Chapter 199: The Truth about Samantha’s Pregnancy
Only after watching her take the medicine did Lucas finally leave.
As the sound of his car faded into the distance, Beauty let out a long sigh of relief, stretched lazily, and pulled out a fresh sheet of white drawing paper.
The foundation of her design was already complete, every fluid line on the page brimming with her passion and dedication.
This piece was her love letter—a guardian’s promise, inspired by a story her father had told her long ago, a story about her mother.
Back then, she had been too young to understand it fully.
All she remembered was that her mother had been gifted in design, and her father would often flip through a sketchbook with a wistful expression.
But after his fatal car accident, her grandparents had burned everything connected to him and her mother, erasing them from her world as if they had never existed.
*"Daddy, why do the other kids say Mommy was a bad woman?
That she had no shame?"
*"Don’t listen to them, Beauty.
Your mother passed away right after you were born.
She wasn’t like that at all."
Fragments of those childhood conversations resurfaced in her mind, and tears welled up before she could stop them.
She had never seen her mother’s grave—not even a photograph.
Her grandparents had forbidden anyone from mentioning her, and once, when she had carelessly brought her up, her grandmother had beaten her with a bamboo until she sobbed in pain.
Strangely, last night, in the haze of her fever, those buried memories had flooded back with startling clarity—scenes she thought she’d forgotten, now surging forth without warning.
--- **Marson Group Headquarters, CEO’s Office**
Lucas had just wrapped up a video conference when he stepped into his office and spotted the man lounging on his sofa, sipping coffee with one leg casually crossed over the other.
"Who gave you permission to walk in here?" Lucas’s voice was icy as he poured himself a latte.
"This office houses confidential documents.
Seems I’ll need to have a word with Lena about how exactly you bribed her."
He strode over and took a seat beside Drake, his dark eyes unreadable.
Drake’s face was ashen as he leaned back on the sofa, ignoring Lucas’s words, seemingly lost in his own thoughts.
"What brings you here?
Don’t tell me it’s about that jewelry ad collaboration again?"
Lucas crossed his legs gracefully, his slender fingers resting lightly on Drake’s shoulder.
A faint smirk played on his lips as he studied the other man’s handsome face.
"Lucas, I’ve uncovered something."
Drake’s expression darkened as he met Lucas’s gaze, and immediately, the smile faded from Lucas face.
Having known Drake for so long, he could tell from his grave demeanor that this was serious.
After a long silence, Drake spoke again: "I’ve had someone looking into Samantha recently.
I found out she’s been getting close to another man—the son of a major shareholder in her father’s Group.
He returned from abroad six months ago.
I don’t know when they got involved, but given how long Samantha stayed overseas, it’s likely they didn’t meet here."
Lucas’s eyes narrowed.
"Are you saying Samantha has been seeing someone else behind your back?"
"No concrete evidence yet, but they’ve been meeting privately quite often.
Still, she’s pregnant—what kind of man would willingly get involved with a pregnant woman?"
A cold glint flashed in Drake’s eyes as he clenched his fists, his face frozen in fury.
He had originally believed Samantha got pregnant out of love, thinking she wanted to secure his heart.
Never had he imagined she’d betray him like this.
Just when he was ready to take responsibility, he stumbled upon this truth—it infuriated him beyond words.
He had even wronged Sarah for Samantha’s sake.
If this turned out to be true, he would never let Samantha and that man off easily.
Lucas took a cigar from the drawer and lit it, his brows furrowed tightly.
After a few seconds of silence, he finally spoke in a chilling tone: "So you suspect the child she’s carrying isn’t yours?"
"I should’ve doubted it sooner!
But Sarah’s situation clouded my judgment, and with my parents pressuring me, I forced myself to accept it.
Lately, I’ve spent more time with Samantha and noticed some oddities—that’s why I started digging." Drake’s face relaxed with a hint of relief as he spoke.
He had originally thought he would be bound to Samantha and the child in her womb for the rest of his life.
But then he discovered Samantha’s affair with another man.
The once-calm surface of the lake rippled slightly, and something buried deep within him began to stir again.
Now, he had another chance to pursue Sarah.
Whether she gave him the opportunity or not, whether she forgave him or not, he was determined to try.
Even if rejected, he wouldn’t regret it for the rest of his life.
Lucas stubbed out his cigarette in the crystal ashtray, his cold gaze lifting slightly as he spoke in a low voice, "So, what’s your plan?
Expose Samantha in front of your parents?"
"No.
I’ll expose her and that man in front of everyone.
But right now, I don’t have solid evidence, so I can’t tip her off."
Drake took a small sip of coffee, his Adam’s apple bobbing slightly.
In New York, both Drake and Lucas were men no one dared to cross.
Now, not only had Samantha offended him, but she had also ruined the life of the woman he loved.
There was no way he would let her off easily.
A cold glint flashed in Drake eyes as his fists clenched tightly, a disdainful snort escaping his lips.
Lucas stood and walked to the floor-to-ceiling window, gazing down at the sprawling city below.
Marson Group’s headquarters stood tall in the heart of paris, its skyscraper piercing the clouds.
The CEO’s office, located on the 28th floor, was surrounded by panoramic windows that offered a breathtaking view of the entire city.
After a brief silence, Lucas finally spoke, his voice measured, "Samantha had feelings for you back in school.
If she was already involved with that man, why would she claim the child was yours?
Was it just to get back at Sarah?
If that was her goal, she’s already succeeded—so why agree to marry you by the end of the year?"
He paused.
"Have you ever considered that?"
The question struck Drake like a revelation.
A thought he had never entertained before surfaced—her family’s ambition wasn’t just to swallow Sarah’s family company, but to devour the Drake empire as well.
He had underestimated this woman who had approached him under the guise of love.
It seemed that sometimes, those caught in the game truly were the blindest.
"Lucas," Drake said slowly, "did you suspect Samantha’s ulterior motives all along?"
Knowing Lucas as he did, the man would never have voiced such suspicions without absolute certainty.
