Regression - Second Chance At Life-Chapter 235: Transfer Complete

Chapter 235

Chapter 235: Transfer Complete
Adam has no idea that the little stunt he pulled back at Candice’s house on Priscilla would help him get back to Priscilla much easier than he expected.
What he expected was a fight between Candice and Priscilla about him, which would have led to some form of confrontation between him and Priscilla in the near future.
Adam would have never expected that Candice’s dad would get involved in the matter and would actually help out Adam by inviting Adam into the house.
Of course, Adam doesn’t have any clue about any of this that’s going to take place in Candice’s house tonight, but when he does get informed about it, he will be sure to smile from ear to ear.

On his way back home, Adam gets a message on his phone, which he can see on his car’s dashboard.
It’s from Clara.
Seeing that it’s Clara, Adam slows down his car and parks somewhere to see why she reached out.
Ever since they hooked up, he hasn’t heard a word from Clara, and he doesn’t know what to expect from her.
Even though they talked about their situation and their future relationship at the moment, Adam still has no idea if Clara is having second thoughts about what they did since they haven’t talked yet.
But Adam isn’t worried; he got to her once. He will get to her again.
With that in mind, he puts Clara’s office location in his GPS and drives there.
Forty-five minutes later, Adam arrives before the building, about five stories tall, and on top of it, written in bold words. DEAN. That’s Clara’s surname.
’I knew she had left BigLaw to ’go out on her own.’ I didn’t know ’on her own’ meant having an entire firm under her own name.’ Adam thinks, surprised by what he sees before him.
He walks up to the front door, which automatically slides open to welcome him in.
The moment he steps in, he is greeted by a smocked glass wall that stretches the entire length of the corridor, etched with in single golden bold word DEAN.
No "& Associates." No "LLP." Just one word, floating in the glass like a verdict.
Adam couldn’t help but whistle. It really adds to the legendary reputation that Clara has in her field. Just like her, her firm is also unapologetically bold.
The lobby beyond it was the size of a small ballroom, but it felt like a cathedral built for war. Black marble floor, no one had ever scuffed. A single slab of back-lit onyx for a reception desk.
Adam walks up to the reception, which is currently manned by a young, good-looking guy in a professional-looking attire. He greets Adam with a smile and a small bow. "How can I help you?" He asks.
"I am here to meet Clara Dean. My name’s Adam Grant," Adam says.
"Please wait a second," The receptionist rings up Clara’s personal secretary to check if Adam has an appointment or not.
"Mr Grant, please wait here. Someone will be here to receive you in a moment," The receptionist says.
Adam smiles and steps away.
A minute later, Adam sees a young, beautiful woman approaching him.
She looks to be in her early twenties. Red hair, amber eyes, slim but curvy figure. She is wearing a white shirt and a pencil skirt that goes down all the way to her knees, but it doesn’t take away from her sexiness as she has slender, long legs.
"Mr. Grant?" She asks as she looks at Adam with curious eyes.
"Yes, that’s me," Adam says with a smile
She seems a little taken aback by how good-looking Adam is, but quickly collects herself for being the professional that she is.
"Please follow me. Miss Dean is waiting for you," She says and guides Adam into an elevator.
As the elevator starts going up, the girl can’t help but take a few glances at Adam, wondering who he is and what his relationship with Clara because not anyone can just walk in and ask to meet her.
She is, after all, one of the most sought-after lawyers in this city, not to mention this country; billion-dollar companies want her to fight their cases.
So what makes this young man so special that Clara is willing to give him the time of her very busy schedule?
Every time the girl turns her head to look at him, Adam smiles at her, making the girl blush and look away.
The elevator stops, and the door slides open to reveal a large floor filled with people wearing suits and ties, working in their cubicles, and there are private offices dedicated to a few partners of the firm.
Adam follows the girl out of the elevator as she continues to guide him.
They passed a conference room with its blinds half-drawn. Inside, eight lawyers in shirtsleeves stood around a table buried under document boxes and six glowing monitors. One of them was drawing a red X through an entire page of a deposition transcript while the others watched like surgeons. No one looked up.
Another door stood open to what looked like a private gym (mirrored wall, heavy bag, a single pair of boxing gloves hanging from a hook). Next to it, a small plaque: WAR ROOM C.
They finally arrived at the largest office in the firm. Outside the office, a table that should belong to the woman who guided Adam here, Clara’s receptionist.
Adam looks at the name slab on her table. Morven Campbell. ’So that’s her name,’ Adam thinks as Morven stands before the door and knocks on it three times before pushing it open.
"Miss Dean, Mr. Grant is here," She says, looking into the office.
"Send him in," Adam hears Clara’s voice coming from inside.
"Mr. Grant, please," Morven says, stepping aside for Adam to enter.
"Thank you, Morven," Adam thanks her with a charming smile, making the girl blush and nod as he enters Clara’s office.
Morven closes the glass door behind her and leaves as Adam stands there watching Clara.
Clara, too, has her gaze locked with Adam as she slowly gets up from her chair and approaches Adam.
Adam watches this beautiful bombshell as a woman approaches him with a smile, as his mind wonders what she will do next.
Once she is close enough, she puts her hands on Adam’s chest and leans upward to kiss him.
Adam smiles and leans in to meet her kiss. Their lips lock and their tongues twirl as they lose themselves to the moment for a few minutes.
Adam wraps his hand tightly around Clara, pulling her in closer before his hands start exploring her body.
Only when Clara feels breathless does she pull away from the kiss and gaze into Adam’s eyes with love and lust.
"I missed that~" she says.
"Are you sure, because I didn’t hear a word from you after that night," Adam says.
"You know how busy I am and how distracting my work is. I got completely lost in it," Clara says, sounding apologetic.
"I guessed such. You should pull back, maybe hire a few more lawyers to spread out your work," Adam says.
"I can’t, not now. Maybe when I am done dealing with some important cases," Clara says.
"So, why did you call me? Because I am sure your workaholic mind wouldn’t have called me here if not for work-related stuff," Adam says, smiling cheekily.
Clara scrunches her brows and pouts a little, but she can’t deny Adam’s words either. She did call him here because of work.
She steps away from his embrace and walks back to her desk.
"Something came to my office this morning," She says and puts a file forward.
"And what’s this?" Adam asks as he picks up the file.
"Documents and legal papers involving the transfer of properties and assets worth over two hundred and seventy-five million dollars," Clara says
"*Phew* That’s a lot of money," Adam says with a big grin on his face, as he knows what this is.
"And it’s all yours," Clara says.
Adam nods his head. "I didn’t know my old man had assets and properties worth so much," Adam says. He really didn’t have any idea, as his father was a very private man.
As he looks at the papers, Adam is reminded that he was stripped of all this wealth by Julia before his regression, but if he had access to all this money, he wondered how his life would have been.
But as he thinks about it, he doesn’t think it would have been any better. Sure, he would have been rich, but he would have still been a rich loser with no confidence. He might have had women around him, but he is sure he would have been exploited by them for his riches.
Adam is who he is today because of his harsh life experience. He couldn’t imagine being anyone else right now. Harsh times made him a man with thick skin and gave him a fuck the world attitude, and now, because of his regression, he retains his confidence and attitude but also gets the chance to claim his wealth.
"How is it? Are there any loopholes that Jack or anyone else can exploit?" Adam asks, looking at Clara.
"None, it’s your basic transfer of wealth. There are no backdoors or hidden exploits. It’s now all yours," Clara says, sounding surprised.
Adam smiles. With this, he has finally cut off Julia from all the wealth she wanted to take for herself by marrying Jack. Now that all this belongs to him, she has no claim over them.
He can’t wait to see the look on Julia’s face when she finally figures out that all the effort has completely gone to waste.
