Novice soldiers of the Demon Lord's Army were gathered in a lecture room at the training center in the Demon City. The second demon orientation course session was about to begin.
The classroom was abuzz with vicious-looking demons and monstrous-looking fiends. The instructor had yet to arrive. An exasperated-looking goblin spoke to a skeleton sitting next to him.
"I guess the Teach hasn't come yet, huh?"
The skeleton gave a serious expression to the foul-mouthed goblin, who was leaning back on his seat.
"You. That kind of attitude will get you killed in no time."
"H-huh? G-Getting killed? WHAT DO YOU MEAN? It's just a training program, right?"
And then, the demon sitting in the back seat muttered in a trembling voice.
"Wrong…! This place is hell……!"
Both the skeleton and the demon in the back seat were obviously different from the other frivolously-acting demons. The goblin suddenly realized something with a jolt and turned to the skeleton once more.
"Perhaps, you guys… are attendees of the first demon orientation course?"
"Yeh. We are survivors of the last one."
"S-Survivors!?"
The goblin shouted in a hysterical voice. The surrounding demons began to gather together, saying, "What!?, What!?"
Among the demons, a lizardman stepped forward with his curiosity picked.
"Tell me about the last time, would you!?"
The instructor still hadn't arrived. Before long, all the fiends in the class had gathered around the skeleton and the demon sitting in the back. In the midst of it all, the skeleton slowly opened his lipless bone mouth.
"The instructor for the previous demon training was Instructor Leos, former commander adjutant of the Beast King's Oni Squad. He is a vicious lion beastman. Last time, the total number of cadets was twenty. By the time rollcall had ended, though, the number had been cut in half."
"Eeehh–!? How did it get cut in half!?"
Someone shouted out. The skeleton said with a somber look on his face, his bones rattling eerily.
"Some were killed just for chattering in class..."
"That's just…!!"
The demons were in despair. The classroom went quiet. The demon in the back seat said in a trembling voice.
"A-An acquaintance of mine was killed just for dropping a pencil on the floor! The guy in the seat behind him did nothing wrong and was killed incidentally as collateral damage!"
"No f-ing WAY!? The guy behind him? Isn't that too pathetic!?"
The goblin shouted. Before long, the demons were listening to the skeleton's narrative as if they were being told a ghost story. Soon, an earnest voice rose from the group.
"Skeleton!! Please TELL ME!! How did you survive this training!!"
"We just got lucky, that's all I can say. However, there are some more or less countermeasures. First, correct your posture. Reply in a loud voice. Never drop a pencil on the floor. And, there is something more important."
"Which is…?"
"I believe that the demon orientation course is a tool to gauge how much murderous intent we have against humans. In other words, focus your answers to the questions that Leos proposes on 'How can we kill humans more brutally?'."
"I-I see!"
At that moment, the sliding door opened with the rattling sound of "garari."
What the nervous-looking demons saw, however, was not a lion beastman. At first glance, it appeared to be a small, frail-looking girl. However, her limbs were ball-jointed.
A golem let out a shrill voice when he saw the puppet doll demon walking with bobbling steps, heading towards his own desk.
"Isn't that Lady Duma from the Immortal Fleet!?"
"Formerly… from the Immortal Fleet, you know. Apparently, she did several... things. Now she has been demoted to a mere foot soldier. And now she has been sent here to the demon training camp to get back on her feet."
Each of the demons looked impressed at Skeleton's words.
"You. Know about everything."
"And he's so calm about it. As you would expect from a survivor from the previous program."
"If we do what the skeleton says, we will survive." ——— just as the demons held onto such faint hope, the demon in the back seat began to rattle and tremble with a "gatagata."
"H-He's coming…! That guy is coming…!"
Accompanied by the sound of footsteps, the sliding door was opened wide. Leos, the beastman with the face of a fierce lion, entered the lecture room, bending over his huge body to pass through the door frame. Surprisingly, he was clutching a chain in his hand and was accompanied by a human mother-daughter pair.
After walking up to the podium, Leos bitterly informed the demons.
"By order from the top brass of the Demon Lord's Army, we must conduct a human anatomy class via dissection today…"
The young girl screamed out "Mama—!" while weeping. The mother, also spilling tears, held her daughter, chained to her, with her shackled, restrained arms. Glancing at the scene, Leos gnashed his teeth with a "girigiri."
"For fucks's sake…! If Suzuki finds out about this kind of thing…! Mumble grumble…"
No demon could hear such a low voice from Leos. The only thing that they could perceive and made them shudder was the fact that Leos was a dangerous lecturer and he seemed to be in a bad mood as well. Leos coughed and then picked up the list of names.
"I'll take attendance."
All the demons responded loudly, just as they had heard from the skeleton. They straightened their backs, corrected their posture, and gripped their pencils so tightly that their hand bled, trying to ensure that they would absolutely never drop them.
The attendance verification ended without anyone dying. The demons looked relieved, but the skeleton's face remained grim.
"The real deal starts here. Everyone, be careful."
The skeleton's whisper made the demons brace themselves. Leos put the list of names on the lectern.
"Let's begin the lesson. However, before that…"
Scratching his cheeks with his fingernails, Leos said in a somewhat awkward manner.
"The structure of the human body can be found in the textbook. I, as your teacher, don't think it's necessary to go through all the trouble of dissection, but what does everyone think?"
The mother and daughter pair looked relieved at Leos' words. However, the skeleton whispered to the demons around him.
"This is a fake out! Without a doubt, they are testing our killing intent!"
"I see, indeed!"
In an attempt to show his motivation, the lizardman raised a high-pitched voice.
"NO!! I want to dissect humaaaanns!!"
In tandem with him, a cyclops also shouted.
"I'll tear them up to pieeeceeeesss!!"
"B-Bastards…!!"
The color of Leos' face changed. The demons saw it as a good sign and began shouting more and more brutal statements.
"Let's make them suffer as much as possible before we kill them!"
"I'll cut off their fingers, one by one!"
The Lizardman said, his long tongue dangling. Leos' anger reached a boiling point when he saw the child starting to cry in fear.
"What the hell are you saying, bastaaards!!"
As he approached the lizardman, Leos slammed a powerful fist into its face. With a muffled thud, the Lizardman's face was shattered.
"H-Hey!! Skeleton!! Lizardman has been killed!!"
"Leos must have meant 'What the hell are those ordinary things you are saying'! It wasn't savage enough! You need to be more aggressive and show more brutality!"
"All right! In that case, I'll show him with actions!"
The demon, whose hands were made of pincers, got up from his seat and rushed toward the podium.
"Ke—– ke–ke–ke! I'll chop the mother's head, in front of the braaat!"
Laughing so hard that his mouth dropped open, the pincer demon tried to pounce on them. However, Leos stood in front of them. And then, with his sharpened lion claws, he sliced off the head of the pincer demon.
"You'll chop her head off!? Don't say such a dreadful statement ever again!! Do you understand!!?"
"I-Instructor…! That guy, he is already dead…!"
The pincer demon, who was spurting blood from the neck like a fountain, had already died.
The demons had no choice but to be silent, due to the fact that there were too many things to comment on. Only the skeleton was muttering in a trembling voice.
"W-What's different from the last time? What in the hell, is the correct answer…?"
Then, the demon behind him burst into thunderous laughter.
"S-Start with the brat! If you kill the brat first, the parent will suffer terribly! That's the correct answer!"
The fiends nodded at the demon's voice. The skeleton added to the demon's opinion.
"Everyone, surround them and attack them as a group! That way, it will be more brutal!"
Several demons leaped out and surrounded the mother and child in the teaching podium. And then…
"""Hi-yah—!!"""
With a somewhat brutal shout, they tried to pounce on the mother and daughter.
Indeed, as they had planned, the brutality was increased by surrounding them with a large group of people. However, with that, Leos' anger was also amplified to the extreme.
"What color is your blood, you bastaaaards!!"
Leos moved with tremendous speed and cut off the heads of the demons that were pouncing on the child from all directions. Every single one of the demons that pounced on them was ripped apart by Leos' sharp claws, spewing purple blood as they drew their last breath.
After killing all of them, Leos regulated his breathing and shouted out loudly.
"What the hell do you mean by 'Hiyah'!! Is that a new trend!!?"
"N-No, we thought it might add to the brutality…"
"I don't need! That kind of thing!!"
Leos gave the skeleton a sharp rebuke. The classroom went completely quiet. Unexpectedly…
"I-I-Instructor…"
A choppy voice echoed through the room. Duma, the former immortal fleet commander, was timidly raising her hand.
"W-What, Duma?"
In front of a former commander, Leos responded with a somewhat nervous look on his face. The demons whispered to each other.
"Lady Duma is willingly answering…?"
"She may have fallen in rank, but she's still a former commander. She won't get killed unless she spurts the worst possible answer, right?"
The demons and Leos waited with bated breath for Duma to speak. Duma opened her puppet-shaped mouth.
"I-I… d-don't want to kill… a-any more humans…"
After a moment of silence, the demons began to rustle wildly.
"I-Idiot!! No matter what you think, that answer is no good!"
"Even if it is Lady Duma, she will get killed!"
The demons all looked at Leos at the same time. Leos seemed to be shaking with rage.
However…
"CORRECT!!"
Leos flashed a smile like a charming cat. Then he walked up to Duma and clasped her puppet doll's hand tightly in both of his own.
"As expected of the former Immortal Fleet's Commander! That's an excellent answer! Or perhaps I should say, please go back to being a commander! I'll tell the top brass personally!"
"N-No, I-I don't particularly care about that. M-More importantly…"
Duma approached the frightened mother and daughter pair with bobbling steps.
"I-In Leirune, there is a place called S-Suzukiland. H-Humans live there, as equals with demons. I-I'll take you there by ship."
The mother and daughter pair, with stunned expressions on their faces, began to hug each other and cry when they realized they had been saved.
At this sight, Leos nodded broadly in satisfaction.
"All right! That concludes today's anatomy and dissection class!"
Leos and Duma left the classroom with smiles on their faces, accompanied by the human mother and child.
"T-There was no dissection, on a dissection class…!?"
The skeleton muttered in shock, not understanding at all what had just happened.
