Chapter 186: Pick Up
Adam smiles with satisfaction as he finishes the song.
’That was quite a reaction,’ He thinks, smirking as he did catch Julia watching him.
His song dazed her, made her panic. He himself could feel the emotions he poured into his song, so it’s safe to assume Julia felt it too, knowing that this song relates to her conflicted feelings as well.
Adam feels proud. He can’t believe he just mastered playing piano so fast. Well, that only two songs, but still, the one he just played was perfect, both in technique and in evoking emotions.
Sure, there is still a lot more Adam could learn; there are thousands of pieces of music to learn, and there is also the aspect of creating his own music, which requires imagination and creativity.
’I should continue practicing more songs and refine my hearing,’ Adam thinks.
The thing about his body is, he doesn’t need to force his body into making repeated motions over and over again to get his muscles memorized to the music.
The reason great piano players practice over and over again is to get familiar with the music so that they can play it blind folded, but Adam doesn’t have that problem.
First, he has perfect pitch. Second, his hands can move faster than any normal human’s. Third, his special awareness is beyond human limits, so he is scary accurate.
Adam’s never going to miss a key or hit the wrong one. He only needs to listen to a song once, and he will know how to play it. That’s how scary good his body is.
’Maybe I should look into other instruments as well,’ Adam thinks. He doesn’t plan to give up on piano, but now that he understands the very essence of the sound and the layout of the piano, every song will be just a listen away from perfection.
His versions will be perfect, too perfect, like a robot, but it would be good enough to impress 99 percent of the people. There will be a few who will criticize Adam for not having any soul in his playing, but then again, he can just pour his emotions into music he can relate to.
Just these few hours of listening and practicing have made Adam better than almost any piano player ever to exist.
’Maybe I should try the violin,’ He thinks before retiring to his computer to play some games and pass the time before he goes and picks up Lana for the concert.
When you are playing games and are on a legendary winning streak, time just flies by. Luckily, Adam had an alarm set up, knowing that he might get engrossed in the game and forget about picking up Lana.
It’s 6 PM, he exits his game, and starts getting ready. A quick shower later, he puts on something casual by stylish, sprays some perfume, and heads out.
On his way down, he sees Xu Lin and informs her that he might be late or not come back tonight, so there is no need for her to make his portion of dinner.
Xu Lin wishes him a safe outing as Adam gets in his car and drives away.

Evening traffic is annoying, but Adam floors his accelerator every time he gets a chance to hit high speeds, so he manages to reach Clara’s house on time.
Parking his car right in front of their porch, he walks up to Clara’s house and rings the bell.
He hears muffled words being thrown around inside the house. Mother and daughter are probably arguing over something.
A minute later, the door finally opens.
"Adam, you are here," Clara says with a smile on her face.
"I am, I did promise you... So, is Lana ready?" Adam asks, looking in.
"She is, give her a few seconds," Clara says and yells for Lana. Lana storms out of the kitchen. She doesn’t look happy.
Her brows are scrunched, while her eyes have this icy glare. She gives Adam a cold glare before storming past him.
"Love you, be careful. Make sure you don’t cause Adam any trouble," Clara says.
"Fuck off," Lana says rudely.
"Looks like Lana doesn’t want me here," Adam says.
"Don’t worry about that. She will get used to your presence. You both were, after all, childhood friends. Also, please look after her," Clara says as her eyes go gentle on Adam.
Adam nods. "You don’t have to worry, I will be there."
"Good, one more thing, she is seeing this guy named Rein, make sure he understands that he needs to take good care of my daughter," Clara says, her tone getting a little chilly.
Adam chuckles. "Oh, now you want me to be an enforcer as well?" Adam questions.
"I know you can, what are you going to do with all those martial art classes you are taking in not scaring people?" Clara says.
"Fine, I will make sure he is good to Lana," Adam says.
"I knew I could count on my sweet boy~" Clara says, and hugs Adam, and he hugs her back.
"Okay, you should leave now before she starts throwing tantrums again. Here, take this," Clara says, handing over a concert ticket to Adam.
’I almost forgot about this,’ He thinks as he takes it off her hand before turning around to see Lana standing next to his car with her arms folded as she taps her leg rapidly.
"Well, I will take my leave then, have a good night," Adam says and walks towards Lana.
"Ready?" Adam asks.
"Ugh, finally!" Lana says. Adam ignores her bratty behavior. He unlocks his car and gets in, and waits for her.
Once she is in, he starts the engine and takes off.
.
.
It’s been five minutes into the ride, and they have not spoken a word to each other. Lana still looks annoyed, while Adam doesn’t care.
He reaches out for his dashboard and puts on a radio, which gets Lana’s attention.
She looks at the radio and then at Adam.
’He is very handsome,’ she thinks as she looks at his side profile. His angular, sharp jawline and his wavy, thick black hair make him look like one of those supermodels she has seen in magazines.
"Why did you come?" She finally breaks the silence.
Adam turns to look at her. "What do you mean?" He asks.
"Why agree to tag along with me?" She asks. "Clara asked me nicely, so I said yes," Adam says.
"Just because she asked you, you said yes?" Lana asks, surprised. "Why not? She is helping me a lot with my work, I can at least return the favor by keeping an eye on you," Adam says.
"I don’t need you to watch over me," Lana says, defensive.
"That’s not what your mother said," Adam says, smirking.
"She is just being paranoid. Once we get there, leave me alone," Lana says.
"No can do, I made a promise to your mother. And I keep my promises," Adam says. He is having fun teasing Lana.
He recalls one of his childhood memories with her, where he used to tease her and she would go running to his mother, crying, and tell on him. His mother would then fake disciplining him for it.
Those were some memories, Adam had suppressed deep inside his head. Those moments were when he was innocent and happy.
Lana might be a rude brat, but her being here made Adam remember some pleasant memories of him and his mother, so he will continue to tolerate her rude behavior.
"Ugh, you are so annoying!" She yells and goes back to being silent.
Adam just smiles and turns up the volume of his speakers as the music on the radio sounds catchy and nice to hear.
They don’t talk much during the rest of the ride. Lana keeps her silence, only taking time to glance at Adam every few minutes. As much as she is finding him annoying right now, she can’t help but be drawn in by his good looks.
Her eyes especially linger on his muscular forearms as they rest on top of the steering wheel. She finds his lean, veiny, muscular forearms very hot.
’Fuck! Why does he have to be so good-looking?’ She questions herself.
She feels angry at him, but she can’t help but find him attractive at the same time.
Luckily for her, the torture doesn’t last long.
She sees that they are close to the event, so she takes out her phone and calls someone.
"Yes, I am close by.... Where?.... Alright, I will be there in five minutes... Okay... Can’t wait," Lana ends the call.
"We are entering through gate three," She says, turning to Adam.
Adam just nods and takes out his phone to message Crill to ask him if he is there or not.
Crill quickly replies, saying they too are about to get here. Adam then tells Crill to meet him at gate three.
"Who was that?" Lana asks curiously.
"My friends. They will be joining us," Adam answers.
"You didn’t mention anything about your friends coming," Lana says.
"Why do I need to run everything by you?" Adam asks her with a smug smile, frustrating Lana further.
She just hmphs and turns her head away as Adam drives into the concert venue and tries to find a parking spot.
He finds it hard to find a parking spot; luckily, he is rich. He drives near a staff member and tips him a few hundred dollars, and the staff member happily escorts him into a VIP parking space.
Lana just watches Adam bribe the guy, but doesn’t say anything.
She just wants to get in and meet her friends.
