For some reason, Blind Zheng sighed after saying that. It felt like he had more to say, but it was inappropriate. Jiang Cheng poured another glass of alcohol for Blind Zheng. Strangely enough, Blind Zheng didn’t drink. He only shook his head and sighed again.
“Is there an issue with this woman?” Jiang Cheng finished the glass himself.
“The woman had been staying here for a long time already. It had been… almost a year. Before that, she had always stayed in Room 624. Not everyone could afford Room 624. It had the best amenities. You had to be connected to stay there. However, she stayed there for a year. However, strangely enough.” Blind Zheng frowned. “No one came to visit her for the whole year. Only the nurses and doctors took care of her.” Blind Zheng was confused. “No one came even during the big holidays. And the woman was so young. She was very pretty. Many nurses back then were envious of her. They kept going to her for beauty tips.”
Jiang Cheng frowned. Didn’t the woman have mental issues? Did they heal her so that she could communicate with people normally?
“It’s not what you think.” Blind Zheng shook his head. He whispered mysteriously, “To tell you the truth, the woman… wasn’t even crazy.”
The way Cao Yang looked at Blind Zheng changed. 10 minutes ago, he was the one who claimed that there was something wrong with the woman’s brain. Then… he said that the woman was not crazy. Was he rambling from the alcohol?
In contrast, Jiang Cheng was very patient.
“In fact, the woman was a very nice person.” Blind Zheng remembered, “Whenever the treatment ended, she would thank the nurses and doctors. Whenever I met her, she would actively greet me.”
Jiang Cheng’s fingers around the glass tightened. If Blind Zheng weren’t lying, then the woman was probably imprisoned at the hospital against her will.
At this point, Blind Zheng became agitated. “The poor woman. Even in her state, they refused to let her go.”
“She was framed.” Jiang Cheng had an idea.
“You’re right!” Blind Zheng was indignant. “Back then, there was a rumour that the woman’s husband had an affair with a powerful woman. The other woman didn’t like her, so she found some experts to write up a diagnosis to prove that she was crazy. Then, the woman was sent to our hospital. Without the wife, the disgusting couple could be together freely!”
“How heartless!” Cao Yang hissed. If he were trapped in an enclosed room for a year, being treated as a madman, he would really lose his mind.
“What happened after that?” Jiang Cheng was more concerned about the aftermath. What happened to the woman?
“I don’t know the details, but someone said the husband’s new love got tired and wanted to break up. However, the man refused. The mistress said casually that if he could make his wife disappear forever, then she’d give him a chance. Then… the man really came with a knife!
“It was crazy. That day, the woman had just finished her breakfast. She was lying in bed to rest. However, the man charged in and sliced her neck!
“The blood splatter was so wild that it covered the ceiling!
“The hospital staff tried to save her, but the injury was too deep. Regardless, the staff put on a whole show. After all…” Blind Zheng gritted his teeth. “Something like this would greatly affect the hospital.”
In fact, the hospital could be considered an accomplice. They knew that the woman was not ill, but no one said anything. After all, the longer the treatment, the more money they could gross. And the medical bill was high.
However, the most heartless character was the husband. The person who was crazy was not the woman but her husband.
The things after that were simple. The man failed to escape after murdering his wife. He was cornered inside Room 624. In his despair, he jumped out the window. It was the end of his shameful life. The hospital tried everything to cover this up because once it was exposed, the hospital’s reputation would be dragged through the mud.
“Do you know Room 906?” At this point, Jiang Cheng didn’t hide anything.
“The woman in there was the nurse at the psychiatry department.” Blind Zheng sighed. “Not long after that incident, she went insane.”
“She was probably traumatised,” Cao Yang offered.
Hearing that, Blind Zheng raised his head to stare at Cao Yang. It unsettled him. The room was dim, and Blind Zheng’s eyes were murky. Then, the latter turned to look at Jiang Cheng. However, Jiang Cheng’s eyes didn’t carry much emotion. He continued to drink. His expression was peaceful.
“Do you believe in karma?” Blind Zheng asked Jiang Cheng.
Jiang Cheng nodded. “Yes.”
Blind Zheng gave a long sigh. Then, his hunched-over body straightened.
“The nurse wasn’t traumatised.” Blind Zheng whispered. “She was scared witless.”
“Scared witless?” Cao Yang paled. When Blind Zheng said that, Cao Yang felt the temperature around them drop. He rubbed his arms to warm himself.
“By what?” Jiang Cheng shrugged. “The soul of the woman who died?’
Both Cao Yang and Blind Zheng were stunned. They didn’t think the man would be so brave. Could something like that be uttered so easily?
Blind Zheng took another deep breath. His face was dark. He didn’t say anything to confirm or deny it. He continued with the next story, “Not long after that incident, the nurse was trapped inside the elevator alone during her night shift. When she was saved, she had already fainted, cowering at the corner. She hugged herself tightly as if in defence.
“Her fingers were hooked like claws.” Blind Zheng remembered the details clearly.
“She was rescued but it was pointless. Her mind was damaged.” Blind Zheng turned to Jiang Cheng. “No matter what you asked, she wouldn’t respond. She kept her head lowered and continued to mumble the something.
“Someone leaned close and realized she was repeating…” Blind Zheng suddenly raised his head to glare at Jiang Cheng. He announced, “She is back!”
