Chapter 131: Listen to your brother
Luca checked a message from Fabio and then tucked the phone back into his pocket. He paid the bill and left the cafe house with Sara.
As he was about to take the driver’s seat, Sara stopped him. "I’ll drive," she said, extending her hand out. Luca placed the keys gently on her palm and smiled, appreciating her need for control and normalcy.
She settled into the driver’s seat while Luca sat comfortably in the passenger seat. She started the engine and drove them toward home.
"You’ve been searching for your grandfather’s murderer for such a long time," Sara began, immediately transitioning to the serious topic. "Didn’t you get any concrete evidence so far? And how do you plan to find it in the future? Also, how are you doing it currently? Does Remo look into it?" Sara asked many questions at once, needing to understand the full scope of his mission.
"I’ve found nothing substantial in all these years regarding this matter," Luca stated. "My main focus was first to eliminate the immediate and most obvious threats surrounding me and my family. It took me more than four years to finally get ensured that things were stable. However, the recent attack by Martin Lorozov showed me that I failed in one such critical mission, neutralizing a known past enemy."
"You didn’t fail," Sara affirmed gently. "You just overlooked Martin, thinking he was dead."
"Yeah. But still it was a failure from my part," Luca replied, maintaining his self-criticism.
"Did you not check those with whom Grandpa used to have meals?" Sara inquired, trying to follow his investigative steps.
"I did. But I couldn’t just shoot them down based on suspicion," Luca explained. "I tried finding any reason for which they would have poisoned my grandfather slowly. But I couldn’t find it either. I went through all possible things to find out the truth."
"Your phone is buzzing," Sara said.
Luca pulled it out and checked the caller ID. "Mathias," he murmured.
"Huh? Why is he calling?" Sara inquired, confusion creeping into her voice.
"He wants to see you," Luca answered, his jaw tightening. "I think he’s at home already."
"What? Why does he want to see me?" Sara asked, genuinely confused.
"I don’t know. But he mentioned that he has something important to tell you. And if I would stop him, he wouldn’t share it," Luca asserted, the manipulation obvious. "I can’t believe he’s doing all this just to get a glance at you. It makes my blood boil."
"Answer his phone and tell him that we wouldn’t be coming to your parents’ house," Sara stated, focusing her gaze on the road ahead. "Instead, we are going straight to our home."
The phone stopped ringing before Luca could answer. "He has an information that..."
"I don’t want to hear any information from him," Sara stated firmly, cutting him off. "If he truly wants to relay it to me, then he can tell you. I don’t like his gaze either. It makes me want to punch him. I can’t believe my dad chose him for me!"
"I’m sorry that you felt that way," Luca muttered, his own anger at Mathias simmering. "I should have pulled his eyes out that day."
"You can’t do that," Sara remarked, smiling softly at his protective threat, finding comfort in his possessiveness.
"Well, I can," Luca whispered, leaning close and placing his warm hand on her thigh.
"Don’t distract me," she said, slapping his hand quickly.

"Where have you gone?" Marcella asked immediately as Frida walked into the apartment.
"Do I have to tell you everything about my outings?" Frida inquired sharply, lowering her handbag onto the couch. She pressed her hand on her neck, rubbing the tension away, and slumped onto the couch beside her.
"You should be working, Frida. Can’t you see what has happened to us? Your father is divorcing me! It will be processed tomorrow." Marcella lowered herself next to her.
"You’ll be getting your share, Mom. Dad didn’t even love you. If he had, he would not have done this," Frida replied, her voice cold and devoid of filial respect. "I shouldn’t be calling him Dad anymore," she chuckled dismissively.
"He did. Adam loved me," Marcella stated, desperately clinging to that belief.
Frida gazed at her mother before turning to her fully. "Mom, I went to see Sara’s mother. I had something in my mind."
"What? Why did you even see Gloria... I mean Paulina? Have you gone mad?" Marcella scolded her daughter, aghast at the dangerous association.
"I want to destroy Sara," Frida hissed, her face contorted by malice. "Now that your husband has also thrown us out, I don’t have to sit quietly and watch his daughter grow wealthy and happy. He never did anything good for us. And that old hag, Sara’s grandmother, she poisoned everything for us, always interfering."
Frida explained her scheme with dark satisfaction. "That’s why I thought to fill Paulina’s ears against that old hag and use her to create chaos in that house, in Sara’s life."
"And what will Luca do to you if he finds out? Have you thought about that?" Diego’s voice suddenly reached their ears. He had a mug in his hand, filled with hot coffee. "You are still not understanding the danger," he chuckled, taking a sip.
"Brother, I am a danger myself," Frida asserted fiercely. "If Luca is a mafia, then I’ll also associate myself with one to destroy him and Sara. How about that?"
"Don’t talk like that, Frida," Diego advised her sternly, his casual demeanor evaporating into concern.
"Listen to your brother," Marcella pleaded. "You’ve seriously lost your mind. Why do you have to involve yourself with such dangerous people?" She furrowed her brows together in confusion and fear.
"To end Sara. Mom, I can’t stand her. She’s the reason for our present state." Frida then rose to her feet. "I am not a coward like both of you. I know what I’m doing." With that, she left the room and walked toward her own, leaving Marcella and Diego shocked.
