Chapter 127: Chapter 65 Picking Up Grain Ears_2
A few children divided up the pancakes and started eating heartily.
Just as Lian Manman took a bite, she saw two people leading a horse toward them, with someone seated atop it.
"Eh," the horse suddenly stopped beside Lian Manman, and the one on it was a chubby boy. He didn’t wait for the servants following him to lift him down and jumped off the horse himself.
"Oh my lord, you should have told us before getting off the horse. If you fell and got hurt, how could we explain it?" The two servants both cried out in alarm.
"Never mind you." Little Fatty pushed the servants aside and ran up to Lian Manman, "Big-footed girl, what are you doing on my family’s land here?"
Lian Manman looked up and recognized him. Wasn’t this the annoying chubby boy she had encountered at Imperial Doctor Shi’s house?
As the saying goes, at the age of seven or eight, children can be a nuisance, and looking at the little boy, Lian Manman figured he must be around that age. It was really rare to see children as well-behaved as Xiao Qi at this age.
Lian Manman didn’t want to deal with this little brat, so she turned her head, pretending to look elsewhere.
The little boy hopped twice and landed in front of Lian Manman again.
Lian Manman turned her head to the other side, but the boy hopped once more and stood in front of her again, grinning as if Lian Manman was playing some exciting new game with him.
Lian Manman felt somewhat helpless and suddenly thought to ask the little guy something.
"I am here to gather the grains left on the field." Lian Manman replied gently, "By the way, how is Imperial Doctor Shi?"
The little chubby boy, pleased that Lian Manman was engaging with him, came over to sit next to her. One of the servants immediately laid a brocade cushion on the ground.
"Big-footed girl, sit on this for you." The little chubby boy offered Lian Manman the brocade cushion.
Lian Manman’s impression of the little chubby boy improved a bit seeing that he had a brocade cushion and was offering it to her instead of sitting down on it himself.
"You take a seat. I have this," Lian Manman said. She didn’t sit directly on the ground but had picked some straw and also placed a kerchief on top.
"You sit on that cushion, I’ll sit on yours," insisted the little chubby boy, "Otherwise, I won’t tell you about my uncle grandpa."
So, Imperial Doctor Shi was this little chubby boy’s Uncle Grandpa.
Lian Manman needed to ask him something and thought it was not worth arguing with a child, so she switched seats with him.
The little chubby boy sat down and looked at Lian Manman.
"Why not finish your snack first, then I will tell you," he said.
Lian Manman suddenly remembered she was still holding a pancake roll in her hand that she hadn’t eaten.
"Our country home’s food might not suit your taste," Lian Manman said, looking aside. The handsome sorrel horse that the little chubby boy had ridden, as well as his two well-dressed young servants, caught her eye. And the little chubby boy himself, needless to say, was dressed in silk, with a golden necklace around his neck, a purse tied at his waist, and pink satin boots on his feet. "The people with you wouldn’t let you eat just anything outside."
"They all work for me and listen to me," stated the little chubby boy, "I’m used to eating it; I’m just afraid you don’t want to share with me."
Indeed, the little chubby boy was tough to shake off. Lian Manman thought for a moment; her food was very clean, and it tasted good, so it wouldn’t be a problem to share some with him.
"If you don’t mind, then I’ll share half with you," Lian Manman offered the pancake roll to the little chubby boy.
The little chubby boy broke off half the roll and took a bite.
"Tasty, no wonder you didn’t want to share it with me."
Lian Manman decided not to stoop to the little rascal’s level.
"I still don’t know your name," Lian Manman asked.
"I’m Shen Qian. Big-footed girl, what’s your name?"
"I’m Lian Manman, this is my sister, Lian Zhizhi, and my brother..." Lian Manman introduced Shen Qian to Lian Zhizhi, Wu Lang, and Xiao Qi.
Shen Qian greeted each one and then said to Lian Manman: "You were asking about my Uncle Grandpa; he has returned to Prefecture City. Is someone in your family sick again? I can ask my Uncle Grandpa to come back."
Your family is the one with the sickness again, Lian Manman thought sarcastically.
"I see, when will he be back? We would like to thank him," Lian Manman asked.
"Hard to say, you should come to Prefecture City," Shen Qian replied after swallowing his half of the roll and looking longingly at the half still in Lian Manman’s hand. She’d been so caught up in talking that she hardly ate any of it.
"I’ve eaten this already, it wouldn’t be good to give it to you now," Lian Manman said politely.
"I don’t mind," laughed little Fatty Shen Qian, his white teeth shining as he reached for the roll in Lian Manman’s hand.
