My Ability Pool is Superior-Chapter 5: Full Outbreak

Chapter 5

“As a high school student, is it unreasonable to carry a regulated knife?”
Lu Bai casually brushed it off, too lazy to even think of a better reason.
Ke Jianghao didn’t mind, just sizing up Lu Bai’s build, adding, “A weapon would be more useful to me.”
“Fair point.”
Lu Bai nodded, but made no move to hand over the eight-sided Han sword.
Seeing this, Ke Jianghao frowned: “I’m on the track team.”
“Even if you’re a sports student, or an elementary school student, it won’t work.”
Lu Bai ultimately refrained from using more aggressive words.
Even so, Ke Jianghao’s complexion wasn’t great.
He got down from the desk, walked up to Lu Bai, and leaned his face close: “Then you’d better hold onto that sword.”
At this distance, Lu Bai could even see the pores on his face; he distastefully tilted his head back a bit.
“What are you doing? This isn’t the time for internal strife.”
Faced with the conflict between students, the middle-aged female teacher wearing thin-rimmed glasses finally remembered her identity.
She walked between the two, pulling one with each hand to separate them: “Students, we don’t know the situation outside, so we should be united now more than ever.”
Ke Jianghao pursed his lips but said nothing more.
The female teacher had never encountered a zombie outbreak, so she symbolically inquired: “Lu Bai, have you seen any other students outside?”
“All the students I saw had turned into zombies.”
Lu Bai said this with a very sincere smile still on his face.
In this situation, it instead seemed somewhat anomalous.
“Uh, zom… zombies?”
The female teacher was stunned for a moment, soon realizing this was referring to the frenzied students outside.
She swallowed, still responsibly comforting: “We’ve already called the police, no need to worry, just wait here a bit.”
Lu Bai gave a noncommittal smile, then walked toward the window.
Based on his past life’s viewing experience, he found it hard to hold much hope for rescue personnel.
The office was on the third floor.
Compared to ordinary residential buildings, the floor height standard of the teaching building was clearly much taller.
Lu Bai stood by the window and glanced outside, immediately ruling out jumping out the window.
No way, jumping from this height would result in at least broken bones.
But the number of zombies downstairs, though not as exaggeratedly dense as on the sports field.
Looking at those dozen or so zombies wandering in the open space, Lu Bai didn’t think they would quietly wait for him to recover mobility.
“Don’t take it to heart, old Ke is actually a good guy, maybe he’s a bit nervous too.”
Fat Brother whispered, seemingly worried Lu Bai wouldn’t fit in.
The glasses man also came over, giving Lu Bai a goodwill smile.
“No one wanted this to happen.” Lu Bai leaned sideways against the window, giving an overall relaxed impression.
After confirming Lu Bai wasn’t angry, Fat Brother chuckled and said, “I’m Tian Wang, he’s Zheng Xiaoming.”
“Get lost.”
The glasses man shoved Tian Wang a couple times, found he couldn’t budge him, and looked helpless: “I’m Zheng Xiaoming, the xiao of dawn, the ming of one cry astonishing people.”
Tian Wang was very outgoing, sneakily pointing at the last girl.
“That one, Ke Jiangni, anyway old Ke always calls himself brother, we don’t dare verify with her.”
“Ke Jiangni has a bad temper?”
Lu Bai’s gaze swept back and forth over the siblings, not seeing much resemblance.
Not sure if she heard her name, Ke Jiangni raised her beautiful eyes, looking toward the three, catching Lu Bai red-handed staring at her.
Lu Bai wasn’t embarrassed, frankly nodding at her.
Ke Jiangni showed no reaction throughout, only thinking to herself, “Weird.”
Because she was well protected by her brother and never needed to step forward, she had developed the habit since childhood of observing from behind him.
Having observed many people this way, her judgments based on their words and actions were rarely far off.
But,
She looked at the handsome youth by the window, her willow brows subtly furrowing.
Too weird, that calm, gentle, and refined demeanor didn’t seem like a student his age at all, more like… a scholar?
Ke Jiangni thought for a moment but couldn’t find a fitting description.
Just as she puzzled over this, the old radio in the office suddenly made a sound.
“We now interrupt with an important news bulletin: a series of incidents in the urban area are suspected to be mass outbreaks caused by an acute virus…”
“Citizens within the urban area’s third ring, please note: if your street has no movement, do not go out and lock all doors…”
“The government is urgently holding a resident safety assurance meeting, evacuation orders have been issued to the surrounding urban area, surrounding residents please head to the suburbs for shelter as quickly as possible while ensuring your own safety…”
“Repeating once more…”
The series of urgent broadcast s made everyone in the room hold their breath.
After a brief silence.
Ke Jianghao quickly went to a desk and opened the laptop computer on it.
The mouse clicked a few times quickly, and the screen showed footage of a press conference.
A suit-wearing politician stood at the podium, with ers holding microphones seated below.
Except for Lu Bai, everyone else crowded around, heads pressed together without anyone minding.
“What’s the current situation?”
“From the current diffusion form, it’s estimated to be a highly infectious disease; infected patients exhibit strong attack desires, and victims show the same symptoms, suspected secondary infection.”
“Is it an unknown virus?”
“Still confirming.”
“How is it transmitted?”
“Air transmission not ruled out, no conclusion yet.”
“Is this an international health crisis or a military crisis?”
“Perhaps both…”
Watching the press conference on the screen, everyone exchanged looks, unable to accept this reality.
This sudden event was more severe than they imagined.
In the short term, it seemed hard to pin hopes on rescue teams.
Glasses-wearing Zheng Xiaoming retreated a few steps in confusion, leaning against the wall and slowly sliding to the ground.
Ke Jianghao’s complexion was equally poor; he gritted his teeth, exited the press conference, and clicked into the currently hottest forum.
Trying to find other useful information from the constantly scrolling posts.
Lu Bai tilted his head slightly, watching everyone’s changes with interest.
He suppressed the laughter unconsciously creeping into his voice, to avoid being mistaken for gloating, and spoke in as flat a tone as possible.
“It’s been so long with no police appearing; you should have some mental preparation for the degree of seriousness, no need to despair so quickly. If you have the energy, why not consider…”
Lu Bai’s gaze swept over everyone’s faces.
“…water source, food, and evacuation route.”
