Chapter 226: 225: Got their head cracked open
After Jiang Baizhou and Cen Jin hung up the phone, his whole demeanor became invigorated, as if suddenly energized, with his face beaming with excitement, looking quite spirited.
After a quick freshen up, Jiang Baizhou changed his clothes, grabbed his phone and car keys, and went out. He bought some breakfast near his residential area but didn’t have time to eat it before heading directly to the consulting room.
Upon arriving at the consulting room, Wei Xuan, who had arrived early, saw him still holding his breakfast and greeted with a smile: "Good morning, Doctor Jiang. You haven’t had breakfast yet!"
"Mm." Jiang Baizhou responded lightly, not saying much more as he went straight upstairs.
After finishing his breakfast in the office, Jiang Baizhou turned on the computer on his desk, specifically checked the time, and then pressed the intercom button on the phone, connecting to Wei Xuan downstairs: "Doctor Jiang, what can I do for you?"
"The 8:30 appointment with Mr. Qi, could you call and check if he’s coming?"
"Okay, I’ll call to inquire in a moment." Wei Xuan replied with a smile: "Doctor Jiang, is there anything else you need my help with?"
Jiang Baizhou didn’t answer quickly; after a moment of silent contemplation, Wei Xuan on the other end didn’t rush him. During the time she spent at the consulting room, thanks to Lu Xize’s hints, she’d gotten a good understanding of Jiang Baizhou’s habits. In situations like this, if he didn’t hang up first but remained silent, it meant he was thinking, and at such times, she shouldn’t rush or be anxious. Otherwise, Jiang Baizhou’s poker face might turn into an icy expression, and she’d face endless cold stares, potentially jeopardizing her job.
Working with Jiang Baizhou, besides him being a difficult superior with a cold personality, actually had quite a few perks.
For example, since Jiang Baizhou also taught at the school, the number of patients he saw each month was limited. Most were by appointment, so aside from contacting and counseling patients, her duties included filing documents and distributing medication. The rest of the time was quite relaxing. Compared to Lang Jing, Lu Xize’s assistant, she was actually very relaxed. Moreover, the generous salary Jiang Baizhou offered was more than enough compensation for enduring cold stares; besides, although he wasn’t very interesting and didn’t smile often, he was quite fair with rewards and punishments. In just a few months, she learned more from him than she did in school.
There was quite a discrepancy between studying and working in practice.
Additionally, Jiang Baizhou was never stingy with teaching. Outside invitations for him to give lectures were expensive, yet she got to listen for free, learn for free, and still get paid. Why not?
Plus, she met Lang Jing, a lively and cheerful girl, although Lang Jing and her boyfriend often left her feeling like a third wheel.
After a prolonged silence, Wei Xuan thought maybe Jiang Baizhou had hung up, and was about to remind him, before his low, indifferent voice came through the phone again: "Are the schedules for the 4th to 6th fully booked?"
"Let me check." Wei Xuan responded immediately, checked Jiang Baizhou’s schedule, and then answered seriously, "Doctor Jiang, on the 4th at 9:30 in the morning, Miss Liu Meiting has a follow-up appointment. She was here for her initial consultation on the 17th of last month. In the afternoon, there’s a 14-year-old boy and a 25-year-old Miss Zhao. On the 5th, you have a lecture at S University in the morning, and two classes at Nanda in the afternoon, so no patients are scheduled that day. On the 6th, there are four patients; two of them are for follow-ups. Among them, Mr. Li’s condition has greatly improved, and it’s his last follow-up visit."
After Wei Xuan finished speaking, Jiang Baizhou pondered again, staying silent for a while before saying, "Clear the schedule for those three days completely."
"All of it?" Wei Xuan listened, surprised.
"Do you need me to repeat?"
"No... I understand, but... Miss Liu Meiting’s follow-up can’t be postponed; her condition seems a bit serious. Also, the lecture at S University on the 5th can’t be rescheduled easily. For the others, I can call to communicate, but if it doesn’t work, then... what should we do? Your schedule from the 7th onwards is already fully booked as well."
"Mm, understood. Inform me once you have the results." After speaking, Jiang Baizhou paused briefly, then asked, "Hasn’t Xi Ze come yet?"
"Uh... I haven’t seen Doctor Lu! Perhaps there’s another arrangement. Shall I ask Lang Jing later?"
"Yes, ask her and let me know."
"Alright."
As soon as Wei Xuan finished speaking, Jiang Baizhou hung up the phone. She forced a smile, blinked while holding the receiver; this was indeed the Doctor Jiang she knew, now truly with no instructions left.
Nonetheless, she was really curious why Doctor Jiang wanted to free up those three days specifically.
Despite the curiosity, Wei Xuan followed Jiang Baizhou’s instructions, called to inquire and communicate, but the lecture at S University couldn’t be postponed, and two patients on the 6th couldn’t reschedule, so those couldn’t be moved either.
As the patients with morning appointments arrived, Jiang Baizhou was busy conducting preliminary psychological assessments and developing treatment plans, times when he could not be disturbed. So after making all the calls, Wei Xuan noted everything down in her notebook to to him after he finished.
Just then, Lang Jing returned from outside, prompting Wei Xuan to call out, "Lang Jing, where have you been all morning? And what about Doctor Lu? Doesn’t he have any patient appointments this morning?"
Lang Jing stopped, letting out a silent sigh, "I just got back from the hospital!"
"The hospital? What were you doing at the hospital? Are you feeling unwell?"
"Not me, Doctor Lu."
"Ah, Doctor Lu? Is Doctor Lu ill?"
"Not exactly." Lang Jing’s face flushed with a hint of embarrassment and reluctance, she leaned closer to Wei Xuan, hesitantly starting, "Well... if I tell you, you mustn’t tell anyone else! Otherwise, Doctor Lu will never let me off when he gets back."
Wei Xuan nodded earnestly, her curiosity piqued, "Okay, I promise not to tell anyone. Go ahead."
"It’s just... Doctor Lu went to a bar yesterday and accidentally got his head whacked open by someone, apparently by some youngster, and he’s still lying in the hospital!"
"Pfft..." Wei Xuan couldn’t hold back her laughter at Lang Jing’s words.
