Rise of the Lustful Evil Monarch (Re)-Chapter 463: A Vicious Fight and Interference (3)
Chapter 463: A Vicious Fight and Interference (3)
Third Person’s POV
Those projectiles were not only physically durable, but they also carried a terrifying, deathly aura that sought to wither and erode everything it touched.
"This saber will not be the only thing that withers and turns to dust, young friend."
A dry, hoarse cackle echoed nearby, making Ethan’s blood freeze for a split second.
Startled, he launched himself laterally with a powerful flap of his dark wings and turned sharply, prepared for another ambush, only to realize that the deathly demon had been just standing about a distance of a few feet away from him and had not attacked him at all.
Instead, the thin, gray-haired old demon merely stood there and stared at him with a mocking and almost amused expression, as though he were watching a trapped animal panic.
Ethan’s gaze darkened with cold anger and humiliation as he realized the truth that this old demon was deliberately toying with him.
He had intentionally not attacked him and let him flee, just to savor his fear and make a mockery of his instincts.
Looking at those sharp black teeth and those glowing, death-tinted yellow eyes, Ethan suddenly felt a spark of clarity, and a crooked grin tugged at his lips.
"Laugh as much as you want, old dog," he said coldly.
"In spite of being so strong, in the end, you are nothing more than a pawn for whatever master you serve.
Your chances of ever reaching the Heaven Connection Realm are already zero."
"I can tell you are actually jealous of my talent, my youth, and even my appearance, as yours has already been destroyed due to practising such a foul and wicked divine art.
And you are just hiding that bitterness behind these cheap little games."
"But remember this," Ethan continued, his eyes burning with arrogant certainty.
"You will always be someone else’s hound, while I will one day become a sovereign who stands above all."
His words dripped with deliberate provocation, and each sentence was aimed straight at the helplessness and frustration that must have festered within the old demon for countless years.
From the moment Ethan had sensed that he was being dragged into some deeper, more sinister scheme, he had already guessed that this creature was merely a tool in someone else’s plan.
And now, seeing how the old demon was playing with him instead of killing him outright, Ethan was certain of one thing that this man did not want him dead, at least not yet.
So he struck at the only weakness he believed the old demon truly had as he hurled out venomous words to provoke a reaction and expose his hand.
But he didn’t know that the situation of the old demon was even worse than what he said, and he had intentionally but also unintentionally struck the sorest spot he could have done so.
To Ethan’s inward satisfaction, the mocking grin on the demon’s face vanished and was replaced by a stiff, stone-like expression.
In a low, rasping voice, the deathly demon finally spoke again.
"Do not worry, young friend. Before you fulfill the purpose you were made for, I will personally teach you the price of your insolence, and after you fulfill the purpose you were meant for, your laughable dream of becoming a sovereign standing above all will fade into nothing."
Ethan did not understand the meaning behind the first sentence, nor the so-called purpose the old demon had spoken of, but he knew one thing with certainty that his intention to provoke and anger him had succeeded.
At the same time, he also realized that he had failed to extract any real information about the shadowy master behind this monster, the one who had most likely ordered this ambush in the first place.
Before he could think any further about it, the situation changed violently, and the old demon’s body began to shift.
Sharp, curved, barbed, and twisted bony spikes erupted from his fingers like before.
But this time they also emerged from elbows, shoulders, and even from the skin of his face.
His toes split apart and lengthened into grotesque talons that scraped against the stone with a shrill, grating sound.
Wisps of grey, deathly energy clung to those spikes, and as they came out, his flesh rapidly withered at the same time, and his already bony figure became even more bony.
At the end, he looked like a strange, skeletal creature with just a bag of wrinkled skin covering his skeletal figure.
For a brief moment, the old demon cum, the skeletal creature no longer looked like a living being at all, but more like something pulled straight from a nightmare or a grotesque horror scene from Ethan’s past life.
A chill ran down Ethan’s spine, and he knew he had struck exactly where it hurt, and as a result, he had awakened the monster.
In the next instant, the old demon vanished from his position in a blur of distorted air, but Ethan was already moving this time, and he was no longer passive.
He had anticipated this madness and had already calculated his next move the moment he provoked him.
Riding the shadow-waves that flowed between the material and shadow realms, Ethan reappeared in a new location.
It was right in the middle of the terrified underlings who were desperately trying to carry away the unconscious body of young lord Jack Wilds.
Just as Ethan had predicted, they could not see him, but they could feel that someone had arrived amongst them.
A sudden cold wind swept through their bodies and brushed their skin like invisible fingers.
Someone finally whispered in panic,
"Who... who’s there?"
Another voice, trembling with desperate hope, followed,
"Did you come to save us?"
Their fear twisted into fragile excitement as they spoke again,
"Please, help us! Our young master will reward you generously for thi—"
Their words were abruptly cut off as a wet slicing sound filled the air, followed by the dull, sickening thuds of bodies falling.
