Chapter 272

Chapter 272: 268: Really doesn’t consider himself an outsider.
"Any problems?" Seeing their surprised expressions, Jiang Baizhou raised his eyebrows uncomfortably, pursing his lips tightly, and asked indifferently.
Cen Jin was the first to come to her senses, forcing a fake smile: "It’s just... a bit surprising to hear ’cousin’ from your mouth, that’s all. Take off your coat! It’s warmer inside than outside."
Shen Xiangchen also snapped out of it, standing up and smiling: "I must say, after more than a year, you’ve changed quite a bit. Hearing ’cousin’ from your mouth was truly surprising."
"If you can’t handle it, I don’t mind not calling you that in the future," Jiang Baizhou said as he took off his coat, withdrew his gaze, and walked directly towards the dining room.
Shen Xiangchen: "..."
This person really doesn’t treat himself as an outsider, not holding back at all. Look at how he talks.
Jiang Baizhou didn’t bother with Shen Xiangchen anymore. When he reached the kitchen doorway, he greeted Ms. Qin and Miss Yu Hui inside: "Mom."
"Baizhou is back, must be hungry! Quickly sit down and have a meal," Ms. Qin beamed with delight upon seeing Jiang Baizhou. With a bowl of soup in hand, she walked past him. Just as Jiang Baizhou wanted to reach out to take it, Ms. Qin dodged him: "It’s okay, I’ll do it. It’s not convenient for you. Your mom is still stir-frying vegetables, there’s also a shrimp dish inside, would you mind bringing it out?"
"Okay."
After Jiang Baizhou agreed, he walked into the kitchen, just as Miss Yu Hui turned to look over, smiling: "You’re back."
"Mm." Jiang Baizhou responded lightly, looking at the plate of shrimp on the counter. He walked over to pick it up, hesitated slightly, moved his lips, and spoke slowly: "I heard from Cen Jin that you caught a cold?"
Miss Yu Hui, who was plating the dish, was momentarily stunned upon hearing that, looked towards her son, and found him not looking at her but instead staring at the plate of shrimp in his hand. She couldn’t help but smile, her heart warming: "It’s nothing serious, I took medicine today and feel much better. I’ll take another dose later when I go back."
Upon hearing this, Jiang Baizhou turned his head to look at Miss Yu Hui, saw her smiling brightly while holding the dish and looking at him, and raised his eyebrows slightly: "Call me if there’s anything, or call Dad."
"Okay, don’t I know myself? It’s just a small cold."
Seeing that her face had regained some color, Jiang Baizhou said nothing more and carried the dish out of the kitchen.
"Xiangchen, come and eat, quickly. Hui Zi, make sure you finish cooking and come out soon," Ms. Qin took off her apron and invited everyone to sit down.
After they sat down, Ms. Qin smiled and said: "You know, this is the first time our families have had a meal together since Cen Jin and Baizhou got married, just a pity Old Jiang isn’t here. If he were, it would be perfect."
"He’s at Bo Academy, probably won’t be back until their vacation," Miss Yu Hui smiled, took a sip of warm water, and replied softly.
"True, he’s probably very busy at Bo Academy. Alright, let’s not talk about anything else, everyone dig in! Xiangchen, eat as much as you like, no need to be polite, we’re all family here."
"Alright, Aunt, you don’t need to worry about me, do I look like someone who knows how to be polite?"
"That’s good, eat more."
Cen Jin watched them exchange pleasantries, and without any hesitation, picked up her chopsticks and started eating. After all, everyone here was family, there’s no need for formalities. Sitting next to her, Jiang Baizhou, who knew her well, thoughtfully placed a few shrimp into her bowl. Cen Jin glanced at him, squinting with a smile to show her thanks.
After the meal, Cen Jin, taking the initiative, pulled Jiang Baizhou to wash dishes together, naturally not giving him a chance to object.
After Shen Xiangchen helped clear the dishes, he looked at them both standing next to the sink and suggested: "Need any help?"
"No need," Jiang Baizhou replied with conviction as he glanced over.
The response was exactly what Shen Xiangchen expected. He knew that with a couple washing dishes together, he would not want to intrude or play the third wheel. The offer was merely a polite gesture, and even if they accepted, he’d prefer not to.
"Hey, Jiang Baizhou, how about we spend the night here tonight?" After Shen Xiangchen left the kitchen, Cen Jin asked while washing dishes.
"Stay here?" Jiang Baizhou tilted his head, looking nostalgically at her figure, immediately understanding her reasoning: "Hm, it’s up to you, I’m fine with it."
"Alright, then I’ll mention it to Mom later."
"Okay," Jiang Baizhou answered mildly, paused, and then asked: "Do you plan to stay here or my place?"
"Here isn’t possible, Mom has prepared the guest room for my cousin, and there’s another room upstairs but it’s too late to tidy it up now. My room is just a single bed, barely enough for myself, let alone you," Cen Jin sized up Jiang Baizhou’s figure with a hint of regret and smiled at him.
Rendered speechless, Jiang Baizhou recalled the small bed in her room, raising his eyebrows: "Then we should stay at my place, it’s all set up."
"Mm, I’m a bit worried about Mom, afraid she might have some issue tonight while we’re not around, with Dad being away as well, and she might not tell us out of pride, we wouldn’t know."
"Mm, I understand," Jiang Baizhou’s eyes softened with a trace of joy, pleased with her concern. He couldn’t resist leaning down to kiss her cheek.
His sudden kiss caught Cen Jin off guard, her eyes widened with surprise. Her hands were greasy and covered in suds, unable to react beyond staring at him: "What are you doing? Mom and my cousin are outside!"
"It’s fine, they can’t see,"
Cen Jin’s face turned red out of embarrassment, giving him an annoyed glance before lowering her head to continue washing her dishes.
"Once we’ve finished washing, I’ll head over to tidy up. It’s been over a month since I last stayed there, I need to sort out the room."
"Do you need any help?"
"I’d certainly welcome it,"
Seeing his slightly suggestive look, Cen Jin conceded, averting her eyes: "You better sort it out yourself. I’ll stay to accompany Mom and my cousin for a chat. We haven’t even finished the strawberries and cherries I just got from the supermarket with my cousin!"
Jiang Baizhou chuckled lightly on hearing this, said nothing more, and took over the dishes she had washed to rinse them once again.
After they washed the dishes, Cen Jin informed them that they planned on staying over tonight instead of going back. Of course, Ms. Qin and Miss Yu Hui were elated and, after asking where they planned to sleep, Miss Yu Hui stood to help prepare the bedding, but Cen Jin pulled her back, saying let Jiang Baizhou handle it and invited her to sit for a chat instead.
