Chapter 27: Blood Ties, Ultimately Unbreakable
"Alright, alright, since everyone’s here, let’s start the meeting quickly."
The squinting-eyed young man chuckled, standing between the group as if the serious atmosphere he’d stirred up had nothing to do with him.
At the Emperor’s signal, the ministers hurriedly scurried out.
The Servant led the group into the Reception Room, then left in a rush.
The seemingly amicable group was, in reality, already at daggers drawn, the air thick with tension as if it might blow the Reception Room apart.
"The main purpose of this meeting is still to maintain the treaty between the three nations. Regarding this, does National Teacher Kavita have anything to say?"
Eryus’s youngest National Teacher, Kavita had ascended to his position in his twenties.
Despite everyone viewing this irreverent National Teacher as a good-for-nothing, no one dared question his status.
In just a few years since his rise, he had dealt with several neighboring countries eyeing Eryus with greed, some of their kings even dragging their families to the capital to beg for mercy.
Now representing his nation in this meeting, his status was no different from that of Eryus’s emperor.
At this moment, he opened his golden, scrutinizing eyes, sizing up Emperor Miles.
"I don’t have much to say, but some things need to be addressed. Your country’s Clover Family, I hear, has been quite close with our nation’s envoys."
"Of course, we welcome deeper friendly relations between our two nations, but—surely it shouldn’t bypass the etiquette between countries?"
National Teacher Kavita casually jabbed at Emperor Miles.
After all, the Clover Family, as the Empress’s maternal clan, couldn’t possibly have overly close ties with another nation’s family without permission—either the ruler had secretly allowed it.
"Of course, I will thoroughly investigate this matter and give your country an explanation."
Anger gradually crept onto Miles’s face, but he could only suppress it and continue the meeting.
Seeing this, National Teacher Kavita returned to his squinting, nonchalant demeanor.
At that moment, another voice spoke from the meeting table.
"Your Majesty, this old man has entrusted our Highness to represent us at this meeting, but I also have an uninvited request,
cough cough
…"
Ados Caesar, the former strongest general of Saito’s Empire, had fought alongside the previous king in countless campaigns, earning great merits and receiving a title named after the nation itself, surpassing those incompetent old nobles in one fell swoop.
In Saito’s Empire, where strength reigned supreme, if someone wanted to replace the emperor, as long as Ados Caesar stood behind them, the emperor would obediently hand over the crown.
Yet, due to Ados Caesar’s unwavering loyalty, the Caesar Family had become the sword and shield of the empire.
Though he was now in his sixties, the old general’s heroic aura had only grown stronger.
A single glance could deeply intimidate others—this was the Aura of Power of Saito’s Grand Duke.
And now, he was asking for a favor?
"I have a daughter who went missing years ago. She ran away from home after a fight with me. At the time, I was furious and, in a fit of anger, disowned her…"
Ados Caesar had spent his life fighting for his country, neglecting his son and daughter.
His eldest daughter, resentful of his coldness toward the family, had a huge argument with him and stormed out.
In his anger, the Grand Duke publicly declared he had severed ties with her, only to learn days later the devastating news that she had been swept away by a raging river, her whereabouts unknown.
The Grand Duke and his wife turned white-haired overnight, but with the family newly ennobled and old nobles watching their every move, he had to steel himself for the sake of his young son and grieving wife.
"I’ve sent people searching for her at home and abroad for over a decade. Recently, someone told me she had once come to your country with a man. So, I ask Your Majesty to send people to find her, even if it’s just her…"
The request of Saito’s Grand Duke, a man feared by thousands, showed how deeply this matter weighed on him.
If one could earn a favor from the Grand Duke through this.
"Rest assured, Your Excellency the Grand Duke. Though I am but a frail scholar, I will do my utmost to help you find your beloved daughter."
Before the Emperor could respond, National Teacher Kavita eagerly expressed his sympathy and sincerity to Saito’s Grand Duke.
The Emperor, a step behind, could only nod in agreement.
"When she left, she took the sword I gave her, one I had specially commissioned from a craftsman. That Silver Sword—if it’s placed before me, I’d recognize it in an instant…"
In the Amethyst Palace, Yiwen Kelake sat leisurely in the Back Garden, gazing at her flowerbed.
Behind her, Kafu still wore a hesitant expression, looking at his mistress, wanting to say something but stopping halfway.
"Kafu, you don’t need to persuade me."
"But, Your Highness…"
Yiwen clutched the gleaming Silver Sword in her hands.
The sunlight hit the hilt, and along the sword’s unique patterns, the light formed colorful, wondrous designs spreading across the blade.
"No matter what, I cannot forgive them."
"I cannot forgive them on behalf of my mother."
On the streets, people were discussing the outcome of the three-nation meeting.
Some self-proclaimed eyewitnesses loudly proclaimed the Emperor’s coal-black expression as he left, while others talked about the other two key figures of the meeting.
Lina carried a basket of Loka’s favorite vegetables, planning to show off her cooking skills back at the palace.
Lately, Miss rarely came home, and she hadn’t had a chance to feed her.
She looked so much thinner.
"Miss, is this Saito’s Grand Duke really that impressive? I heard so many people talking about him."
Saito’s Grand Duke?
In my previous life, I had indeed heard news of his visit to the Austin Empire at this time, but within three years, word came of his death.
What exactly had he come here to do, and what happened after he left?
All I knew was that after the Grand Duke’s death, a rift inexplicably formed between the two nations, laying the groundwork for the empire’s eventual collapse.
As Loka was still pondering, a runaway Carriage charged toward her from behind.
By the time she reacted, she only had time to push Lina out of the way.
The metal horseshoe was about to smash into her face the next second.
At the critical moment, a mysterious figure grabbed her and rolled to the other side of the street.
But the Carriage, as if possessed, barreled toward Loka again with deadly intent.
The mysterious cloaked man shielded Loka behind him, drew the sword from his waist, and with a fierce strike of the blade’s back, the immense force flipped the Carriage over.
A Black-Clad Figure fled in panic.
Another hired Assassin, as expected?
If not for this man, I might truly have been done for.
Loka softly blew her Delicate Little Whistle, and a figure chased after the fleeing Black Clad Figure.
She brushed the dirt off herself and looked at the mysterious cloaked man who had saved her.
He removed his cloak, revealing fiery red hair.
"Child, are you alright?"
"I’m fine, thank you…"
Loka was astonished to find that the gentle man had a pair of eyes that felt incredibly familiar, gleaming like Purple Amethyst.
