Chapter 437: Mechs
Sergeant K watched as the emergency medical transport flew up into the air before she turned around and picked up her weapon and marched back to the battle lines. She looked around with a scowl hidden behind her helmet’s visor. She stopped when she spotted the blue mask with the gold mask standing at the far back of the enemy lines. They were on the other side of the battlefield from her.
"Weren’t you told to get back to Wolfsbane?" A voice asked and she looked over to see the dwarf, Specialist Velwrench if she recalls.
"That blue masked demon tried to kill one of my comrades. I plan to put him in the ground. Do you have a problem with that?" Sergeant K asked with a sneer.
"No," Gorund shook his head and then nodded at a tank. "But we can’t get through that battlefield easily. Not to mention we are going to need other suicidal people. Come on, I made some fun and suicidal friends who can help."
—-------------------
Captain Tyler fired several times while using the unfamiliar controls of the Knight-class mech that was dropped for him. There were a few larger demons but nothing the size of his mech. But as he blew the head off another large naked demon his sensors began going off.
"Captain Solisa, some of my sensors are indicating several reactors under the ground- never mind I see what is causing it." Tyler stopped himself as he watched several piles of sand rise up and turn into mechs. Ten of them were the size of his Knight-class mech. But there was one mech that was red and larger but not as big as crusader-class mech.
"Captain Tyler, keep those mechs away from the central battlefield. We have verified that under the area is a giant cavern where a number of captured people are located. If those mechs detonate it could cause a collapse that will kill all the occupants." Captain Solisa ordered quickly over the command channel.
Captain Tyler manipulated the controls of his mech. It began running forward on top of the canyon walls. The ground probably shook as he moved and fired. Finishing off the last of the large demons. "All knight-class mechs move forward to engage the demon mechs. I will handle the red one. All Walker-class and Trojan-class stay behind and handle the last of the large demons. Work in teams to take the enemies out." Tyler ordered as his mech jumped a gap while switching targets to the red enemy mech.
The first few shells slammed against the mech and a soft blue covered the enemy mech as they fell off the mech’s shields. But then the red mech put forward a physical shield and the bullets began bouncing off while some became embedded in the shield. Then Tyler had to raise his own shield as a cannon on the enemy mech’s shoulder heated up. It slammed into his shield and Tyler’s sensors went wild.
Tyler changed targets and fired at the shoulder cannon as it heated up again. While he tossed the shield forward. The enemy shoulder cannon exploded and covered the enemy mech’s shoulder and neck in red plasma energy that slowly began eating away at it.
His mech moved around the larger red mech and ducked lower as the larger mech swung their shield around. Probably looking around for his mech because of the damage he just caused to the enemy mech’s sensor suite. By Tyler tossing the shield forward he managed to throw the enemy off.
Especially since the rest of the Knight-class mechs were engaging the other mechs. But as Tyler prepared to fire at the red mech he had to suddenly fire his thrusters on one of his arms. Moving him out of the way of a barrage of laser fire that bounced off the red mech’s shielding that came back up.
As his mech slid to a stop he spun back around and fired the last of the rounds that were in his cannon. The first one slammed into the ground in front of the enemy. While the second shot whistled right over their head and flew into the distance and out into the canyons in the distance that were now visible. Then the last few hit the enemy mech.
Now that the canyon was covered in explosions and several larger mechs and vehicles the fog had rolled away. Mostly because of the Wolfsbane that was hovering over their position. Along with heat and explosions that were generated because of the battle that was keeping the fog away.
As the enemy mech went down it fired one last laser bolt that hit Tyler’s mech’s hand held cannon and he saw the cannon start disintegrating almost immediately. He tossed it through the air away from him just as it exploded and turned his attention to the red mech which was already turning in his direction. But the remote weapons throughout its body did not seem to be responding or were deactivated because they were not aiming at him.
He manipulated his mech’s arms and pulled out a metal cylinder from one of his mech’s arms. A four sided spike emerged from the metal cylinder and he stabbed at one of the red mech’s legs. It stabbed right into the knee joints of the mech.
The red mech swung his shield around and swatted Tyler’s mech through the air. Tyler gritted his teeth as he was weightless for a moment before slamming into the back of his seat as his mech landed on its back. He quickly ignored the pain throughout his body and manipulated the movement to pull himself up and dodge to the side as the ground he landed at was covered in the same acidic plasma they were shooting.
The fact that they were melting mechs was dangerous. He would ask the engineers to see about getting them some of those weapons. As he pulled himself up he could hear the reactor humming loudly, showcasing the first signs of the Victorium’s lack in mech development.
He fired foam into the core to cool it down as he sent a signal to the spike. The spike exploded and the red mech quickly slammed his weapon down to balance himself as the leg with the spike had been mostly destroyed and destabilized the red mech’s balance.
While the red mech adjusted its balance, Tyler moved his mech away and pulled out another spike from his other arm while his other arm pulled out a large knife from the back of his mech’s waist. The red mech pulled a staff off their back and out of the sides came energy and formed into a double sided axe.
But before Tyler could move in for the kill he had to start moving. Dodging fire from other enemy mechs as he fired his thrusters escaping to the side. Another portion of his sensors went wild as the splash damage from the attack made contact with some of his thrusters and external armor.
With a quick manipulation of controls he ejected the affected armor panels to prevent the spread of the acid plasma that was trying to melt through his mech. While he also got into position behind a different enemy mech that was facing away from him.
As the others stopped firing he swiped his mech knife through the enemy mech’s neck. The mech’s neck was mostly armored. But the knife still cut through some motors that should stop it from turning.
In terms of importance, the head of a mech was just usually the main sensor suite. But there were additional sensors and a back up sensor suite in other parts of the mech. The mech he slashed at began trying to turn around. Unlike the red mech it did not have additional weapons it could manipulate without its arms.
But Tyler just used the knife to cut out the visible parts in its shoulders. Causing the mech to be even further disabled while he looked toward the two enemy mechs that were moving toward him and were switching to melee weapons since he was using their ally as a shield to prevent their weapon fire.
The red mech was out of melee distance but it was struggling to move as well since Tyler had mauled its legs. For the enemy mechs there were these three knights and the red mech. While he had five knight mechs left on his side not including himself.
Although he was losing them quickly as the red mech swiped through one of his subordinates and cleaved the mech in question in two. Tyler pressed the communication button and broadcast an order. "All knight-class, focus on these last three. I will take care of the enemy red mech." He instructed as he prepared to run toward the red mech.
But his attention was pulled away as a massive red portal appeared between them and the infantry battle that was going on in the canyon. But that was not his focus at the moment. His focus was finishing this fight.
