Chapter 386: Chapter 236: Go Easy with the Beating [Part 3]
Luna Durant always felt something was lacking.
"They have to be reliable." The voice on the phone suddenly turned cold, "This item definitely can’t be lost."
"...Mm."
Luna paused slightly and could only respond.
*
Pedro Langley did as he said.
Repeated Henry Chapman’s route from yesterday, refusing to change even the order.
Nora Scott visited places and ate dishes with Henry yesterday, and Pedro followed it exactly.
A few times, Nora wanted to "cut some slack" and skip a few spots, but Pedro took out his phone and compared their chat history one by one—
Yesterday, Pedro often chatted with Nora, asking where she was and what she was doing, so Pedro was aware of many details.
Nora was exposed repeatedly by him and eventually gave up, obediently following yesterday’s route.
Honestly, when a jealous man gets serious, it makes you want to beat him to death every moment.
...
Night fell.
Katherine Collins wrapped up her filming in Greenhill Town, announcing the end of the shoot in the afternoon. With free time, she called Nora and arranged to have dinner together.
Pedro originally wanted to remind her that she’s an adult now, eating alone wouldn’t be a problem, and to not disturb them.
However, Nora agreed to Katherine before Pedro could finish his sentence.
"Isn’t she your childhood friend?"
Standing at the entrance of the night market, Nora hung up the phone and gave Pedro a sidelong glance.
"So?"
Nora raised her eyebrows, "What’s wrong with having dinner with her?"
Pedro frowned slightly, "Haven’t I had enough meals with her?"
"Oh..."
Putting her phone back in her pocket, Nora drew out her tone meaningfully.
Pedro squinted, "Not meeting her anymore?"
"Meeting."
She simply tossed out the answer and turned to walk away.
Pedro quickly followed, reached out to pull her, and laughed, "But I smell a bit of jealousy."
"No conflict."
She liked Katherine, didn’t mind bringing Pedro along for dinner with Katherine.
However, knowing Pedro often "had meals" with other women, it still made her a bit uncomfortable.
Luckily, the person is Katherine, if it were someone else...
Pedro would be doomed.
Pedro feared she might mind, so he proactively explained, "She was in a tough spot at home before her marriage, so I occasionally look out for her."
"Mm."
Nora replied blandly.
Lowering his eyes to look at her, Pedro wanted to explain further, but before he could, a light rain suddenly began to fall in the dark sky, pattering down on them quickly.
The weather changed so swiftly.
As his hand holding hers loosened, Nora was momentarily stunned, turning back to look at Pedro, only to see him take off his jacket and put it over her head, his hand pressing down on her head.
"Run?"
Pedro asked with his head close to her ear.
"Oh."
Nora answered.
The parking spot was a bit far, requiring them to walk a stretch, and on the crowded street, there were people leisurely holding umbrellas, as well as those running like them.
One individual after another passed by them.
With the jacket covering her head, she wasn’t drenched as badly. At a certain moment, Nora abruptly shifted her gaze, catching a glimpse of Pedro in the rain through the corner of her eye, avoiding the sunglasses lens.
The neon lights created a surreal backdrop, the light enveloping him in a hazy illusion.
The rain quickly soaked his hair, which flopped down wetly, his dark eyes appeared washed clean, glowing brightly, with a drop sliding off his nose, then down to his neck, blending with the rain into his shirt collar.
The white shirt was mostly seeped through in an instant.
"We’re here."
Suddenly, Pedro’s voice drifted down.
Nora paused, and after gathering herself, realized they had already reached the car.
Opening the front passenger door, Pedro waved his hand in front of her, "Lost in thought?"
"Get in quickly."
Tugging at the jacket, she tossed it at him and bent down to get into the car.
Quickly, Pedro walked around the front of the car, headed to the other side, and sat in the driver’s seat.
Once the door closed, the rain’s pounding outside was cut off, its sound muffled as if from a distance.
Pedro turned on the car light, reached back for a towel, and immediately handed it to Nora, "Got wet, wanna dry off?"
Clutching the towel, Nora paused slightly, looked up, and saw Pedro half soaked, raised an eyebrow, "I can’t be worse off than you, can I?"
Pedro was stunned, his lips gently curved, clearly unconcerned about his soaked state.
Nora suddenly became angry, wrinkling her brow at him, "Head."
"Light punch—"
Just assuming she was revisiting old grievances, Pedro teased when moving closer.
Unexpectedly, before he finished speaking, a towel was slapped on his head.
His vision was blocked, as two soft, slender hands, through the towel, rubbed his hair, the action hardly gentle, rather rough and violent.
Pedro didn’t move.
Letting her wipe him.
Gradually, Nora’s movements were no longer so rough, but she gently wiped with the towel instead.
A minute or two later, she pulled the towel covering his head back slightly, revealing his face.
Messy hair was flattened under the towel, exposing two or three wet strands stuck together across his forehead.
The car’s light wasn’t very bright, but being close, Nora could still see him clearly, seeing only his reflection in his pitch-black eyes.
At a certain moment, her gaze landed on the left side of his brow bone, finding the faint scar visible, Nora paused slightly, her finger unconsciously reaching out to stroke his brow, stopping at the scar.
Not sure if it was an illusion, but she could clearly feel the scar with her fingertips.
"Itchy."
Pedro grabbed her hand, pulling it down.
He smiled, entirely carefree, still cheeky, "Can’t you tease me at the right time next time?"
Ignoring him, Nora’s gaze remained on his left brow, "Can’t it be removed with surgery?"
"Not important." Pedro said indifferently.
"...Oh."
The scar was very light, blending into his thick brows, not easily noticeable.
A few seconds later, Nora finally shifted her gaze, then examined Pedro with a furrowed brow, "Soaked like this, how can you see your childhood friend?"
"Then I won’t see her." Pedro replied quickly.
"..."
Nora stared coldly at him.
Grabbing his hair with the towel, she furiously scrubbed, even reddening his ears.
Pedro let her do as she pleased.
Obviously angry.
But, ultimately, she was worried about him.
After venting, Nora, confirming she had dried his hair pretty well, tugged the towel away, then looking at his soaked shirt, asked, "Cold?"
"A bit."
"Turn the air conditioning up."
"Okay."
Whatever she said, he did.
Leaning back, Nora turned her head to look at him, again reminding him, "Check the weather forecast before going out."
"Okay."
Pedro continued to respond.
"Bring an umbrella."
"Mm."
She spoke sentence by sentence, he responded word for word.
For some reason, the emotions Nora had just suppressed rose again.
"You..."
This time, before she could finish, Pedro extended his hand and grabbed hers, gently squeezing it.
His eyebrows and eyes were graced with a smile, showing his good temper, "Haven’t finished giving me orders?"
"..."
Nora gazed at him silently.
"It’s a small matter, don’t make it bigger." Pedro coaxed her softly, "It’s only natural for me to take care of my girlfriend."
"Mm."
This reasoning was correct.
Yet... remembering past events, Nora’s emotions rose, couldn’t help feeling restless.
Pedro chuckled again, raised his hand to her forehead, lightly flicked her brow with his finger.
Nora glanced coldly, "You—"
Really bold!
"Do you think I, as the bandit chief’s wife, have no ability to protect myself, or that you, as the bandit leader, can’t shield me anymore?" Pedro asked casually.
