"All taken care of, kids, come on out."
Loren put away his magic wand and gun, then patted his hands as if dusting off non-existent dirt.
"By the way, do you know how to drive a carriage?"
What had just happened seemed hardly worth mentioning to Loren. He didn't dwell on it and instead asked Laila if she could drive the carriage.
"What exactly just happened?"
Laila hadn't fully recovered from the recent events;
the visual impact of the Plague Envoy's Deathrattle was a bit overwhelming.
"As emissaries of the God of Plague, Plague Envoys constantly suppress the power of plague within their bodies. They can use it while alive, and upon death, it all erupts to eliminate their enemies."
While explaining this to Laila, Loren also walked over to the carriage. He helped pull the others out of the overturned vehicle and then righted the carriage.
"So that's how it is..."
Laila understood how crucial this piece of intelligence was. Probably very few people in the entire world knew about this.
In reality, whether it was the Scarecrows or the Plague Envoys, they rarely suffered casualties. Only in the Gedlan Kingdom, thanks to Loren's creation of the Blackened, had so many Scarecrows been killed. Otherwise, such heavy losses wouldn't have occurred.
"I know how to drive a carriage. I'll take the reins."
After Loren used the reversed curse to calm the startled magical beasts, Laila took the driver's seat.
"Though, I've never driven a carriage pulled by this kind of magical beast."
These beasts looked quite similar to horses, except they had fangs, were carnivorous, and their hooves had barbs.
"It's fine. Drive with confidence."
Loren sat a bit closer to the magical beasts. The aura emanating from him made them feel comfortable, causing them to become docile.
The Scorn of All Beings could almost destroy a person, so the effects of this curse, once reversed, were also exceptionally powerful.
Loren didn't bother with the mess left behind on the ground. The Plague Church would handle it later anyway. What Loren needed to do now was get to the Prison of Sin Spire as quickly as possible.
Fortunately, they had a map, and Laila knew the way, so they could still make it there in time.
From a great distance, Loren could see a large crowd gathered around a certain spot. It was a spire constructed from piled-up bones. Many people were intrigued by this strange structure, especially some adventurers.
Most crucially, the moment people laid eyes on the Prison of Sin Spire, they would instinctively want to enter it. For this reason, quite a few Plague Envoys had also disappeared.
Especially since some of those who came out from inside had brought out treasures to varying degrees, which made others increasingly eager to rush in.
Many things in this world were monopolized by the Church. If ordinary people didn't join a church, they might never come into contact with magic their entire lives. This might be their only chance to defy fate and change their destiny.
There were many Plague Envoys here. They maintained order but did not prevent people from entering. They needed trial and error;
they needed to know what exactly was inside. Those who came out would also be questioned immediately.
"Master Mentor, you've finally arrived. Do you know what this thing is?"
Just after getting off the carriage, Loren was met by a Plague Envoy who had come to greet him. He didn't even ask about the whereabouts of the two Plague Envoys assigned to protect Loren.
"I don't know. That's why I want to go in and take a look. I'm very interested in such unknown things."
"But it's very dangerous inside. Less than one in ten who go in come out alive."
The Plague Envoy still wanted to dissuade Loren, as they still had requests for him. But Loren's mind was made up.
"I know. I understand the risks."
Loren walked past the Plague Envoy and approached the Prison of Sin Spire. The Plague Church had already set up quite a few temporary buildings here, even preparing a dedicated one for Loren and his group.
"I'll get ready and then go in. Don't disturb me."
After giving this instruction, Loren entered the temporary building. The structure was wooden, without even windows. The interior was lit solely by oil lamps.
"Catch this."
"What... is this a Starry Night Sky 44?"
After catching the gun Loren tossed over, Laila felt a surge of excitement. This was the first time she had ever held such a powerful firearm, and she couldn't put it down.
"If you want it, it's yours."
"Really? Godfather?"
Hearing Loren's words, Laila was so excited she jumped right onto Loren, wrapping her arms around his neck.
The feeling was like complimenting your roommate's high-end, tens-of-thousands-of-dollars computer setup, only for him to turn around and build you an identical one.
This kind of high-end gear couldn't be bought with money alone. Even the territory of the God of Night and Thunder didn't have many of them. And Loren was willing to give her two outright.
"Don't rush. There's also ammunition."
Loren had Scarlett pull out over a dozen magazines, fully loaded with bullets, from the backpack. Each magazine held fifty rounds.
Loren tossed all these magazines to Laila. Seeing so many bullets, Laila's hands trembled. She usually preferred using revolvers because they were cheap and saved ammunition. Yet here Loren was, giving her so many rounds at once.
"These are bullets enchanted with Flesh-Rending. These ones are enchanted with Armor-Breaking. Remember, load them into the two guns separately."
"En... Enchanted Bullets?"
These things were truly luxury items. Enchanting bullets wasn't much simpler than enchanting swords, and they were consumed quickly. Laila had only used enchanted bullets a few times in her entire life. And here Loren was, giving her seven or eight hundred rounds in one go...
This wasn't a godfather;
this was her biological father!
"This dagger is for you. You're used to using daggers, right? It's fully enchanted, about five or six enchantments, I'd say."
"Fully enchanted? Five or six?"
Never mind how expensive enchantments were, ordinary weapons could basically only be enchanted once. Being able to apply this many enchantments meant the quality of this blade was extraordinary to begin with.
At this moment, Laila suddenly thought of something. Loren had so many beautiful women around him, yet he hardly gave them a second glance. Instead, he was suddenly being so good to her... Could it be that...
Laila suddenly felt a tightness in her rear end. But upon careful thought, Loren was handsome, kind-hearted, had good character, and treated her so well... It wasn't entirely unacceptable. Laila was just worried that when Loren eventually discovered she had nothing down there, his fantasy might shatter.
When she took the dagger, Laila's hands were shaking. She almost felt like kneeling before Loren.
Even though Laila ran around everywhere all the time, she was truly poor.
"And this, this is a set of potions. Everything from temporary stat boosts to antidotes and healing potions. Keep them safe.
"And this, this black robe offers some resistance to magic and helps conceal your aura. Most importantly, I specially sewed pockets inside for potions and magazines, making it convenient for you to carry all that stuff."
Laila stroked the black robe. The fabric of this robe was also no ordinary material. Looking at the pile of items now surrounding her, Laila decided that if she could come out of this alive, she would definitely give her rear end a thorough cleaning tonight.
"This time, I, Anna, Naclis, and Laila will go in. The rest of you wait here. We'll be out soon."
"Hooray!"
Hearing she didn't have to go on the adventure, Scarlett let out a cheer.
"Why don't I get to go either?"
In contrast to Scarlett, upon learning she wouldn't be going, Luna instead felt somewhat disappointed.
