Chapter 421: Chapter 249: Two Cool Kids, Both Lacking Friends (Part 2)
"Do you know why Oliver Scott has so many friends, but you don’t?" Andrew Hughes, in a little adult manner, with his brows furrowed in worry, imitated Sir Hughes’s tone of speaking, painstakingly lecturing, "It’s because you don’t know how to talk."
Kids may not understand much, but they certainly know how to imitate.
Staring down at him, Marcus Shaw reached out one hand, palm up, fingers spread wide.
He said with a slight challenge, "Start counting your friends."
Andrew Hughes, hit where it hurts, widened his eyes a bit, his cheeks puffing up as he stared at Marcus Shaw with some defiance.
Then, letting go of his clothes, he grabbed Marcus Shaw’s forefinger, pushing it into his palm, folding it in.
He said crisply, "Marcus Shaw."
"One."
Marcus Shaw lazily lowered his eyes, counting for him.
Andrew Hughes gritted his teeth, glaring at him in irritation.
Marcus Shaw acted like he was invisible.
Soon, Andrew Hughes was pushing another of Marcus Shaw’s fingers inward, speaking with a bit of lack of confidence, "Marcus Shaw."
"..."
Marcus Shaw said nothing.
"Marcus Shaw."
Andrew Hughes grabbed his third finger.
Freeing his fingers, Marcus Shaw flipped his hand, directly placing it on Andrew Andrew Hughes’ head.
Holding Rose in one arm, Andrew Hughes could only free one hand to try and pull it off, but obviously, no matter how much he pulled, Marcus Shaw’s hand didn’t budge.
"Even."
Marcus Shaw sneered, withdrawing his hand.
Andrew Hughes, unwilling to admit defeat, said, "Give me another ten years—"
"And you still won’t have any friends."
Marcus Shaw threw back, cool as a cucumber.
"..."
Little Andrew Hughes was struck speechless by Marcus Shaw’s brutal prediction.
"Marcus Shaw, Oliver Scott has a mom and dad, and you have nothing." Andrew Hughes found a way to fight back, speaking with the blunt directness of a child, "When this sister is taken away, you won’t have a single family member left."
"..."
Marcus Shaw, face darkened, threw him out of the kitchen.
As soon as Andrew Hughes steadied himself, the kitchen door was slammed shut with a "bang".
"Did you mess with his kitchen?"
Oliver, noticing the unusual, asked curiously.
Andrew Hughes quickly collected all his little emotions, shot Oliver a cold, cool look, "No."
Saying this, he wrapped an arm around Rose, and with short, small steps, walked to Marcus Shaw’s bedroom.
Refusing to talk to Oliver.
"..."
Oliver felt totally baffled.
Nora Scott, supporting her chin with one hand, glanced at Andrew Hughes’s back, wanting to explore where that familiar feeling came from, but upon thinking deeper, couldn’t find a specific answer.
Forget it.
Throwing herself back, Nora Scott opened a bag of chips found in Oliver’s shopping bag, glanced at Marcus Shaw’s bedroom door, "What’s up with his parents?"
In the explanation Oliver just gave, he only mentioned that Andrew Hughes was staying with his grandfather, and since his grandfather wasn’t home, Andrew Hughes was left with Marcus Shaw.
No mention of Andrew Hughes’s parents.
"I heard it’s a single-parent family," Oliver explained, "His father is unknown, and his mother is a er, often overseas, rarely comes back."
"Overseas?"
"Yeah, a frontline journalist for the state media."
"Oh."
Nora Scott nodded slightly.
A war correspondent for the official media... quite a significant background.
After eating a chip, Nora Scott casually asked, "What about his grandfather?"
"Marcus Shaw said he’s an old detective," Oliver explained, "Recently caught up in some case, so he couldn’t take care of Andrew Hughes."
Nora let out a small "Hmm."
At this time, the kitchen door opened and Marcus Shaw walked out.
"The soy sauce is—"
Mid-sentence, Marcus Shaw’s gaze landed on the chips in Nora’s hand, then his brows furrowed as he looked at Oliver, his eyes full of scrutiny.
"The soy sauce is with me!"
Feeling a bit guilty, Oliver immediately picked up the conversation, dug out the soy sauce from the shopping bag, and then in flip-flops, willingly brought it to Marcus Shaw.
Handing it over with both hands.
Marcus Shaw, slightly dark-faced, took the soy sauce, his voice simmering with irritation, "Didn’t I tell you to put it back?"
"It’s just one bag..." Oliver mumbled in explanation, under Marcus Shaw’s warning gaze, quickly confirming, "Really, just one bag!"
Because he liked Andrew Hughes a lot, last week, Oliver bought him a ton of snacks.
A four- or five-year-old, no matter how much self-control, can’t resist the temptation of junk food. Because of Oliver’s pile of snacks, Andrew Hughes barely ate for a day. Naturally, upon learning the truth, Marcus Shaw gave Oliver a scolding.
Today, while accompanying Marcus Shaw to the supermarket, Oliver wanted to make the same mistake, but Marcus Shaw stopped him.
Yet, in the end...
Oliver’s sneaky hands managed to get one bag through under Marcus Shaw’s nose.
Seeing Marcus Shaw hard to appease, Oliver tugged at his sleeve, softly asking, "Sister is the one eating, so it’s okay, right?"
