Chapter 387: Chapter 237: Are Your Kept Bad Boys Fighting Among Themselves?
"Do you think I, as the lord’s wife, lack the ability to protect myself, or is it that you, the bandit overlord, can’t cover me anymore?" Pedro Langley asked leisurely.
These words held a hint of provocation.
Times change.
The Nora Scott of the past was weak and often neglected in various aspects.
But now—
Nora let out a soft ’hmm’, lifted her eyelids slightly, and said, "Drive."
Like performing a magic trick, Pedro found another towel for her, then stepped on the gas pedal, driving towards the address they’d arranged with Katherine Collins.
The sound of rain outside remained constant. Nora relaxed comfortably back into her seat, holding the towel which she had rolled into a ball.
Her eyes reflected the multicolored river of lights outside the window—vivid and bright, with distant neon lights appearing unreal and hazy. The homes along the way passed by her eyes, leaving brief shadows that vanished instantly.
Nora suddenly turned her head, seeing the man driving with his hair tousled by her, casually combed it down until it was half dry, slightly messy but not unkempt.
With his hair sticking up, his features appeared more prominent, with clear, cold, yet not harsh contours.
This man wasn’t conventionally handsome, but he seemed to grow on her. The more she looked, the more pleasing and delightful he became.
Her emotions brimmed, almost overflowing.
"Staring at me like that might cause an accident,"
After a while, Pedro suddenly turned his head during a red light, teasing with meaningful intent.
"..."
Nora was momentarily stunned, a bit embarrassed to be caught, but with a sufficiently thick skin, she cast him a leisurely glance before slowly shifting her gaze away.
Might as well let him be proud.
*
Not far, just a twenty-minute drive.
As they arrived, Nora glanced out, seeing Katherine Collins standing in the rain with an umbrella.
She carried a backpack, wore a long dress paired with a long coat, looking fresh and elegant. One hand held the umbrella, the other was on a call, speaking something unknown, her lowered gaze exuded joy and tenderness, while the faint light against the umbrella shadow cast lively hues on her fair face.
"Hey, beautiful."
The car window slid down, and Nora leaned out to greet Katherine.
Katherine followed the sound, noticed Nora and Pedro, and smiled joyfully, saying, "They’ve arrived, I’ll hang up now."
Putting away her phone, Katherine quickly walked over, closed her umbrella, and got into the back seat.
"What’s making you so happy?"
Pedro handed the snacks he bought for Nora over from the glove compartment.
After placing her umbrella aside, Katherine looked at the snacks, leaned slightly forward, and asked Pedro with a smile, "Master Pedro, does my Nora need an assistant?"
"I haven’t signed her yet, so I don’t know," Pedro replied lazily, then turned to Nora, "Do you need one?"
"Why?"
Nora turned back.
"My husband allowed me to be your assistant," Katherine said joyfully, adding, "Just as a part-time, mainly helping with your acting."
She had promised earlier to teach Nora how to act.
Said and done.
The previous afternoon, after chatting with Henry Chapman, Katherine went to her husband to find a way to obtain the script of "Reversing Life", stayed up reading it, and was deeply impressed by the storyline.
Having studied Nora’s fighting scenes, Katherine held a special sentiment toward Nora and hoped she could star in a critically acclaimed film.
Meanwhile, she wanted to prove to everyone—she wasn’t just about beauty but had acting skills as well.
When people thought of her, they wouldn’t only picture an "ancient beauty" or a "female knight".
After much thought, the best way to guide Nora seemed to be staying by her side, ready to "advise" her at any time.
"Can you manage?" Nora asked.
"Me," Katherine blinked, pointing to herself, "Unemployed."
Nora: "..."
Birds of a feather flock together.
The unemployed she knew could form their own group.
After a pause, Nora chuckled, "Do you need a salary?"
Tilted her head, Katherine curiously asked, "Will you pay?"
"He will,"
Nora naturally shifted the responsibility to Pedro.
With her eyes slightly curved, Katherine decisively nodded, "Sure."
Pedro: "..." One more salary to pay for no particular reason.
"Sit back properly."
Pedro gave her a sideways glance.
Satisfied, Katherine sat back, fastened her seatbelt, and opened the snack bag to start munching on the little twists inside.
The little twists were definitely bought by Nora.
The previous day, when lunching with Henry and Nora, Katherine had noticed a store selling these twists but had bought the last of them. The three shared them, unanimously agreeing the taste was excellent.
