Chapter 180

Chapter 180: How can an old man be this possessive
The two of them had ordered six dishes, and a dessert—quite a spread—and were now quietly waiting for Sarah to arrive.
They had chosen an elegant private room with a large aquarium, where colorful koi fish darted back and forth behind the glass, lively and carefree.
Sarah sent Beauty a message saying that Ryan would be coming with her and that the two were already on their way.
Beauty called the waiter over to add two more dishes to the order and requested a bottle of whiskey.
"Seems like Sarah really sees this Ryan guy as her boyfriend now," Lucas remarked, lighting a cigarette and squinting slightly as smoke curled around his face.
The haze gave him an almost ethereal air, like some immortal cultivator from legend, though his brows carried a hint of worldly concern.
Beauty took a sip of mango juice and arched a delicate eyebrow at him.
"What, are men the only ones allowed to play the game while dating?
Can’t women find someone who actually cares about them after a breakup?"
Lucas scoffed, flicking ash from his cigarette with a lazy motion, his sharp eagle-like eyes glinting coldly.
Without looking at her, he replied, "What kind of nonsense logic is that?" Beauty rolled her eyes, pressing her lips together before retorting with a raised brow, "You men are all the same—rules for thee but not for me.
Why shouldn’t Sarah move on?
It’s been ages since she and Drake broke up.
She deserves her own life, her own happiness.
Don’t you think?" Lucas didn’t respond immediately.
After a brief silence, he leaned back into the sofa, stubbed out his cigar, and exhaled a long stream of white smoke.
With a faint, mocking smile, he finally met her gaze.
"Sarah would never fall for a guy like Ryan.
I know her."
"So what?" Beauty shot back.
"If being with him makes her happy, that’s all that matters.
Sometimes, women don’t ask for much."
Beauty shot back with a retort, almost treating the handsome man before her as Drake to scold.
In her mind, bad company corrupts good morals.
Lucas spent so much time with Drake that his way of thinking was practically assimilated.
"And what about you? What is it you really want? Happiness, joy, or a stable life?
All of that, I, Lucas, can give you."
Seeing the serious expression on the older man’s face, Beauty blinked slowly, her eyes glinting with amusement.
With a soft, knowing smile, she replied, "I want to realize my own worth—just like Sarah.
Even without relying on men, I can carve out my own little world.
" "You want to be a career woman like Sarah?
There’s no need for that.
You have me.
Your situation is different from hers."
Lucas answered without hesitation, crushing that idea in its cradle.
Beauty shot him an annoyed look.
"No matter what, I still want to prove my own value.
You know I don’t want to be your assistant forever—otherwise, my design talent would just go to waste."
No sooner had she spoken than the private room’s door swung open.
Sarah and Ryan walked in, smiling warmly as they greeted Beauty .
As the waiter served the dishes, Ryan thoughtfully picked out food for Sarah, every bit the perfect boyfriend.
Beauty watched with a dreamy expression, as if those dishes were being served to her instead.
Lucas cast her a sidelong glance, then smirked devilishly before placing food onto her plate.
"Here, sweetheart, try this.
It’s pretty good."
Suddenly, all eyes turned to Lucas—including Beauty’s, who froze in shock, her cheeks instantly flushing pink.
Being called "sweetheart" by him in front of friends was... an entirely new experience, sending her heart racing uncontrollably.
Even Sarah across the table couldn’t resist giving her a teasing wink.
She took a small bite of the food without saying a word, her eyes darting around nervously, deliberately avoiding locking gazes with anyone.
"Lucas, thank you for everything you’ve done for me and my family these past few days.
Beauty is a wonderful girl, and I hope you’ll cherish her."
Sarah picked up the wine glass on the table, her expression solemn as she addressed Lucas.
Then, she downed the red wine in one gulp, a faint smile lingering on her lips.
"I will."
Those three simple words made Beauty’s heart race so fast she could barely speak.
She busied herself with the food on her plate, her cheeks flushing a delicate shade of pink.
After dinner, Ryan offered to drive Sarah home, while Beauty clung to someone’s hand like an affectionate puppy, beaming as she eagerly climbed into the passenger seat of his car.
The entire ride back, she was practically buzzing with excitement, gripping his arm tightly and refusing to let go even after they arrived at the villa.
As soon as they stepped into the grand foyer, the sound of Laura’s voice reached them, mingled with the voices of Samuel and Cynthia.
Instantly, she released Lucas’s arm and walked inside with an impassive expression.
Upon seeing Beauty, Samuel and Cynthia visibly hesitated before greeting her with forced politeness.
"Brother and sister-in-law are back!
Where have you been these past couple of days?"
Laura’s sudden warmth made her uncomfortable, and she instinctively put some distance between herself and Lucas.
"Beauty." Samuel took the initiative to greet her, dressed in a crisp white casual outfit.
But before she could respond, she was abruptly dragged upstairs by a certain someone.
Beauty turned back briefly, offering Samuel an apologetic smile.
At that moment, her head was forcibly turned by someone, the strength in his grip making her feel like he might snap her neck clean off.
The door slammed shut with a bang as the man threw her heavily onto the bed.
Thankfully, the mattress was made of soft, plush silicone, cushioning her fall with a gentle bounce—otherwise, she might have ended up with broken bones.
"What are you doing?"
Beauty frowned up at him, irritation flashing in her eyes.
"Seeing you talk to that Samuel guy pisses me off."
His handsome face was cold as ice, but the sight of it made her burst into laughter.
For the first time, she found his jealousy both domineering and oddly endearing.
Noticing her sudden amusement, Lucas’s expression darkened further.
His long, well-defined fingers gripped her chin, tilting her face up as a wicked smirk curled his lips.
Then he leaned down and bit her lower lip, savoring it like a delicate dessert.
He didn’t let go until Beauty’s lips had nearly gone numb from the assault.
"Don’t you dare flirt with other men," he growled.
"If I catch you again, dragging you into a room to stake my claim will be the least of your worries.
Maybe I’ll just prove my dominance right in front of him."
Beauty: "..." How could anyone be this possessive?
All she did was politely greet an old friend—it wasn’t like she was cheating on him!
