Nightmare Assault-Chapter 465: Fall

Chapter 465: Fall
Moments later, Du Feng’s face dropped. Jiang Cheng stood up. The guess in his heart was being verified. The thing last night… might not be a ghost but a human, namely the bedridden woman from Room 906.
Due to the muscular atrophy of her legs, she could only crawl to move. It was also why her upper body was so developed. It explained why she took 23 steps to move from one door to another. She wasn’t walking but crawling. It elucidated why her clothes were so dirty. The caregivers joked that she was using her clothes to mop the floor. They had no idea how right they were.
However… Jiang Cheng was curious. Why would she do that? At the same time, Jiang Cheng was reminded of the person who murdered Lee Kaifeng. Could she be behind that?
Jiang Cheng shook his head. That was impossible. No matter how well she disguised herself, the muscular atrophy wouldn’t go away. Even if the woman could stand, her posture and gait would be clearly different from normal. Furthermore… she would have to carry a medical tray. This might be simple for a normal person, but not for the bedridden woman.
Weiwei and Wang Changguo, who were in the room, might be inexperienced, but they were not dumb. They wouldn’t have missed such a huge discrepancy. So, the woman couldn’t have been the killer. The fake nurse might be the real ghost.
The door opened. Du Feng felt his sweat turning into frost. Thinking back to what Jiang Cheng did, he had a bad feeling.
“It’s about time,” Weiwei whispered. It was two hours until their time to meet up with Kui Yi and the rest.
There was a small bedside table next to the bed. It had a red rotary phone on it. Jiang Cheng took out a small card and called the number on it. After that, they left the room and returned to the second floor.
They had just reached the second floor when they saw Kui Yi and Cao Yang hurry back. The two groups reunited and shared their clues. Cao Yang carried two boxes of mineral water. The mysterious nurse had alarmed him.
Kui Yi reminded the group to stop drinking the water prepared for them by the hospital. After hearing Jiang Cheng’s news, Kui Yi and Cao Yang looked at each other strangely. Eventually, Cao Yang said, “We’ve visited some of the old shops. We asked them if anything strange had happened at the hospital recently.”
“No one told us anything, but the boss of a breakfast shop accidentally let one thing slip.” Cao Yang looked at Jiang Cheng. “However, the incident happened ten years ago. Ten years ago, when the day was starting, the boss said he was just opening his shop when he heard someone at the hospital scream. He turned around and saw something fall from the sky. The boss was stunned. The person who fell was a man. He died on the spot.” Cao Yang stopped to glance at Jiang Cheng. “The boss showed us where the man fell from. It was on the sixth floor… Around that way.” Cao Yang pointed down the corridor. Jiang Cheng followed his finger. He pointed in the general direction of the abandoned corridor. The man probably fell from one of the locked rooms.
“Do you know why?” Jiang Cheng asked.
“Not sure.” Cao Yang asked, “The boss also asked around, but the hospital wouldn’t say anything. In the end, the boss only figured out that the man had murdered someone, unable to escape and chose to kill himself.”
“He murdered someone and killed himself?!”
“Yes.” Cao Yang nodded. “That was what the boss said.”
“The police came and left after an investigation. No one was arrested.” Kui Yi added, “So it was probably a suicide.”
No one spoke for a while. Ten years ago… A man killed someone and jumped off a room on the sixth floor. The hospital had nothing to say about this. The abandoned rooms on the sixth floor… The nurse who had lost her mind but was taken in by the hospital for ten years… Director Qi, who employed them to vanquish the ghost.
The clues were a mess. The imminent goal was to figure out the truth from ten years ago. Who… did the man kill, and who was the man?
“The murdered person…” Yu Yu lifted her head. “Could they be the ghost at the hospital?”
It was a natural assumption. However, if that were true, Director Qi had nothing to do with it. Why would he be so scared?
“Could the murder be related to Director Qi?” Weiwei asked.
Kui Yi scratched his chin. “Perhaps we can see things from a different perspective. The ghost might not be the victim but the man who died from suicide.”
It was an interesting perspective, but Jiang Cheng didn’t agree with it.
That was all the clues they had. It was pointless to keep discussing. Jiang Cheng checked the time. He claimed he wanted to go look for more clues. Kui Yi had the same idea. He didn’t want to explore after the day darkened.
It rained heavily, and the sky was dark. The hospital was shrouded in a gloom.
Jiang Cheng returned to the fourth floor. Through the glass, he saw Zhao Ru cleaning up the white styrofoam box. There were some lilies at the corner of her table. Jiang Cheng walked over to knock on the glass.
Zhao Ru was shocked. However, when she turned around and saw Jiang Cheng, her eyes lit up.
The door opened, and Jiang Cheng invited himself in. “It smells amazing!” He smiled.
Zhao Ru blushed. She said shyly, “Thank you for the lunch… And lilies.”
Jiang Cheng ordered food and flowers from the nearby shops. Director Qi gave the travellers a card, telling them that they could order anything they wanted. The shops would make the delivery. He’d pay the fees. Jiang Cheng would never be polite with such a person.
