Nightmare Assault-Chapter 466: Return

Chapter 466: Return
He added five new dishes for Zhao Ru: two meats, two vegetables and one soup. Every dish was separatedly packed. This way, Zhao Ru could take the leftovers home for dinner.
“I felt so bad for taking your lunch.” Jiang Cheng sat down and smiled. “But I couldn’t help myself. I wanted to try your cooking.”
Zhao Ru blushed harder. She pulled on her nurse's outfit and whispered, “My cooking is not great.”
“Nonsense.” Jiang Cheng blinked and countered, “I think your cooking is amazing. If possible, I want to have them again tomorrow.” Jiang Cheng watched his rhythm. For someone as experienced as he was, he showed no trace of performance. He was being himself. After a short period, the relationship between the two became much closer. Through their conversation, Jiang Cheng tried to figure out more about the hospital. Unfortunately, Zhao Ru was an intern. She didn’t know much. However, she promised Jiang Cheng to pay more attention.
“If I have to mention something weird…” Zhao Ru hesitated and said, “Actually, I’ve encountered one thing.” She sounded uncertain. Jiang Cheng was curious and urged her to continue.
Zhao Ru said that when she first came to the hospital, Director Qi arranged for her to inject the medicine for the patient in Room 906. For the first few times, Director Qi went with her. When she injected the patient, Director Qi watched from the side. At this point, Zhao Ru’s face shifted as if something was troubling her.
The next second, a hand landed on the back of her palm. The hand was big and warm. Zhao Ru looked up and saw Jiang Cheng’s glowing eyes. Zhao Ru’s hesitation melted away. She told Jiang Cheng that when Director Qi was with her, she felt weirdly unsettled. Director Qi’s attention wasn’t on her at all. More precisely, Director Qi’s focus was not on her method but on the patient’s face. “It felt like…” Zhao Ru frowned. “He was observing the patient’s reaction. But why would the patient react?” Zhao Ru said, “She is in a coma. She wouldn’t respond to any external stimuli. This proceeded for a week before Director Qi allowed me to do this on my own.”
Zhao Ru stopped and looked conflicted. Jiang Cheng fetched her a glass of water. Zhao Ru wasn’t thirsty. She merely wanted to calm her emotions.
Jiang Cheng didn’t push her. He looked patient even though his heart was racing. Zhao Ru pressed her lips and continued, “Then, I followed Director Qi’s instructions and injected her daily. But…” Zhao Ru’s tone shifted. The way she looked at Jiang Cheng changed, as if this memory had been dogging her. “One day, after I took the medicine and was on the way to grab the syringe, at the corner of the 8th and 9th floors, I wasn’t paying attention and slipped. The medicine bottle fell and shattered.” Zhao Ru lowered her voice to a whisper. “I didn’t dare to tell Director Qi. I’m only an intern. Back then, I had been here for only two weeks. I was scared…”
Jiang Cheng rubbed the back of her hand and comforted her. “I understand. It was an accident, right?” From the looks of things, Zhao Ru didn’t inform Director Qi of this. “What happened next?” Jiang Cheng said softly.
Zhao Ru took a deep breath. “Then, it was the next day. I requested the medicine like normal and went to Room 906 for my daily duty. It was raining.” Zhao Ru recalled. “The rain was heavy. It didn’t stop through the night. The sky was dark. If you didn’t open the indoor lights, you’d think it was nighttime.” Zhao Ru glanced out the window subconsciously. The weather was similar to how it was then. The clouds outside looked so heavy that they might fall.
“When I arrived at Room 906, everything was normal. The patient was in bed with her eyes open, staring at the ceiling. I was used to it. On the first day I saw her, she was already acting like that. Due to the weather, I wasn’t in a good mood. When the drip was done, I removed the needle. However, as I did so, there was a bolt of thunder. It frightened me. Then, the lights in the room flickered before going out. The room sank into darkness. Because I was holding the needle, my first reaction was to put it away so I wouldn’t accidentally hurt the patient. However, as I reached out to search for the medical tray, I… touched a hand!” At this point, Zhao Ru’s breathing raced. She glanced at Jiang Cheng with fear. “But I was sure it was where the medical tray should be. And the patient… I was still holding the patient’s hand because I had just removed the needle from it!”
Jiang Cheng shook from fear but he tried to comfort Zhao Ru. “You were probably too nervous. People’s mind goes to horrible places in the dark.” Jiang Cheng smiled.
“No!” Zhao Ru countered. “I was sure that I touched a hand. And…” Thinking back, her body started to tremble. “The hand was so cold, like it had been inside a fridge.”
“What happened next?”
Zhao Ru turned to Jiang Cheng. Her gaze was different from behind. “There was a lightning.” Zhao Ru’s voice shook. “In that moment of bright light, I saw it… I saw the woman looking at me!
“Her eyes moved. Her pupils turned to where I was!”
“Who was looking at you?” Jiang Cheng pressed. “The woman in bed?”
“Yes.” Zhao Ru was agitated. “She… even spoke to me! She said…” Zhao Ru tightened her grip on Jiang Cheng’s hand as she stared into his eyes, “She said it is coming back!”
Suddenly, lightning flashed. Then, a thundering boom. Rain poured.
Zhao Ru was scared witless. Her body wouldn’t stop shaking. Jiang Cheng kept consoling her. He even let her lean on him.
After a while, she calmed down. She silently moved back as if realising she was being too intimate with Jiang Cheng.
