Seventies Sweetheart: From Breakup to Billionaire-Chapter 115: Town First Middle School

Chapter 115

Chapter 115: Chapter 115: Town First Middle School
Last time, when Yang Lihua brought some potatoes, Lin Xiang tried to make potato starch but failed because she didn’t control the quantity properly.
Just now Fifth Uncle sent over some more potatoes. She plans to peel only a small portion first, so if she fails again, it won’t hurt too much.
Since returning home, Lin Xiang hasn’t stopped and has been making starch the entire time.
Mrs. Lin also came to help, but Lin Xiang found her too slow.
"Mom, can you heat some water for me? I want to take a bath later."
"Alright. I’ll heat the water in the back pot while cooking, so you can bathe after dinner."
By the time Lin Xiang finished her bath and lay down on the bed, it was already late at night.
She fell asleep as soon as her head hit the pillow.
As a result, Lin Xiang didn’t notice Mrs. Lin sitting at the bedside, watching her for a long time with a mix of emotions in her eyes.
The next morning, Lin Xiang stretched lazily after a good sleep, "Mom, I need to go to Town First Middle School today. When I come back, I’ll get you some meat buns from the state-run hotel. Anything else you’d like?"
Mrs. Lin, lying in bed with her eyes closed, said, "Last time I ate at the state-run hotel, I heard the chef’s fish is delicious, but you have to book it in advance. Since you know the chef well, see if you can get a fish?"
Li Hua Team has a river with plenty of fish, but unless there’s a real shortage of food, villagers hardly think of catching them.
The fish are bony and have a muddy taste, and to make them tasty requires a lot of oil and salt. But the oil usage in the village is fixed monthly, and if more is used for one meal, it won’t be enough for the rest of the month. Who would waste their oil on fish?
Mrs. Lin wants to taste how good the fish at the state-run restaurant is.
"Alright, I’ll go ask Chef Shen if he can slot in a fish for you. I should head out now; remember to have breakfast yourself later."
Lin Xiang first went to the team department to rent a bicycle and then rode it to Town First Middle School.
When Lin Xiang arrived, it was already eight forty in the morning, and the students had started their morning reading. The playground was almost empty.
Lin Xiang knocked on the door of the duty room, and soon the window opened a crack, "Who are you looking for?"
"Sir, I’ve arranged to meet Teacher Yu from the twelfth grade today, could you please inform her?"
Lin Xiang slipped a few White Rabbit Creamy Candies through the window crack.
Generosity is never blamed.
Sure enough, upon seeing the candies, the duty officer’s tone softened, "You’re talking about Yu Xiumei, who teaches twelfth-grade math, right? Wait a moment, I’ll ask."
It wasn’t long before Yu Xiumei rushed over.
"Lin Xiang, I thought you’d be here at noon."
Lin Xiang laughed, "Of course I’ll come early since it’s arranged. Teacher Yu, may I come in now? If it’s inconvenient, I can wait outside."
Since she was at school, Lin Xiang now referred to Yu Xiumei as Teacher Yu instead of Aunt Yu.
Yu Xiumei glanced at her reproachfully, "You’ll be a student here next spring, so why wouldn’t it be convenient to come in? Besides, today we specifically invited you to Town First Middle School; there’s no reason to keep you waiting outside. Come in first."
Yu Xiumei took Lin Xiang to her office.
"Lin Xiang, I have a math class this morning. You can wait in my office for a while, and I’ll come to find you after the class."
"Between two classes there will be a break, about fifteen minutes long. I’ve talked with the principal, and the second class will finish five minutes early, so I’ll have twenty minutes to teach the life-saving method to everyone, how does that sound?"
Lin Xiang naturally had no issues with the school’s arrangement.
"Teacher Yu, please go ahead with your work, I’ll wait for you here."
Yu Xiumei took out some snacks from her drawer, "I have books here, if you get bored you can read them. I’m giving you these snacks, don’t be polite, just eat them if you want to."
After instructing Lin Xiang, Yu Xiumei hurriedly left.
There were other teachers in the office, and everyone seemed busy, concentrating on their work, with no small talk with Lin Xiang.
She was happy with the solitude, returned the snacks back to the drawer, and, noticing a printed exam paper on the desk, curiously looked over it.
Lin Xiang recalled seeing a high school math workbook in the dorm at the cotton spinning factory, and couldn’t resist writing the steps and thoughts of solving a few difficult problems with a pencil.
At that time, she realized that the 1977 math textbook was simpler than she thought.
Although she wasn’t a graduate of Tsinghua or Peking University, she had gotten into a 985 university, and the 1977 math problems were at the middle school level for her.
The twelfth-grade math was only slightly harder than the eleventh-grade, but it happened to be Lin Xiang’s strength: spatial geometry.
Using scrap paper, she copied the diagrams, added a few extra lines, and her solution approach immediately became clear.
It took her less than twenty minutes to solve all six geometry problems.
But the textbook didn’t have standard answers, so Lin Xiang wasn’t sure if her solutions were correct.
She put down her pen, stretched, and accidentally bumped into something soft.
Lin Xiang was startled and looked closely, finding that the male teacher sitting opposite Yu Xiumei had somehow ended up behind her, staring intently at the scrap paper where she had worked out the solutions.
"I didn’t know this problem could be solved this way; why didn’t I think of that?"
"That auxiliary line is just genius, adding one line saves nearly ten steps. Can other geometric diagrams be solved in a similar way?"
Lin Xiang listened to the female teacher’s self-talk and quietly moved over.
The male teacher noticed Lin Xiang’s movement and realized his lack of manners.
He pushed up his glasses, looking eagerly at Lin Xiang, "Student, what is your relationship with Teacher Yu Xiumei?"
"She’s an elder to me without blood relations."
"Where are you currently studying?"
"I had to drop out due to unforeseen family circumstances. I plan to retake the eleventh grade at Town First Middle School next semester."
"Great, really great!" The male teacher seemed quite excited.
Lin Xiang didn’t understand why he was excited or what was great.
Coincidentally, Yu Xiumei returned from class and saw her colleague’s excitement, mistakenly thinking he had a dispute with Lin Xiang, so she walked quickly over, "Yu, what are you discussing?"
"Yu, you’re back just in time; take a look at this!"
Without considering Lin Xiang, Teacher Zhang took the scrap paper with her solutions and handed it to Yu Xiumei.
