Regression - Second Chance At Life-Chapter 198: Detective Renee

Chapter 198

Chapter 198: Detective Renee
The cabin belongs to Drake’s uncle. It’s usually used for family getaways.
Little did Drake’s uncle know that his stupid nephew would try to commit a crime in it.
Right now, the cabin is a hotpot of flashing lights from the multiple police cars and ambulance that are at the scene right now.
Lana and her friends are getting medically checked right now for any injuries or trauma they could have suffered,
They all have already given their statement to the police, and everyone did as Adam told them to. They told the truth about how they were kidnapped from the concert venue at gunpoint, thrown into the gang members’ cars, and brought here.
They also informed the police about what the gang members were planning to do to them, which the police believed because the gang members were already under investigation by the police.
Even Crill and Zydan were questioned, and they gave the police their version of the event.
Adam was the last one called to give his statement.
He gives them his version of the story, the police officer who is taking Adam’s feels as if Adam is exaggerating, but when he remembers the brutal state of the gang members where in when he got here, he can’t think of any other reason they would be in such a state.
They were immediately transferred to a hospital the moment the medical team arrived.
After taking Adam’s statement, the officer leaves, but it’s not over. Someone else approaches Adam.
A woman. Short brown hair just reaching her neck, slight tan skin, almost greyish eyes, fit, wearing a leather jacket over a dark t-shirt, and long pants that hugged her legs to perfection.
She is even kind enough to keep her jacket open and show off her cleavage. Though her breasts are not as big as some of the women in Adam’s life, they are nicely shaped and look perky.
The woman is also beautiful, which Adam welcomes. It’s much better to talk to a beautiful woman than some rookie police officer who is still trying to get the hang for his job.
"So, you are the kid responsible for all this?" The lady asks.
"Whoa there, please be clearer with your questions. I only saved my friends from getting rapped and their organs sold off," Adam immediately corrected her.
Hearing his answer, the lady smirked.
"May I know your name?" Adam asks, staring into her eyes. Just from her demeanor and how she is dressed, Adam can tell that she is a detective, with how she is dressed and how she can orders the low-level police officers around here.
"Detective Renee Calder," She says, showing her ID.
"Nice to meet you, Detective. How can I help you?" Adam asks.
"We already have everything we need from you right now, but I do have a question," Renee asks.
"Please, go ahead, I am all ears," Adam says, smiling charmingly.
"Where did you learn to shoot like that?" She asks. She has been wondering about this for a while now. This is not the first time she has seeing Adam.
The day when Adam went to buy his gun, the woman who was practicing to refine her own shooting skills was none other than Renee. She saw Adam in action. How he managed to nail the target each and every time. Even she isn’t that good.
And now, once again, she walks up to a crime scene where some low-level gang members of the gang she has been trying to put in jail have been badly beaten up by a teenager, and he has once again displayed a level of accuracy she has never seen before.
She checked the damaged guns. All of them were hit by a single bullet, leading to catastrophic failure of each of them; one gun even had its barrel blown out from the inside out, meaning Adam managed to shoot right into the barrel.
Just thinking about it seems absurd, but here she is, with proof at hand and standing right before the guy who did it. And the most absurd thing about it all. He is just an eighteen-year-old teenager, and not some old, grizzled war veteran.
"Just talent," Adam says, and he is not lying. What he can do, people can’t replicate, no matter how hard they practice.
Renee chuckles, hearing Adam’s answers. She finds his arrogance amusing.
"Fine, if you don’t want to say anything, then don’t," She says, reaching into her pocket and handing him a card. "Hold on to it. If someone tries to threaten your life or come at you with the intention to hurt, inform me immediately," she says.
Now that Adam is responsible for taking out a few members of a notorious gang, they might try to target Adam. And even though Adam has shown that he can take care of himself, looking at the state he put those gang members in, there is still a limit to what Adam can and can’t do.
Adam takes her card and takes a look. It has her name, title, and two phone numbers. Adam looks back at her, smiles, and puts it in his pocket.
"Anything else, Detective?" He asks.
"Nothing for now, but if need be, we will ask you to visit the station," Renee says.
"I will do everything in my power to help you make sure these men get the punishment they deserve," Adam says, sincerely.
Renee chuckles once again. She believes they have already received perfect judgment through Adam’s hands, but she doesn’t care, even though Adam might have been a little too brutal with them; these men were the lowest of scums.
The amount of crimes they each have on their heads is more than enough to get every one of them multiple life sentences.
Since she is a professional, she can’t say these words out loud, but she thinks some of them deserved what they got and is very thankful for what Adam did to them.
The only one who escaped Adam’s wrath was the leader, but she is going to make sure he gets the chair. Since he is a known criminal with multiple murder, r*pe, and trafficking allegations under his name, she will do her best to dig deep and end his life, through legal means.
"Lana! Adam!" Suddenly, there is another call for him. Adam turns his head and sees Clara rushing towards him.
The moment she is close enough, she embraces him into a concerned hug, before grabbing his face with both her hands to make sure he isn’t injured.
"Are you okay? Are you hurt anywhere?" She asks, looking very concerned while she checks for any possible injuries.
"Clara, I am fine. I think you should go and check on Lana. She’s the victim here," Adam says.
Hearing Lana’s name, Clara immediately leaves Adam’s side and rushes towards her daughter, who has been looking at her. The mother/daughter duo run into each other’s arms, and Lana begins crying, expressing how terrified she was.
"I didn’t know you knew Advocate Dean," Renee says.
"She is a close family friend and my personal lawyer," Adam says as he watches Clara and Lana walk up to him.
"Detective Calder, my client won’t be answering any of your questions from this point onward. If you have something from him, you need to go through me first," Clara says as she immediately gets into her cold professional demeanor.
"Wow~ As cold as ever~ Don’t worry, I am already done here," Renee says, looking at Adam.
"Well, I will take my leave, you guys can go home," Renee says and takes off, leaving Adam, Clara, and Lana alone.
"Thank you so much, Adam. I don’t know what would have happened to my Lana if you weren’t here," Clara says as she embraces Adam once again.
"Clara, I did promise you that I would look after her," Adam says.
Clara pulls away and locks eyes with Adam, who gives her a charming smile. Seeing this, Clara feels her heart skip a beat and her cheeks get a little warm.
"Ahem," she clears her throat and completely pulls away to not make things obvious. She then brings her attention back to Lana.
Now that she knows Lana’s not hurt and all the concern and care is out of the way, it’s time for some scolding.
"And what were you thinking, young lady? Didn’t I tell you to stick close to Adam? What if Adam had completely lost you and didn’t follow you here? Do you even have any idea what could have happened to you and your friends?" Clara scolds while Lana keeps her head down.
"Clara, it’s okay, we can talk about this later," Adam tries to save Lana from Clara’s fury.
"Adam, don’t get involved. This is between me and my daughter!" Clara says and goes back to scolding Lana again.
"Clara!" Adam calls her name. This time with a much more authoritative tone. Clara stops and looks at Adam and meets his serious gaze. She feels like she is getting scolded. She wants to say something, but can’t find the words.
"Fine!" She says and looks back at Lana. "Don’t think this is over, Lana. We will continue this conversation tomorrow," Clara says.
Lana doesn’t say anything. Just stands there silently with her head down.
Adam looks at her and feels some pity. He only stepped in to stop Clara because Lana just went through a traumatic experience, and this is not the time and place for Clara to mother Lana.
Clara might be an intelligent, career woman, but when it comes to relationships and how to navigate them, she isn’t very good at it.
"Let’s head back home. It’s getting very late," Adam suggests.
"Fine, let’s go," Clara agrees, as this forest gives her the creeps.
"Can I drive back with Adam?" Lana asks meekly. Even Adam is surprised by her request.
Clara, too, is surprised, but she doesn’t deny her; instead, she looks at Adam.
"It’s fine, she can come with me," Adam agrees.
Before leaving, he bids farewell to both Crill and Zydan, who had helped him.
"No worries, man, you are our friend. This is what is expected of us," Crill says, patting Adam’s shoulder.
Zydan just nods his head.
"Thanks, guys," Adam says and leaves with Clara and Lana.
