Chapter 273

Chapter 273: 269: First Snow
After Jiang Baizhou returned home, Cen Jin stayed to chat with them. As they chatted, Shen Xiangchen, who was silently discussing work matters on the phone with his assistant, very proudly became the scapegoat.
"Speaking of which, Xiang Chen doesn’t have a girlfriend yet, does he?" Miss Yu Hui suddenly shifted the topic to Shen Xiangchen.
When Shen Xiangchen heard his name, he was taken aback, looking up bewilderedly at the scrutinizing and puzzled gazes of the three. The whole day, he alone was bombarded with this question repeatedly, and now it’s still not enough; they had to interrogate him collectively. He was in a tough spot.
"Where would he get a girlfriend? I was just talking to him today! Told him to hurry up, he’s turning 29 after the new year, not young anymore. Even if it’s not about marriage, he should at least find a girlfriend first!" As Shen Xiangchen lamented in his heart, Ms. Qin Xuesu stepped in and picked up the conversation for him, her words carrying a hint of frustration.
"He should indeed find a girlfriend, almost thirty. Surely your little sisters are anxious, right!"
"Absolutely, he’s the only son, and he doesn’t even have a girlfriend yet, how could they not be anxious? But what’s the use of being anxious? He himself doesn’t take it seriously, not worried at all. It’s like, the emperor is not worried, but the eunuchs are."
"With conditions like Xiang Chen’s, it should be easy for him to find a girlfriend! Good family background, successful career, and handsome too. Could it be that Xiang Chen’s standards are too high?"
"You’d have to ask him. We really don’t know what type he likes."
Listening to Ms. Qin and Miss Yu Hui’s back-and-forth, Shen Xiangchen couldn’t help but feel on the verge of tears as he listened on the side. He could only explain: "It’s not that I have high standards or anything, it’s just that I haven’t met someone I fancy yet."
Having escaped his mother’s marriage pressure in Canada, he returned home only to face his aunt’s insistence. It was truly hard for him!
Cen Jin, watching from the side, felt an infinite sense of relief. She was thankful she got married before reaching the stage of being urged, suddenly feeling a bit sympathetic for her cousin Shen Xiangchen. Over the coming month, he surely couldn’t escape being nagged.
"Why don’t you tell Aunt what kind you like? I actually know a few people, could help you see if there’s a match," laughed Miss Yu Hui softly and gently asked.
Shen Xiangchen again felt like crying without tears. He just knew it, things were definitely not that simple—this was the crux of the matter.
"Well... Aunt, I’m really not in a hurry now, and my career here in Nancheng has just started, not yet stable. My focus is mainly on work right now. I will consider this issue seriously once my career is stable, mainly going with the flow. If I meet the right one, I will naturally take it seriously, and wouldn’t trouble you to worry about it for me."
Shen Xiangchen’s words were a polite way to decline Miss Yu Hui’s suggestion, something she had expected. Not getting upset, she smiled and said, "It’s no trouble at all, though for young entrepreneurs like you, work is indeed a priority. But as they say, building a family and a career, you should also pay attention to personal matters!"
"Yes, Aunt, you’re right. I will seriously consider it and will definitely pursue it with full force if I find someone I like."
"I just love your spirit."
Shen Xiangchen sighed gently, finally managing to smooth over the topic. Raising his head, he saw Cen Jin secretly giggling, earning her a playful eye roll. This girl was really here just to watch the show!
When it was close to eight o’clock, Cen Jin stood up, grabbed her coat and bag: "Mom, I’ll head over to check first. Jiang Baizhou went to put on the bed covers, not sure how he’s done."
"Alright, I’ll go with you! I’m really not quite confident about him putting on the covers," Yu Hui, seeing it’s almost eight, got up quickly after looking at the time, continuing from Cen Jin’s words, "That kid Bai Zhou also brought me some medicine, which I haven’t taken yet. Xuesu, sorry for bothering you tonight."
"What are you saying? Go ahead quickly! The weather’s getting colder, make sure you keep warm—catching a cold now would be unpleasant. Give me a call anytime if there’s anything, we’ve known each other for decades. There’s no need for formalities!"
"Okay." Miss Yu Hui replied with a smile, looking at Shen Xiangchen: "We’ll head over first, come over for a meal someday, Aunt will cook something nice for you."
"Okay, take care, Aunt."
After putting on her coat, Cen Jin and Miss Yu Hui stepped out of the villa, only to find that snowflakes were drifting down from the sky, covering the ground with a thin layer of snow. Cen Jin paused, her eyes wide with instant joy, and she ran into the snow without even opening her umbrella, twirling with her hands raised: "Wow! It’s snowing, it’s finally snowing."
"This year’s first snow is nice, snowed all day, and it started snowing again soon after the rain stopped for a short while," laughed Miss Yu Hui, opening her umbrella and walking over.
"Yes! I kept hearing the weather forecast say there would be snow, would be snow, but it just wouldn’t come. I thought it was going to be the same as last year where it was all talk! But didn’t expect it really snowed, and it’s quite heavy. Mom, let me walk you home first, your cold isn’t fully recovered!" Although she was excited to see the snow, Cen Jin didn’t forget Miss Yu Hui’s health, containing her own excitement as she took her hand and walked to the neighboring villa.
Upon returning to the neighboring villa, Cen Jin poured a glass of warm water for Miss Yu Hui, watched her take the medicine, and accompanied her upstairs to Jiang Baizhou’s old room, where they found he had already put on the covers and the bed sheet and was using a vacuum cleaner on the dust of the bedside table.
"You’ve got everything done! I thought you might not have finished yet!" Cen Jin exchanged a glance with him, smiling, then turned to Miss Yu Hui: "Mom, you should go rest in your room first! Leave the rest to Jiang Baizhou and me. You’ve just taken your medicine, go relax."
"Alright, I’ll head to my room then. You two should go to bed early too."
"Okay, goodnight."
Watching Miss Yu Hui return to her room, Cen Jin then entered, grabbed Jiang Baizhou’s arm, and gently shook it, very excitedly saying, "Jiang Baizhou, did you see it’s snowing outside?"
"Snowing?"
"Hmm." Cen Jin nodded heavily, pulling him to the floor-to-ceiling window and opening the curtains: "Didn’t you realize?"
"Didn’t notice." Gazing at the drifting snowflakes outside, Jiang Baizhou lowered his eyes, extended his arm to embrace her into his arms: "It’s snowing pretty heavily, how about I take you down to play when the snow’s thick?"
Cen Jin leaned her head back slightly to meet his eyes, laughing: "Take me down to play, making it sound like I’m a three-year-old kid."
"No, but you’re still a little older than three," Jiang Baizhou teased in his voice: "At most six, can’t be any more."
