Chapter 397: Sped Up Plans
Jace walked up to the door following the sergeant from the logistics division. He saluted at the guard standing at the door. "Sergeant Lucy Nezzain, I was assigned with the task of bringing Major Jace."
The guard, a mar’talic, growled. "Why is he not in uniform?"
Sergeant Nezzain shuffled nervously and glanced at Jace. Jace just shrugged, "don’t feel like it. I am on vacation." Jace answered the mar’talic growled again. "Are you going to open the door? Or did I just waste a trip because you are being an over protective dickhead?"
Jace could hear the Sergeant suck in air. He only went with him because he thought someone was going to try to kill him. But if no one was going to attempt to take his life he had better things to do.
"No. But you do need to disarm Major Jace." The guard insisted doing the equivalent of what Jace suspected was gritting his teeth in anger.
Jace thought about it for a moment and then pulled out his gun and handed it over to the guard. "Makes sense. I plan to get that back when I leave. Now tell the woman that I am here." Jace handed over the gun and then shoved his hands in his jean pockets as he waited.
"High Priestess, there is a Sergeant Nezzain and a Major Jace out here." The guard spoke into a communication device. He disabled Jace’s gun and then put it away.
There was an almost inaudible crackle. Then Jace could hear the message that the High Priestess sent back. He could hear it because of his new abilities. This was actually the first time he used it, aside from knowing when he was sent a message.
"Good. Send Major Jace in. Tell the sergeant to get back to his day-to-day activities." The High Priestess ordered.
Jace smirked and the guard growled again. He was clearly feeling annoyed for some reason. But Jace for whatever reason felt like being even more annoying. In fact he really wanted to be as annoying as possible.
"Go on in, Major Jace. Sergeant Nezzain, you can go back to whatever other task you have." The guard informed them as the door to the office opened up.
Jace walked in and saw the High Priestess sitting at her desk swiping through a large amount of holographic data. "Hello High Priestess. What changed that you called me back so soon? I thought I had another month off before I would return."
She looked over at him for a moment before looking back at the data she was sifting through. "I apologize. But things are changing quickly. Originally I planned to start this in a month like you said when the rest of your squad returned. But because of various issues, we can no longer hold you in reserve as long." The High Priestess explained. "But technically you will only be working half the time for the remaining month."
Jace frowned, "what exactly will I be doing? I saw in the letter that I would be in charge of a new unit. What is going to happen to Cerberus Squad?"
"Cerberus Squad, is being turned into the Cerberus Special Response Unit. It will not just compose of a single ten man squad. Instead it will have you, a Major, and your assistant who must have the rank of Captain. Then under you will be anywhere from five to ten Captains, each commanding a wing of the unit. Each of those Captains will have twenty soldiers under them. With four squads, they would be commanding one squad while three other squad leaders would be operating under them. Each of those squads will consist of five soldiers." The High Priestess explained quickly.
Jace blinked as he had not even sat down yet. Then he frowned and walked to the seat opposite her and tossed himself down and then brought up his boots to the edge of the top of her desk and rested them on there. Essentially what she just told him is that he and assistant will be in charge of somewhere between one hundred and two hundred soldiers.
This was a big change. It was not something someone would just decide to do either. She said this was always the plan but she had to speed it up. So this was not just her plan or her idea. Director Fenrir would also have authority to command him. This seemed more like something she would push him into forcefully.
"So I will be operating as both MILD and the High Priestess’ problem solving unit. Essentially, we will be the ones you call when everything has already gone to shit." Jace observed as he sighed.
The High Priestess flinched at his crass explanation but after a moment she nodded her head in agreement. "That is... correct. You are our ’break glass in case of emergency’ button. Just to use a human reference." It seemed the High Priestess was at the very least getting caught up in the ever expanding human culture.
Jace nodded his head as he became lost in thought. "I assume you and Director Fenrir have some recommendations and constrictions?" Jace asked as he was already building up a few ideas and thoughts in his head.
"Yes, you are not allowed to have any of the other Spectres from your class in your unit. As it stands they are the bulk of the force that is allowing us to invade the Crystoph Federation." The High Priestess explained. "In addition your ship and ship captain have already been decided on. While your unit is classified at this level..." She moved back in her seat and seemed to open a drawer before pulling out a data pad and tossing it through the hologram of information that was hanging over her desk.
Jace frowned as he saw the classification of the file. He then opened it up and burst into laughter. "Hahahaha! That is absolutely hilarious! Okay, I will play." Jace grinned as he quickly began looking through the outline of the unit and then frowned. "About this unit... are you sure? I do not know anyone capable of-"
The small light blue orb got brighter for a moment before the guard’s voice came through. "I have Captain Tyler, Gorund Velwrench, Lieutenant Vaz, and Lieutenant Salunise out here."
