Chapter 420: Chapter 249: Two Cool Kids, Both Lacking Friends
It’s not surprising that Nora Scott immediately thought along the lines of "Marcus Shaw’s illegitimate child."
After all, the child’s small eyes and nose looked quite like Marcus Shaw’s, and even his demeanor was very similar.
However, after a few careful glances, Nora dismissed this unrealistic idea.
"Hello, sister."
The child, unlike Marcus Shaw, who usually disregarded others, greeted Nora politely.
After changing into slippers, Nora bent down to pick up Rose, then knelt to look at the child eye-to-eye.
She asked, "Where’s Marcus Shaw?"
Andrew Hughes observed the beautiful lady in front of him up close.
Even more beautiful than in the live stream, she was radiant and vibrant, a perfect picture of liveliness and brightness.
She was not dressed up, completely natural, with her long hair tied back, a few strands of soft hair on her forehead, which was smooth and full, and her little face was exquisite and pretty. She dressed simply, a casual jacket paired with jeans, with the jacket open to reveal a white cotton long-sleeve shirt inside.
Casual, fresh, and clean.
Andrew Hughes lowered his cool demeanor a bit, instinctively placing his hands behind his back, and replied meticulously, "He went to buy groceries with Oliver Scott."
"Who are you?"
"Andrew Hughes."
Alright, as long as his last name isn’t "Shaw."
"What’s your relationship with Marcus Shaw?"
"Friends."
Young Andrew Hughes answered very simply.
"..."
This age difference...almost makes it a cross-generational friendship.
Although Marcus Shaw was always perceived as silent and cold-tempered, making him hard to befriend, right now—
Better than nothing.
In a few years, the little kid will grow into a big friend, so treating him well might just mean he’d want to stay friends with Marcus Shaw in the future.
"Did he trick you into coming here?" Nora continued to ask.
Andrew Hughes, almost five years old and able to communicate normally, understood the word "trick."
Even though he didn’t understand how Marcus Shaw was linked to "traffickers," Andrew felt it necessary to clarify, so he explained, "I’m here as a guest."
Oh...
Bringing a child "as a guest" by himself was not much different from "tricking."
Handing Rose over to him, Nora stood up with the intention of calling Marcus Shaw.
However—
"Can’t you just come home once during the weekend?"
The door was ajar, and Marcus Shaw’s cold, frustrated voice came from outside.
Then Oliver Scott innocently explained, "I can’t help it; home is just a battlefield..."
Before he finished speaking, the door was pushed open.
Both of them immediately saw Nora and Andrew stand in the foyer.
Eyes lighting up, Oliver Scott’s bit of gloominess was chased away instantly, and he greeted Nora joyfully, "Sis, you’re back."
Marcus Shaw, still hesitating about whether to greet them or not, heard Oliver’s cheerful voice and opened his mouth, pressed his lips together slightly, said nothing, and swallowed back whatever he was about to say.
He walked in and prepared to change shoes.
"Hmm."
Nora responded, casually taking the grocery bags from Marcus Shaw’s hands, looked through them, didn’t find any snacks she liked, and then disappointedly carried the bags further inside.
When passing by Andrew Hughes, she paused, turned sideways, and raised an eyebrow at the two of them, "Care to explain?"
"Right away."
It was still Oliver Scott who responded to Nora.
Nora turned and went into the living room.
Marcus Shaw glanced down at the shallow marks left by the grocery bags on his palms, bent down a second later to untie his shoelaces and change shoes.
With Oliver Scott here, there’s no need for Marcus Shaw to explain anything.
When Nora was not around, Oliver would go on calling "sis" every other sentence, and now that Nora was back, Oliver was especially eager to chat with Nora.
There was indeed much to talk about.
During this time, Nora was busy outside, and although her phone was on, she was too busy to chat with anyone, mostly just talking to Pedro Langley.
Oliver Scott had a lot bottled up.
The conversation veered from Andrew Hughes to knowing she was Zero, to the sensation Nora’s livestreams caused at their school... Of course, where it concerned family, like Alma Ferreira and Sophie Scott, Oliver didn’t bother Nora with it.
The two of them chatted enthusiastically, leaving Marcus Shaw with no chance to interject at all. After a brief thought, he took the groceries into the kitchen.
"Marcus Shaw."
He had just entered the kitchen when little Andrew Hughes followed him in.
He was still holding Rose, and after some time, it was getting a bit tiring.
"If you want snacks, go outside."
"No." Andrew Hughes took a few steps closer to his long legs, looked up slightly, and asked, "Why didn’t you chat with your sister?"
"..."
Marcus Shaw gently furrowed his brows.
Andrew Hughes freed a hand, tugged at Marcus Shaw’s shirt hem, and reminded, "Both being brothers, Oliver is much closer to her."
Not even real siblings...
In his heart, Marcus Shaw retorted, "What’s it to you?"
