Chapter 461: A Vicious Fight and Interference (1)
Third Person’s POV
They consisted of twisted shadows, screaming mouths, grotesque and dark reflections of fear and desire hovering above their heads while his own towering and composed triple-horned dark astral form loomed over them.
It was silent and watchful, but to his shock, he couldn’t find Ethan’s astral shadow, and not even a single ripple of his astral shadow’s reflection could be seen in the swirling purple depths of his eyes.
It was as if he didn’t exist or had stepped outside of the world order itself, and that realization made the dark prince’s blood run cold.
But then, slowly, a sense of greed took its place.
The greed turned into a desperate hunger that ran far deeper than mere ambition.
To him, Ethan was no longer a young prodigy he could ignore or see as a toy he could play with and douse his boredom.
His monstrous talent and his terrifying secret, which was the only explanation behind how he could unleash such an attack and create such a phenomenon that even his Nightmare Dark Eye couldn’t pierce through, filled him with greed and desire to uncover that secret and make it his.
Countless calculations raced through his mind as he started to weave schemes upon schemes.
Yet even as his desire surged, the fact that there existed forbidden existences within this Sanctum, and mysterious beings far older and deadlier than his current self, forced him to suppress the urge to act for now.
But the decision had already been made, as Ethan had become a resource too valuable to be destroyed in his eyes.
Meanwhile, Ethan did not even notice that the dark-haired prince of the Abyssal Dominion’s royal clan entourage was attempting to trace his presence or probe into his secrets, because he could not spare even a fragment of his attention from the invisible and overwhelmingly dangerous enemy he was facing.
He knew that this was, without a doubt, the most powerful and lethal opponent he had encountered in his entire life so far, but there was one silver lining at this moment.
And it was that the invisible enemy was no longer invisible.
Through the strange perception granted by his erupting dark power, Ethan finally detected him standing calmly on the windowsill of one of the rooms in the nearby black tower, his figure half-merged with the surrounding gloom.
When Ethan recognized the ambush attacker to be this thin, sickly looking gray haired deacon, a flicker of surprise crossed his mind, though it was not born out of true shock.
From the very first moment he had seen that man, Ethan had felt something deeply unsettling about him, as if an unseen pressure lurked beneath his frail appearance.
And now, that vague sense of danger had been confirmed as he discovered that this guy was terrifyingly strong and gave him a strong feeling of life-threatening danger.
According to what Ethan knew, the
Sky Realm
was divided into three minor realms, which were mainly the
Realm of Blue Heaven
, the
Realm of World Opening
, and the final and terrifying stage known as the
Realm of Life Origin.
And reaching that final minor realm was the minimum requirement for anyone who wished to step into the hallowed realm of
Heaven Connection
and become a true forbidden existence.
Even without exact confirmation, Ethan could guess that the gray-haired deacon stood at the higher tiers of the Sky Realm, most likely at the Realm of World Opening.
But what he could not understand was the motive behind this sudden, lethal ambush. Why would someone of that level personally try to kill him, a small-time young man?
When their gazes locked, Ethan was startled to find that the deacon could still see him clearly, and the man did not appear confused or blinded by the darkness that had blinded everyone at all.
This did not truly surprise Ethan, because even though his dark magic was godly in origin and unimaginably mysterious, it was still fueled by the mana of a rank-two being, and expecting its concealment to be absolute in front of a seasoned rank-four powerhouse was a delusional dream.
But what unsettled Ethan far more was the look in the deacon’s eyes as, instead of fear, caution, or anger at him being discovered, there was delight.
A quiet, chilling delight gleamed in those deathly gray eyes, and a thin, manic smile crept across the deacon’s pale face as though everything was unfolding exactly as he had hoped.
Instantly, Ethan’s instincts screamed, and he felt that something was terribly wrong with everything that had been happening for a little while.
A creeping realization formed inside his mind that he had been dragged into a carefully prepared scheme, and that his opponent was not merely attacking him in anger but was hunting him for a deeper, far more sinister purpose.
Seeing that grotesque smile only fueled Ethan’s irritation and unease.
Without hesitation, he followed the strange pull of the dark currents surrounding him.
In the next instant, his body vanished, and riding the invisible dark waves that flowed between the shadow realm and the material world, Ethan appeared directly in front of the thin deacon as though he had teleported across space itself.
Even a part of his own mind was momentarily stunned by this ability, as this was the first time he had gotten the opportunity to use it.
He didn’t know the name of this nameless movement technique that bordered on teleportation, but he instinctively knew that this movement technique could only be activated while those realm-traveling dark waves existed around him, and once the darkness faded, so would this world-defying spell.
But he had no time to marvel as he struck at his opponent.
With a precise, vicious motion, he thrust his saber straight toward the center of the deacon’s forehead, aiming directly between his eyebrows.
Ethan was counting on the element of surprise, and the attack was so sudden and fast that the delighted expression on the deacon’s face froze for a fraction of a second when he felt the killing cold of the blade rushing toward his skull.
