtone chimed in, and during that brief period, Myra was memorizing the script she had to tell her sister to sound believable. Wendy and Yelena both knew about her introverted personality. So, she had to choose her words wisely. ’I will tell her I am going to stay with Shelly for a project.’
"Hello~ .... Who is this?" Wendy’s unsure voice came from the other side.
Myra readied herself and said, "Wendy, it’s me. Myra. I know you all must be worried. I just~ .... wanted to tell you I will be staying~" She started, but Wendy interrupted her. "Sis~ ... ohh~ ... I know that."
The calmness in Wendy’s voice was baffling for Myra, "You do?" She asked in confirmation. "H~ how?" she stammered.
"Ohh~ ... Elio told me," Wendy said casually.
Myra glanced at Dion, who was already steeling glances at Myra, with hidden hearts in his eyes. She then asked with a muffled voice, "How does he know?"
Wendy told her the entire scenario about how she got to know about her going with Alaric, how she had to call Elio to ask his older brother about her whereabouts, "Mr. Alaric told Elio that you were with him because of some research paper discussion. And would be staying out."
"Ohh~ .... Ohkay~ .... So, he already told you. You already know where I am," Myra mumbled, trying piece everything together.
"Sis~ .... You sound a bit off. Is everything ok on your side?" Wendy sensed something odd. She thought Myra might have read those nasty and vicious comments about her.
Myra gave her a light hearted laughter and said, "Haha~ .... everything is~ .... absolutely okay."
"That’s good then," Wendy sighed in relief. Then, recalling something she asked, "By the way, sis. Did you see the news?"
"News, what news?" Myra asked half heartedly. She thought, just like always, Wendy was in her gossip mode, and was going to tell her about her celebrity crush and his break with his girlfriend or something like that.
"You seriously did not hear it? It is all over the news channels. About Chairman Larson’s death from the plane crash," Wendy told her.
"WAIT, WHAT?" Not just Myra, but Dion also exclaimed the exact same words simultaneously with her.
Wendy heard the other voice and asked, "Sis, is there someone else with you, hmm?"
Myra was too thunderstruck to answer Wendy. Instead, she asked her, "Tell me more about the news. Did Mr. Larson~ .... Chairman Larson~ .... really~ .... did he~" The forbidden, ominous word, Myra couldn’t bring herself to say it out loud. Her throat was choked, her eyes red rimmed. It felt as if someone had sucked the air out of her lungs.
