Chapter 459: The Dark Eruption (1)
Third Person’s POV
His jealousy and resentment were soothed by the sight of Ethan being pushed to the brink while battered and bleeding as blackened wounds spread across his body.
Seeing the crisis Ethan was in, Virelle and Velcy frantically searched the sky and the surroundings as they desperately tried to locate the hidden attacker.
It was then that a calm, seductive yet serious voice cut through their panic.
"The one attacking Young Lord Eryndor is most likely that senior gray-eyed deacon, Miss Virelle."
Hearing the sudden voice, they all turned sharply toward the speaker and found that it was none other than Fiona Vael, Lucien’s elder sister.
A faint, composed smile rested on her lips as she subtly gestured with her beautiful eyes toward the spot where the thin gray-haired deacon had been standing moments earlier.
When Virelle and the others followed her gaze, their hearts sank as they found that the space was empty, and even the third deacon had fled at some moment.
Recognizing the attacker solved one of their problems, but Virelle still gritted her teeth as the weight of reality pressed down on her.
She was not delusional enough to believe that they were strong enough to stop him, as they could not even locate where he was hiding, so how were they supposed to interfere?
At the same time, watching Ethan struggle so desperately as he barely dodged the invisible yet fatal onslaught made her chest tighten painfully, and almost drove her to panic as she realized that this time, Ethan was not strong enough to resist such a strong enemy.
Just then, Velcy suddenly grabbed her hand and leaned close as she urgently whispered into her ear.
"You should inform the Lady Duchess, Elder Sister Virelle... She will surely come to help Big Brother Ethan and punish that wretched man..."
Virelle looked into Velcy’s cold gray eyes and, seeing the certainty burning there, she nodded frantically as she scolded herself about how she could forget such an important thing.
Without hesitation, she pulled out an octagonal crimson crystal and, slicing her finger, she let drops of her blood fall onto its smooth surface.
Lucy remained silent, though her face was pale and filled with quiet panic, but she watched closely as Virelle began contacting the duchess.
Suddenly, Lucy’s gaze shifted to the side, and she saw the man named Lucien glaring fiercely at the beautiful dark-haired noblewoman who had just revealed the attacker’s identity.
Fiona seemed to sense his stare as she turned to him slowly in the next moment and offered a smile that was not truly a smile at all.
Lucien’s pupils shrank as if struck by something invisible, and he hurriedly looked away.
Just as the blood crystal in Virelle’s hand began to glow faintly, her face lit up with excitement, but before she could say anything, a strange chill swept through the air.
And she was not alone, as they all felt it.
In the next second, the sky above the square darkened unnaturally.
In shock, everyone looked upward and saw a vast black cloud spreading across the heavens, swallowing the light.
But to their astonishment and horror, it didn’t stay in the sky, and within a few moments, an eerie darkness descended onto the square.
It was so thick that even nearby figures began to blur and fade.
Inside the dark dome, all sound seemed to change.
Soon, people started to cry out as their vision failed them, their footsteps became muffled, and everyone’s breathing felt louder.
The cacophony of chatter was silenced, and even their heartbeats sounded like distant drums echoing through a hollow void.
Many people tried to speak, but their voices came out weak and distorted, as if the darkness itself was swallowing their words.
"W-What is this...?"
"I can’t see anything...!"
"Where did the light go?!"
Soon, panic spread quickly as a feeling of helplessness that these sheltered noble children hadn’t felt in their whole lives started to fill their minds.
Some students stumbled into one another, and others instinctively backed away from any movement they sensed, as they were afraid something would attack them out of nowhere.
Even the vampires, who prided themselves on their perfect night vision, were nearly blind here.
The darkness was simply not natural; it was heavy, thick, and suffocating, as if something alive was wrapping around their eyes.
Yet now even those with the most power and talent among them, including Fiona, Lucien, Virelle, and their companions, found themselves struggling to see anything at all.
As the all-encompassing darkness seeped into the area and wrapped around everything like a suffocating veil.
Seeing such a spell with such a terrying might, even the casual and relaxed air that one of the three powerful and talented geniuses of the vampires, Fiona, carried vanished as her expression turned solemn.
Her eyes started to glow with an eerie red light as she tried to look for the source of the darkness, but to her horror, she couldn’t even see beyond five feet in the omnipresent darkness around her.
If someone had been watching from afar, they would have been stunned to see that the entire square, which was nearly a hundred meters wide, had been swallowed by a vast, ominous dome of shadow, blocking all light and sounds.
The dome was colossal, and it did not merely cover the square; it seemed to devour it.
Rising like an inverted abyss, it stretched upward until it nearly reached half the height of the nearby black tower, swallowing the sky and severing the world beneath it from everything beyond.
Light did not fade naturally inside the dome as it was consumed and erased as though it had never existed in the first place.
Sounds dulled, the air thickened, and even the concept of real and unreal seemed to blur.
Unknown to everyone trapped within that suffocating darkness, Ethan hovered far above them.
He was suspended near the apex of the dome, his dark wings beating slowly and unevenly as he struggled to maintain control over his battered body.
